Absolutely! Mammy always used to say the 90s were copying or " origional was better" got my love for music from her. We used to have the best time watching the rundowns over the years on tv miss her x
I think about this all the time. Millenial’s era was great because there was a respect for the previous legends that paved the way. So much homage was paid. Even the songs that weren’t sampling still carried the spirit of the past forward in some way.
All ya have to do is have a few years on the planet guys, however the trick is to enjoy music the whole time. Go back to 80's and 90's movies yall. Watch and listen, the most sampled sound on the planet is James Brown. Not what you would think either. It was his screem! Its in most of the movies from this erra. Most rap from then was either self created using roland, yamaha, and casio gear. Alesis as well. That being said. The rest of tne music was all recreations of Parliment Funkidelic, James Brown, and some other old Motown jams. Remember, most of these guys had no talent, zero musical talent for instruments. Thus enters the d.j.. for yall young'ns, D = disc (record) J = jockie (as in the guy that hauls around plays the music) Records, d.j.'s used other artists songs to create their own. These old songs were all on record, so they were used. Now songs are digitaly copied and some times recreated. But its all a rerun for the most part. Having been a real D.J. as well as making music, half the reason songs are reworked is because 1. It was a good jam. 2. Recognition by the listener. 3. All thats left is to keep the song catchy or whimsy. Instant hit. Im not trying to knock artists efforts, ive liked and found some remakes and stolen loops to be equally enjoyable.
Uhmm "boomers didn't listen to this era of music. What you want to say is gen x'ers. Boomers were watching Lawrence Welk on TV and watching the Sunday televised church service of Dr. Robert Schuller. They're also responsible for treating Elvis Presley like he was some kind of deviant for feeling his music like he did. Boomers are also responsible for this country's stagnation. We would be far more progressed if they never existed! I personally can't wait until the last one is dead and buried! Our great experiment in Democracy could be so much more than it is if they didn't meddle in it. And to be clear that generation got everything handed to them! They did the best drugs, had worry free sex without regard of disease capable of killing them; then they got old; found themselves "religion" and outlawed what they enjoyed growing up! Tom Brokaw considers them "The greatest generation;" but that's him - not me! They can kiss both sides of my ass!
I loved getting a new album, searching the credits, and seeing credit given to another artist or "sampled from". Oh my, I loved the rabbit hole! Music connects us all to something deeper.
Ikr… making me realise though that I have some pretty era mashup kinda moves, maybe it’s because I’m a millennial with a boomer parent and a silent gen parent 😅
I'm 40 now I hear both the sample and original. Yes, this is very true I remember when I played my CDs in the mid 90s my dad would say "she/he sampled such and such".
'82 (so I guess I'm a "Xennial"? 🤷🏼♀️) with Boomer parents, early-Gen X step siblings, a late-Millennial half-brother and 4 early-Gen Z kids, not to mention my mother's Silent Gen parents were super active in my life. My music taste and knowledge is EXTENSIVE!
@@Stitching_CrapYup, I'm a Gen X'er, my youngest brother was born the same year as you, my parents were Boomers, my grandparents were Silent Generation...I listen to everything! 🖤
I SO relate to this. I have a 15 y/o and he will hear a beat and swear it’s from so and so. then I have to school him on who they sampled the beat from. Needless to say, he has quite a musical repertoire.
YES!!! My daughter is 17 now and she's asking me if I know this song. I answer like, "No, but I know the original song it comes from." I'm so happy she has the love of music 🎶 in her heart!
The rest of the album... oh... the looks on the faces... I mean that song was lit on the dance floor. Then someone went to play the next cut.. then the next then.... ya... no... we're good :)
Yep. I remember asking my older sister what did riding the white horse meant and she refused to tell me. All these years later now I know why she didn't tell me what that meant 😂😂😂😂
Millennial, but my family but my family played a lot of older music from the 20s through the end of the 80s growing up. Though there was a bias towards Jazz, Motown, R&B and the like. I didn't hear Journey until college and Sweet Caroline freaked me out the first time it came up in a bar. All good days. There is less music sharing in my life these days . :(
You are a mix of Lucille Ball, Carol Burnette, plus divas and funksters. If TV were still a thing you would have a show. Thank you for the entertainment!
That is like the ultimate compliment to me. I've loved both of those legends since I was a child!! I remember being 12 years old at Disney World (or Universal Studios 🤔) having a fit to go to the I Love Lucy museum.
I need friends like you that know many different types of music regardless of the genre lol. Music is a huge part of my life and I like all kinds. I’m 52 and my mother was like this and so it my 32 year old daughter. Let’s keep raising kids to appreciate all types of music.
@@MsAubrey I DIG this! Raised my kids on some wax cylinders and platters as well. My oldest would sing: "Nellie The Nudist Queen" to the platter owned by my grandparents, with an adapted Singer sewing machine needle we had to resort-to during a power-outtage. GREAT memories.
Generation X. Most of the music that millenials claim actually belong to Gen Xers; especially since millenials were just toddlers and small children when those songs were made by Gen Xers.
Ok, so I'm at the end of the millennials spectrum ('96) and my grandpa was a boomer. I remember he let me have the radio once and I played the What's going on cover by A Perfect Circle. He turned to me and was like, "girl, do you even know the original?" Of course, me being like 15 I was like, "uh no", I give him the aux and he plays the original by Marvin Gaye and I was mind blown
Even I knew the MG version very young! I never heard the PC cover until today, it’s a cover but it’s a completely different song, It’s not a bad version at all. But if I heard this so young I prob would have never realized it was a cover. It’s a decent cover, I think they made it their own. Best
@@PaperParade I think I believed that and felt that way when I graduated from HS in '96. I often still feel that way as a member of Gen X, the least parented generation.
Gurl!! You crack me up! I love your humor, it's Authentic. I don't know how you come up with these ideas for these 'shorts' but I'm laughing more & more with each one you put out! You're funny as SH__!!. You're Kool 🎶 Hope you're MOTHER'S DAY was nice☘️
It's so true! When my daughter first learned that most of what she was listening to had already been done and it was just pretty much remixed...it blew her flipping mind!😂😂
Gen x and gen y are a lot closer than people think tbh. I share so much media and tech with my mom, vs how different boomer and gen z culture to both x and y
Gen x here and pretty sure I'd be the one singing Coolio gangstas paradise. Being of a similar age as this lady I was in high school when it came out. I did not know anyone who listened to Stevie Wonder at 17 in the 90s. That was people at least 10 years older than us. I have a millennial son and he listened to Panic at the Disco and Paramore.
She's not wrong. All the delicious-sounding beats are from a past era, my era. You Boss Lady, know your music and did your Research. We all love your videos of you having fun. Thanks for making me smile, I appreciate you. MountainAngel formally Angel from The Bay Area, CA
I was an '80s teen and was absolutely shocked when my mother casually started singing along to "Route 66" by Depeche Mode. Some things just keep going around.
@@CC3193 I was born in 79, so I became a teen in the 90s. Back then, the Gen X cutoff was 77. i wasn't ever considered a Millennial as far as I know. I think they bumped up Gen X to 80 and called anything after that Millennials at some point. Now they say Gen X goes to 83. They're just messing with us stragglers. We didn't grow up with the label, but now they're slapping it on us after we missed out on the years when it was cool, and we can't relate to Gen Xers hitting 60.
@@user-xd6nc6rg7be we are considered either GenX or Xennials. I was born in January 79. I’ve never seen GenX cutoff at 77… it’s always been at least 1980/81.
