My take on all of this if you show your hand too early then your are a sitting duck for another program to come in and outbid you. Sure it makes your recruiting class look real good on paper but players in papers and players in your uniform are two totally different things. These kids who are giving verbal commitments or letters of intent while still underclassmen in HS now are starting to sit out their Sr. year not wanting to get hurt and with an attitude. Stop making these kids(children) elites before they even pad up at the next level.

When someone basically says “you just got to get this guy, you can’t let him get away! “, or something like that, it strongly implies that to lose him inherently means something was either done or not done to that effect. Now, if it’s simply about money, then, yeah, break the bank and pay whatever you have to in order to get the guy. But otherwise, I find it to be an over-the-top accusation that Kirby in this case should have some kind of power over the recruit to absolutely prevent him from choosing another program. I think the man has shown that he knows how to recruit better than anyone, but he’s not gonna get every single elite athlete that he wants. But that’s exactly what it sounds like when folks hyperbolically say he absolutely should be able to do that, and therefore when an elite player chooses another program it’s abject failure on somebody’s part. Maybe just maybe some of these kids wanna play somewhere other than UGA. Why does that have to be so hard to understand and accept?
