Random questions was/is my all time favorite ice breaker. It gives everyone a chance to talk and with the right people, you can meaningful or chaotic conversations. It's worth a try lol
If you are new here... Hi! My name is Karima and I'm trying to figure my sh*t out 😁

I have disciplined myself around on Aristotelian Ethics which has helped me in the past become a better person at work and at home and to have a better outlook on everyday life.

PLEASE, you, and EVERYONE, if you haven't already, embrace the One True Only God YHWH Jehovah, Only One Jesus Christ His Only Begotten Son and Lord and Savior of our souls and the Only One Holy Spirit. God is good. God is love. Jesus is Lord. Jesus IS coming. Your soul depends on it! I have seen God act in my life. He saved my soul, changed my heart, changed my mind, helped people through me, took care of people in my life, people I hurt before I found God. God is the only reason I was able to reconcile with my dad before he died. God worked through Jesus Christ to save our souls. Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins. Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and that God raised Him from the dead and you will be saved. Be baptized in The Holy Spirit, and if He wills, water as well. Repent of your sins, accept God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit into your heart, that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ, that all who believe on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father Jehovah God but through Him. Not long after I got saved I prayed to God for help understanding the Holy Bible, and that same day someone knocked on my door asking me if I wanted to understand the Bible. The Holy Bible says, "love thy enemy", "turn the other cheek", "If your enemy is hungry, feed him", "if he is thirsty, give him a drink", "pray for those who persecute you", "do not repay evil for evil". LORD willing, all humans may commit sin of almost every kind (gay, straight), and that's wrong, and all humans sin, as God tells us through the The Holy Bible, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." The Holy Bible also says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

That's such a complex question to answer. Obviously there are many, many things that make you, "you". But I think usually the more people think and introspect, there more they will start to realize that the sort of "deeper you" is not really associated with your appearance, career or even your actions to some degree. Fundamentally, what makes you, "you" is your thoughts, feelings, intuitions and beliefs. Essentially the internal as opposed to the external. I think to a large degree because those are the things that make you the most unique, but also when you think deeply enough about it, those are the things about you that "you" identify with the most. Also as a sidenote, I think a lot of the time we don't act in accordance with our true selves, instead we put on a front, or a mask, that we believe others will appreciate more than our "real" selves (this is also why I said before that I don't belive people really ARE their actions, a lot of the times those actions are an act and not a genuine expression of what goes on on the inside). I think most people can relate to doing this. For example, from an early age we are conditioned to believe we shouldn't expose our emotions in public, especially not in certain settings, so we hide our emotions (and thus our real selves, in that moment). This also goes for a lot of thoughts and beliefs. If we think or belive something that "society" doesn't view as permissable, we pretend we don't have that thought or belief. I also think this is particularly toxic part of our culture and I think it lies at the root of a lot of people's mental health issues. We are essentially taught that what we really feel and think on the inside is wrong and not permissable to show to the outside world, so instead we pretend to be something we're not and the more we do it the more it eats away at our core.

*these days, I'm pretty much defined by my constant quest to not be bored to death 💀 always looking to entertain myself or others, debate and discuss ideas with everyone, make content that gets people thinking and talking....its literally who I am now....boredom is my mortal enemy and I'm defined by it.*

Habits are temporary doings, not beings. They change throughout your life, yet you have a feeling of continuity from birth until now. If you truly "were your habits", then someone else would start piloting your body, the moment you changed the habits. But this is not how it works. Habits are relatively superficial doings, and you can exchange them and be separated from them without much problem. But the one thing that is constant in life, is the feeling/experience of "I am" -consciousness itself. Which is who you are. You are, that you are. Notice that typically when someone says "He has changed a lot since last I saw him", then what they are referring to is most often the things he does. Not what he is at all. Its a common misunderstanding for humans, to think that they are the things they do. This misconception is so common that its built into most languages: "I am a doctor, wife, nervous person, republican etc.". All these things have to do with doings, and they change over the course of one`s life. They are relatively superficial. The reason the western world in general is so consumerist, is because people regularly identify with the objects they own, and derive their sense of value from them. "I am a Ferrari owner, I wear designer clothes from Milan". People make the mistake of thinking that they are the things they do, own and associate with (This includes thought-patterns, feelings, beliefs etc. They are all temporary doings). Its insanity, and common.

When "I" said to some people "I do not exist" - they did not understood me. Because "I" is just a concept, just a word, the idea - and the idea is not real me.

