WHAT! MICROTECH/RIKE SOCOM BRAVO -FULL REVIEW AND TESTING. I do my very best at only paying attention to the knife and not the drama that surrounds it. Did Rike do the Socom Bravo justice? I hope the issue I had when using the knife isn't common.

I only have the OG but I love it. The ergos and cutting performance surprised me for it being a tank. The late detent when closing doesn’t bother me much because the weight of the blade kinda over powers it and it kinda acts as a safety mechanism that keeps you from loping your fingers off lol! My only gripe is the clip… I’m not a fan of tip down and it’s a pain getting into pocket. The thumb stud always catches on my pants and keeps me from getting it all the way down in my pocket one handed which is really annoying. Besides that I think it’s amazing and maybe one of the greatest designs of all times as far as badass hard use knives go.

The Bravo is a superb knife, not quite the hard hitter that the Elite is but nicer in other ways. But that is ok.. it isn't an Elite replacement but more a follow up to the OG Socom Delta. Thank you for putting it through its paces, and for the (as always) honest and thoughtful review.

Great review. The pocket clip does come off on mine. It comes off better if you wiggle it slowly off. It does have a milled shelf that interfaces with the Ti and carbon. You do have to have the clip off to disassemble so worth taking the time to slowly remove. Yours may have a closer interference fit but it also may be a small bit of gunk or milling edges that's holding yours in. Could probably use some PB blaster to loosen or help with removal.

Got my bravo clip point today and it’s beautiful! my only gripe is the pocket clip doesn’t have enough ramp making it difficult to take in and out of the pocket, (at least in dickies and basketball shorts so far. Haven’t tried jeans yet), or maybe it just has too much tension not sure yet but at least its tip up unlike my socom elite. Both knives are different enough to own both despite the similar Silhouettes imo.

I love your reviews, Stassa, the most thorough in the business in my estimation. The only thing I want to point out is that it’s kind of weird that the moment you’re starting to describe the design in detail, you switch the view towards the testing and cutting. So you say “you’ve got this nice chamfering around this area”, but we see you cutting rope 😅 Noticed that a couple of times, not sure if it’s systematic, but it seems to be. Maybe put your hands with the knife in a smaller overlay in the corner or something? I really like the way you describe the details and would really like to see what you’re pointing at! Cheers!

After collecting knives for quite awhile, pretty knives almost always go into the safe queen category with some faults that prevent them from real use. Rike isn’t a good choice for real use knives as an OEM. They are best for making elaborate pretty knives. Would have opted for Reate.

I love the idea of the knife, the craftmen ship is amazing, and I'm sure the frame lock is powerful. I just can't stand the design of the handle besides the slide in for the thumb stud. If the blade stop was a little bigger or it lay against the back spacer it would prevent the rubbing. It would be the fix to that issue . You need to update us on what microtech says , because watching the microtech torture test they had no issues. That needs to be fixed, if it’s just a issue of the blade needing to be ground down so slightly to have no contact. Very do to know , and did you do the test before you took the knife apart?

Microtech is like one of the only companies whose billboarding doesn’t bother me. I don’t know why, just I guess I’m used to it and it kinda looks cool on the Tanto to me. I know people would rather have the US version but it’s never available, at least with this model it’s high quality, and really well done as you stated. It’s a great job. I wish it was still a titanium liner version though. Maybe some versions other than just gray/carbon fiber. Even just Titanium scales would make it closer looking with the milling like the Elite.

Rike is a high end brand though. Not everything overseas is trash. Spyderco tai chung made blades are typically superior and have better fit and finish than their golden Colorado models. China is known for cheap stuff you find in dollar stores or the vendors in the street in NYC. But that doesn’t define them. Rike makes great knives. Aesthetically they’re not my style but they’re made well and have great quality control

I'm made of questions, right now. My particular example is from April of 2023, and I've owned it since probably late that same April. The only issue I've had was a warranty one that Microtech took care off. I do agree that the clip has a lot of tension, and they probably should have lifted their foot off the gas a little on it... but the clip is what made me buy the Bravo over the Elite, and I have no regrets. Tip down is a total turn-off for me, and until Microtech corrects that in their other SOCOM models, it's the Bravo all day for me. PS, strange to see that your backspacer moved that way. I agree that a pin should exist at the shoulder there, but mine has never done that to me, and I've thumped on it.

I just got the black DLC signature series version and I'm disappointed. Two glaring reasons... 1, the lockbar is rather sharp, making it not so fidget friendly. I'm a knife junkie who collects knives not for the tool aspect, but for the craftsmanship, action, fidgetability, and feeling in hand. 2... the detent is very weak, to the point of being able to shake it open easily with the flick of the wrist. I took it apart and tuned it myself but the problem remains. It's a beautiful knife but it's going back to bladehq. I considered your review before purchase but your review was the only one I could find on RU-vid that was negative at all, so I had to find out for myself.

