Nylander is an amazing player but he only skates one way. That is frustrating. In over time last night he did a double shift. When Boston scored the winning goal he as just floating at the blue line Hands to his side one hand of stick and coasted to the net. He needs to play both ways and he'd be MVP for the league. He does score but his life time + - is a +1 which means teams score as much at Toronto does when he is on the ice. sorry for coming down on him. I just wish he'd put some fire on his skates coming back.

The thing is not only did they lose...they did it in the most painful way the could have. I had already came to terms with them being out in 5 but no they need to string you along till game 7 so you have hope again then Woll just had to get hurt on a nothing play going for a meaningless save. And they didn't even put up a fight in OT it was over in a minute. God forbid the leafs hold a lead for longer than 1.5 minutes either. The amount of times Keefe puts on line 4 after a goal for them to promptly be scored on the very next shift was insane.
Shanahan was they guy that pulled the trigger on the Tavares signing which is the signing that put the whole rebuild out of sync. They said they would take no shortcuts and then they did just that, they tried to accelerate the rebuild when they shouldnt have. And that has cost htem every year until now
Listen, the Leafs got beat by an average Bruins team. They are not a great team. When they couldn't even beat that average Bruins team, wtf would you expect them to do against the Panthers? They would NOT have advanced past the 2nd round if they had managed to beat the Bruins. That is an absolute fact.
I don’t think anyone ever expected to do well against the panthers. Either of these teams would/will get smoked by them. It was more about exercising demons and beating Boston in a game 7. They didn’t.
Leafs suck. They haven’t won a Stanley cup since 1967. That was 11 years before I was even born. I’d say that the Leafs should be expelled from the NHL just like Lee Ping got expelled in the cartoon Detentionaire and that Kevin Spencer got expelled from school in the cartoon Kevin Spencer.

The value in a marner trade is the cap space... a warm body on the roster is enough for me.. Nylander is the only untouchable in my eyes. Cash in on Matthews if you have the chance. Nobody is irreplaceable

I thought Marner was OK (well at least since Game 5). The problem is you are not paying a player $10.3 million to be just OK. In some form or another, Nylander and Matthews (despite injuries) showed up in key moments (Willy in GM6 and 7, Matty with the GWG in GM3 and the feed to Willie on the goal tonight). Tavares wasn't great either offensively, but I can at least credit him on his hard push to the net that led to the Knies OT winner. I honestly can't think of a single moment this series where Marner stood out in a positive way.
He created some beautiful scoring chances. If it were Matthews instead of Edmunson on the end of that perfect Marner pass, you'd be singing his praises.
Canucks fan here......Luca nailed it. You need a coach that holds the players accountable. Not some guy who's gonna try to be buddy-buddy with the players. When we hired Tocchet, I was admittedly very skeptical, but he has absolutely brought the best out of almost all of our players. He challenged the whole team before the season started to come to camp ready to go and it showed immediately with how they started the season. I feel like Berube could be that guy for Toronto.
It appears Corwin is not accepting the reality of what will happen to this team. Heads will fall in do time. Also, people with NMC get traded, it's not the craziest conversation.
Honestly it was frustrating just listening to him lol. Like the whole trading player at lowest value think is dumb af. Trading Marner, yes you won't get exact value for him because of his albatross of his contract but the cap space he frees makes up for the value lost. You spend that freed space on top a 2 defenceman or a legitimate goaltender it's absolutely worth doing.
Why would Marner even want to stay? He waives the NMC, fire Sheldon (obviously), strip Tavares and make somebody earn it. Captain of two teams and hasn’t done anything.
Keele has helped guide the Leafs to some of the best regular seasons in the team's history. The issue is with the players. No heart, no intensity, no team mentality, etc. They're just a bunch individuals getting paid a lot of money. The star players are more interested in individual achievements and don't know how to play playoff hockey.
@@AscendedXSaiyan Game 5 and 6 proved he can coach playoff hockey. It's up to the players to carry out what he's telling them and elevate their play. That means playing through injuries, being physical, and going to the hard spots to score even if it means getting hit. The Leafs had one goal from the crease area all series long. The guys the gets the most ice time also need to hit more. Rielly had 15 hits, Liljegren had 12 hits, Nylander and Marner had 6 hits each, and Domi only had 5 hits. These are the guys eating up some of the most minutes on the team and they're not making life difficult for their opponents. Surprisingly, JT and AM34 were near the team lead for hits. It seems like too many Leafs players can't make the shift from regular season hockey to playoff hockey. They only have one gear, and that's not a good sign.
I do think that there is a fine line between being out-coached and having your players just be outplayed. Keefe will be fired because coaches get fired. That's okay.

The differences in the points between those two pairs is ASTOUNDING. At least Matthews was basically dying since he got pulled by the doctors. But if McDavid is out, Draisatl goes out and scores all of the goals and assists on the the rest of the goals that he's not scoring. Marner...exists doing nothing...