Re: 'You are your habits', and 'How your friends view you, versus how you view yourself.' There is much truth to these ideas. They can apply in may true ways. I think they can apply to everyone in many ways. But, from own experiences, they easily can fail to apply in many ways as well. Here I explain a little of my own experiences in that regard: Both a tree and a mountain answer to 'tall'. But one is definitely not the other. It's like common features of two very different people. Say, they may each have ears. But they may look 'nothing like' each other. Or, they may be VERY different on the INSIDE, regardless if they look the same or different on the outside. In my case, my 'habits' were grossly mistaken by those who knew me only on the outside. In fact, they mistook my habits in ways that served only their own pushy, essentially domineering purposes. I was a tree, and they mistook me for a mountain. In fact, they happened to hate trees, and to love mountains. To me, they were like rabid, pushy, King Kong sized gorillas. No matter what you may say to them in your own defense, they just crush you anyway. And, if you do say anything in your own defense, they will just more deeply crush you. So you quickly learn not to say anything that might displease them. Further, you quickly learn to do as much as you are able to keep them pleased with you. . In my later teens, I once found myself flying an airplane for the first time, but never having intended to: Before I knew what was going on, we were in the air, with the huge engine cowling of the little plane blocking the view of everything but the sky up into which the plane was pointed. The 'Self-Impromptu' instructor eventually took us back toward the ground. As we turned to face down toward the runway, he said, 'I'll have you land it next.'What? Why does he even think I would want to? I told him, “No way”, etc.. I assumed 'No' means 'No'. Long story short, he would not accept my refusal. So, in the end, the unintended joke was on him: First, I was GOING TO THE GROUND. I thought that was the whole point. Second, we almost got to the condition in which the wings are GOING TO begin to rip off: I was taking it down that steeply, and he was pulling up so hard to avoid a very injurious slamming of us into the runway. Third, there I was, with not the slightest idea that we were in any kind of danger. The thing is MADE of METAL. Fourth, he, was alternately glancing at me and at the approaching ground, looking VERY ...Worried. Fifth, I just sat there as calm as can be imagined, even failing, at the time, to quite detect his expression of fear. Sixth, he surely thought I was SUPER competent in regard to understanding airframes and such. . That sixth factor is the bigger joke in all this. That's because that's when---unknown to me at the time, since NO ONE tells ME what they think of me in these things---some of the biggest first parts of my 'stellar' repute got made. And I had NO idea I had ANY repute of ANY kind, much less such an absurdly mistaken 'stellar' kind. Soon, that 'stellar' repute got used to justify just about anything anyone ever wanted from me. In my experiencing of it, my life had, suddenly and increasingly, become like a really BAD version of the movie, Rundown(starring Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Walken, and Ewen Bremner). In my case, I was a bit like the character played by Dwayne Johnson. He can't get out from under his boss soon enough. But, he 'has the moves', as Scott's character says. I have many genuine 'moves'. But MOST of the 'moves 'I'm reputed for are just really gross misunderstandings. So the snowball just kept rolling, and eventually completely crushed me. I ever saw it coming only far too late. I had been thinking that people were planning on actually helping ME in MY life once I had pleased THEM for long enough. I eventually began to realize, just barely, that that was NEVER the plan. I DEEPLY relate to the intro song to the Smallville series, but mainly in a rather twisted way. If I'm Superman, then the whole 'The Man'-directed world is kryptonite and doesn't even know it. If it at all knows it, it does not care. Rabid, pushy, King Kong sized gorillas. Who hate trees BECAUSE they are so selfishly fixated on their 'love' of mountains.

I believe the opposite ;) I don't believe that we are our habits. The question is when are we really alive? When are we really living our lives? I think it's when we are present in the moment. When we go on autopilot, going through the day on our habits, we are in a sense in a zombie state. We are alive when we use our prefrontal cortex to exercise our willpower and consciously change direction, outside of the comfort zone/habits. I am alive, when I feel apathy, I'm depressed, nothing makes sense... but I force myself to go workout anyway, because I consciously think about reasons why it's important to me. That's "me". Then also I think people aspirations and goals are more telling about who they are, than their history. Somebody finished university? Okay? But what's his aspiration to do with it? Or maybe there's none? This reveals more about a person. Also in a twisted way, often our (failed) aspirations, that can never be achieved, are in fact our personality. I could give two examples. Who would you trust more? A hardened criminal, that is ashamed of it and want's to put it behind him or a guy that lives "average Joe's life" but always was inspired by "being gangster" and having luxury life. Who would you trust more, a man that had many women in his life and settled down or unpopular guy that's in a long term relationship, but always dreamed about sex with many women. And then the opportunity comes, to get some easy money or get some easy women...

For the most part, I agree. I think I just worded it incorrectly. I don't mean habit like getting up at 4am, having a healthy diet, or whatever else because you are in control of that. I mean more like the unique habits/traits you have. The habits that you have that make someone else think about you randomly. The ones that are unique to you. Like how you keep pushing yourself, the way you like your coffee, and yes the things that brought you to your dreams (failed or not). The little ones :) I love the question "are you living or existing?" too. I'll talk about that next time 😁

@@AlsoknownasBK I think these days we have problem because of that. People that justify their actions based on who they are can be well only when they have correct knowledge about the world and everything that surrounds them. Any snack and sweets that is based on sugar (imo sugar is a stimulant drug just like any "speed" drug but somehow nobody gives a fuck about that) which can turn people into addicts. Kids these days are acting like drug addicts that demand sugar and it is terrifying. We are becoming "b*tches" to our brains. Brain likes sugar A LOT and it doesn't give a damn about long term side effects. It makes you feel the need of sugar when you actually don't need it at all and that is an addiction. I know people that treat themselves with this garbage and they justify that with their hard day at work... which is everyday.... You need to be aware about the outcome of your decisions and actions (that will be visible mostly long term/ after years). That way you will not become someone you don't want to. watch this to understand how your brain works (how it got programmed and with what info/data/emotions/experiences). search for: You have no free will at all | Stanford professor Robert Sapolsky Based on that lecture, the concept of "Being yourself" doesn't really make any sense. You can't never be "You" and be 100% sure that it is true "You" At most you can only be "You, but programmed by the system"
