Here are the links to my Human lore videos, in case you'd like to dig way back into that related WoW history as well! Another excellent video- Hard to talk about the Forsaken without talking about Sylvanas at length. The Forsaken heritage armor quest shows some more of the new council, and if you are a Sylvanas loyalist from the BFA quests, you get a special message from Sylvanas while she serves her sentence in superhell. Basically, she confirms that the Forsaken do and always will matter to her. One quick correction- Daelyn Proudmoore is Jaina's younger brother, not her father.
Thank you so much, and as always I'm so glad you enjoyed! It really is impossible to talk about the Forsaken without Sylvanas, she's so inextricably linked to everything they are and their entire purpose. I really need to read up on the heritage armour quest even if I don't get around to playing it - her character arc has taken some bizarre turns over the last few years, but it's so good to know that she still has some care in her heart for them. And you're totally right - I added a quick text correction at that part, but some intense facepalming was happening when I came back around to editing and realised the Daelin mistake :D
Which is wrong. Because Sylvanas was not whole during that entire time. So, when she says we were arrows in a quiver, it WAS true. Only after her good side is returned to her, is when she regrets things.
@@coryhafer7285 More than "good" side i would say "past self" side. But yeah. She has a realization when she is made to come to herself and reflect on what she's chosen since being sworded by Arthas.
I really enjoyed seeing the whole timeline of the Forsaken right up to date! I think the history of this faction is one of the best in Warcraft for sure. Lilian Voss is such a great character and I like how she plays a part all across Azeroth and you get to see her character grow, much like Sylvanas. It's a shame most of us have to wilfully ignore the character development presented in Shadowlands, but looking forward to watch the future might bring!
I'm so glad you enjoyed! The Forsaken are fascinating, and honestly, I think Lilian deserves her own video down the line. SHe's really had a very natural path of character growth, which I love to see. Shadowlands was a bit of a mess, but fingers crossed that the lore will pull itself together over the next few expansions.
Technically humanity did give the Forsaken several chances, first was Garithos surprisingly then in Vanilla a few defect and remain by the Dalaran bubble and are assasinated by the Forsaken under Varimathras orders. Third was in Wotlk when Putress did Wrathgate and in the Sylvanas Book we find out that approved the Blight and even wasn't initially against using it on everyone if it killed the Lich King, but she did not plan for Varimathras betraying her and for the Forsaken secrets within Undercity to be discovered by the Alliance and the Horde forces. Basically causing the Horde to send the Kor'kron to oversee their actions because the Alliance was absolutely furious that living humans and dwarves were being used as living experiments... Also the apothecaries left all the evidence they needed to condemn them and that's why Varian despised them. Then in Shadows Rising they were given one last chance at the Arathi Highlands were the living humans of Lordaeron and the undead were allowed to meet and greet then well you described what happened. Then BFA happened.... Yeah... the genocide of the Night Elves and Battle for Lordaeron and Stromgarde left a bitter taste for the living, but even so, they were willing to let the undead keep Lordaeron City and Tirisfal which was a huge compromise by the Alliance and they took Southern Lordaeron aka Southshore, Gilneas and part of Silverpine. Effectively returning the status quo of Vanilla, but with the living rebuilding and repopulating all over Lordaeron.
Can you give a source for the alliance taking back Southshore? I know the Gilneans finally returned and Stromgarde is back to being a thing again but I haven't heard about the Alliance taking back anything in Hillsbrad or Silverpine?
I wouldn't really count Garithos as a chance because he made it clear he wanted to use them to retake the city and then he'd be done with them and I don't think anyone is stupid enough to think he wouldn't try to wipe them out the second he got the chance. Killing him was the smart thing to do.