From a Bruins fan, you guys need a top defenseman. Problem is acquiring one outside of the draft. Reilly is great offensively but, you need a guy who can shut the other team down and regain possession so you can feed those top guys. You need a guy like Trouba, Hedman, or Pietrangelo. Again, problem is finding one available. Maybe call up Chicago and see if they're willing to part with Seth Jones in order to get Connor Bedard a top-caliber winger? I doubt they'd be willing without a sweetner or two and you'd have to convince Marner to accept but, I think that might be your best chance.
Corwin is such a nice guy man, just seconds after the game ends in overtime he curses one time has a little meltdown and then instantly makes a video with luca, who is also a nice guy! Thats amazing if you really think about it.
People saying dont trade anyone cause you wont get value are not real fans. Have 1percent of pride - sit Marner for whole season if need be. I dont care if leafs suck for a year or the next 10 if there is any sort of long term plan and players that give 100% on the ice every shift are brought in. yup agreed. u do what u got to and if that means taking financial hits and hurting some feelings so be it. the bad will weed themselves out during this process making it easier to find the right guys. and yes if it takes 5-10 years but knowing and seeing the right guys come aboard so be it. do it right from the start, net out and do what you know puts you in a position to be dominant. not the opposite which shanny and dubas have done. i get the "making money regard less of product" however at this point with this group(MLSE) its time to buy a cup as a favor to the fans, 60 years is too long. anything short of toronto becoming a powerhouse and i mean true powerhouse(multiple cups, regular conference champs etc) is a failure. time to make toronto a place to fear playing and give them a few years of glory like the late 90s/00s wings/avs/devils, 80s oilers/islanders etc. enough is enough.
not sure if Woll is the long term answer in goal .He has huge potential but cant stay healthy .That is 2 non contact injuries this season .He will obviously be the starter next year due to his small cap hit ,but beyond that I am not sure

The players the Leafs have traded in the past have been performing really well in the playoffs and I think that’s very telling of deep rooted issues within the organization. There are definitely management decisions that need to be made.
This is my first season watching hockey AND a leafs fan, I could tell Sheldon wasn’t our guy from the first game I watched. No heart in his coaching need to bring some fire in to amp these guys up. Excited to see who’s next up. GO LEAFS GO
The one thing Cowan pointed out was if they don’t resign Mitch and use that money towards UFA’s is it an upgrade, the answer is yes. Yes Marner gets more points than Guentzel but Jake is a bigger playoff performer than Mitch is, that’s big value. If they get Jake for 7M then there’s more money for more depth maybe on D or for a goalie. They simply just have to get Mitch out, it’s just not working
Just thought Corwin should know the Canucks have 2 first round series wins(the only 2 they’ve played) since 2020. (And a play in series win on top of that) How many do the leafs have in the past 20 years?
They need to still clean house. Here's the thing, making excuses for why they lost is not a good enough reason to keep things the way they are. A Stanley Cup winning team is going to win their playoff games despite the excuses. There shouldn't be one player that, when they're playing injured or sick, changes the outcome of a game from a win to a loss. Toronto needs to do better, be better. And in order to do that, they've gotta shake up the status quo.
Shanahan needs to go. There's no if ands or buts. He fired a guy that was going to make the change they needed which was, trade one of the core 4. If they just traded Marner well they still had the window before his no trade clause enacted. They might have made it out of the first round. They need a significant upgrade defensively. Ideally you'd move Marner for someone else at Morgan Riley's level that plays a little bit more defensively

Moving Marner shouldn't be that hard, the Leafs need to not worry about "winning" the trade...its not about that, it is about freeing up the space and becoming a better balanced team.
Just having cap space for the next two seasons is more value than what Mitch brings in the playoffs. The cap is going up and one way to look at it is to suggest spend more because its going up, another is spend less so that when that player you really like is available in free agency you have the capital so sign them. You sign Mitch to an 11 mil plus contract and you hamper this teams ability to be competitive. Either trade him now for what you can get or let him walk for nothing.

What's next for the Leafs? They've made their bed and now they have to lie in it. Take it from a Wild fan, when you invest so much in a playoff window for so long, the road to recovery is long and filled with hardship. Best thing they can do now is nothing. Let the core give it one more go because you have no choice, and start holding onto your assets for the future. It really sucks, but for all of their failure when it mattered most, the best thing left when it's all said and done is to love the players who gave it their all for you anyways (but not the ones who you counted on who played for themselves and not the team, Parise and Suter).
What about going after Jay Woodcroft for head coach? He showed in Edmonton that he can coach elite players extremely well and knows how to use an offensive unit to its best capabilities. Torontos biggest problem has been scoring in the playoffs and Woodcroft had a great record as a coach with a similarly built team to Toronto just got screwed by poor goaltending for the most part.
Also look Jonathan Teow and patty Kane and hawks won there cups at age 22-27 Leafs are not getting any younger and not saying there old and won’t win but 🤷♂️ something has got to give