Wow this actually isn't a frame lock, as you see at 12:15 the inner part that is locking is separate from the frame which would make it stronger, almost a frame and a liner ALMOST. This would be a bolster lock.

CCP aside, I think I'm done with MT. I've had such a bad experience with my utx85 with 2 broken springs and now it came back from warranty the second time and the action is terrible and it still misfires within 20 fires so I just can't depend on it. I've gotten to the point where everytime I fire it I check the switch to feel if it actually locked out. It's a fun knife but my Sebenzas actually lock out every time so I don't carry the utx85 anymore.

It's now year-end 2022. Found a SOCOM Bravo Clip Point, partially serrated at Knife Center and grabbed it the last day of 2022. Yes, it's Chinese made but it's a US design. TBO, I don't think Microtech has the equipment or the skills at this point without spending a shit-ton of money on equipment and poaching experienced personnel to run it. Not something they were ready to bet the company on given market conditions at the time. Considering this deal was probably started during the C19 shitshow, it's amazing the deal bore fruit at all. I won't fault Microtech at this point - unless they offshore production of existing products. Then they'll be no different than WE, Reate and others.

@@appl35au53 there are a lot of reasons that is the case, it would become too political though on this forum, which I don’t wanna start lol. I absolutely hate the Microtech Socom Bravo made by Ruike. Not because it was Chinese manufactured, but because the Socom Bravo has essentially every element stripped of it that made the Microtech Socom Elite one of the all-time greatest hard use EDC knives ever👍 The problem is that the Microtech Socom Bravo is right side tip up with a 3D milled pocket clip, a frame lock and made with carbon fiber. The issues are that the Microtech Socom Bravo is right side tip up, so when you pull it from your pants pocket you then have to itsy bitsy spider your hand up the knife to reach it's thumb studs to open the blade. Unlike the Microtech Socom Elite which is right side tip down, so when you pull the Socom Elite from your pocket your finger is directly on the thumb stud making it easy and quick to open the blade without have to re-adjusted your hand. The Socom Elite also has a good spring clip which is much easier to clip onto and unclip from your pants pockets than the stiff 3D milled clip of the Microtech Socom Bravo. The Microtech socom Elite is also a liner lock which is easier and safe to use than a frame lock. There's an issue with putting to much pressure on the frame lock bar of the Microtech Socom Bravo therefore causing the blade to not properly deploy. Then there's the fact that the Microtech Socom Bravo is made with carbon fiber, which is a material that won't stand the test of time. Carbon fiber starts to get ratty and develop voids over time. The habdle of the Microtech Socom Elite is made of solid aluminum which can get scratched/dented but is proven to stand up to the test of time and serious hard use👍
@hityoutwo
@hityoutwo 2 года назад
I have to agree about the tip down carry. I've always found it easier to deploy that way and don't understand the stigma certain people have over it
@ThomasConnolly
@ThomasConnolly 2 года назад
@@hityoutwo Well said👍 Sal Glesser who created Spyderco and invented the pocket clip as well as the first mechanism built into a blade for one handed opening(Spydie hole), set up his knives originally as right side tip down. For example the iconic Spyderco Police knife, it is set up right side tip down intentionally so when you draw it from your pants pocket your finger is on the spydie hole so you can quickly and easily open the blade.
@msharmall7298
@msharmall7298 2 года назад
I can see your point about everything except the liner lock... I would never choose a liner lock over a frame lock for "hard use" and most wouldn't either.
@ThomasConnolly
@ThomasConnolly 2 года назад
@@msharmall7298 I respectfully disagree. A really well made liner lock is actually stronger and easier to use than a frame lock. I don't like frame locks because part of their strength is derived from your hand gripping the knife. I don't want the strength of locking mechanism of my knife to depend on my hand. Also frame locks can be way to sensitive, if you put to much pressure on the frame lock bar it can prevent the blade from properly opening. The Microtech Socom Elite with it's liner lock has been proven for almost 30 years to be one of, if not the best hard use EDC knife ever👍
@ThomasConnolly
@ThomasConnolly 2 года назад
@@msharmall7298 The reason people hate liner locks is because as kids your first knife was most likely a junky $1.00-$5.00 liner lock knife from a flea market or BudK. So obviously that junky liner lock knife has bad lock up. But a highe quality well made liner lock knife like the Microtech Socom Elite is an extremely good strong knife👍