@@charticevangel7508 The fact that he worked with them at all and was true to his word. Is enough to forever leave in doubt what he would of done had he had the ability to do so. We don't know and can't ever know. Regardless he did give the Forsaken a chance. He did honor his word. He was betrayed and more importantly his soldiers were. The survivors returned to the living in Stormwind and other human holdouts and told them what the Forsaken did... That was Sylvanas first mistake. Killing Garithos was wrong, but if you are to kill him. Inform the living and the survivors that the undead she lead have no intention of attacking them and will allow them to live wherever they see fit. By showing the benefit of the doubt and allowing the living to decide whether this "free" undead are truly different than the Scourge was denied to them by her actions at the start and the narrative has played out in sour fashion since. The Forsaken feel forsaken because of what Sylvanas did not what the living did in rejecting them at the get-go. She gave the living no alternative because she manipulated them or outright was too reckless to consider the consequences of her actions.
@@jalicea1650 He honored his word as much as it helped him, but they shouldn't have felt indebted to him for it, he was getting something out of it too. And considering how he treated allies like the High Elves in the past, there was no chance he wasn't turning against them the second they were no longer useful. I just can't see any world where her killing Garithos wasn't the right move and where it also didn't turn the humans against her. Like, they tried to talk to the humans after and were rejected. I can't imagine saying "we aren't gonna harm you" would have made the others suddenly trust them. There really wasn't anyway to do that.
@@charticevangel7508 I think you're mistaking her actions and retroactively justifying them to fit your narrative. Was killing him the right action? Debatable. He honored his word and allowed the free undead to leave in peace. That was his promise and his guarantee and the living humans of Lordaeron honored their word as dictated by their surviving leader. This is important. You can't retroactively ignore this fact. He gave his word and honored it. More so, his followers honored the agreement. Who struck first? The living or the undead. In this case, Sylvanas did by killing Garithos and then attacking the unsuspecting survivors. That alone forced the living to see the Forsaken as untrustworthy. The undead should have at least condition the survivors and worked very carefully to avoid such a situation. The living gave them the benefit of the doubt and they betrayed them on the very first moment of independence from the Scourge... That is why the Forsaken are well Forsaken.
My OG Forsaken character was die hard for the dark lady. As a kid I had a massive crush on Sylvanas. But by BFA she reminded me of my ex girlfriend lol.
Oh wow, you went through the whole rollercoaster of emotion with Sylvanas! So many people had a crush on her back in the day, and then BFA happened. Let's hope she'll get some better writing over the next few expansions 😬
Basically this. It's been quite a few expansions since we had some decent character development for her, and we can only hope that the next few will turn her around and make her awesome again. Maybe in Midnight, since that seems like it's gonna be elf-centric. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you, you have a lovely voice to listen to. I've always been a Sylvanas fan; I don't feel her arc was particularly well written. To be honest I'd be happy if Blizz suddenly announced; "The end of Legion, BfA and SL were all a dream! Things are back to normal now!" The need for some writers to turn strong female characters into evil-without-reason psychotics is too prevalent (see Daenerys.) It's frustrating. Anyway. One can only hope for change. It's looking as though Sylvanas's sister, Alleria, might also fall to the 'Good female lead character, what do we do with her now? Oh yes... EVIL' trope! Hopefully not!
Thank you so much for watching as well, and for the kind words - I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Sylvanas is such an interesting subject, and I definitely think it's worth her own video to try and iron at least some of her character arc out. Her origins and motivations (to begin with) were fascinating, and then after Legion it all just went down the drain a bit. Why she needed to turn her back on the Forsaken and taking this questionable road is beyond me, confusing and frustrating for sure. Fingers crossed for a change, we'll see what the next few expansions bring. I do worry about Alleria though, especially after playing through the 10.2.7 questline. The way she treads the line between light and dark is also really interesting, I hope beyond hope that they don't push her over into the dark because they don't know what to do with her. Someone protect Vereesa!
A short mention near the end at least! Maybe a good idea, I feel like Calia and the whole idea of 'light' undead need their own whole video to explain. Thanks for watching!
@@TenMinuteWorlds Sometimes you just need a nice lore recap to a game you've been playing for 20 years, you know? P.S.- I think the tauren are rad as well. Like, they're simply just a kind people.
