@@dougtwitty9665 I'm not so sure it was all staged. Himetan has Bipolar II. That's why she retired. For someone with that illness, it doesn't take much to trigger them into a depressive episode. Even if Hirata wasn't _trying_ to be cruel and just going with the flow, Himetan clearly understood enough English that the words HURT.
That segment is a LOT harsher in light of info that came out about Hime-tan since 1 Sept. 2018. Apparently, she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder sometime in 2016 and it worsened to the point she had to quit Nogizaka. There's no way Hirata could have known. Himeka is now training to be a counselor so others won't have to go through what she did.

it was from one of Nogizaka46 Variety called NogiEigo. and the other girl was Hirata Rina, an Ex-member of AKB48. notes: Hirari (Hirata Rina) doesn't really mean that. it was one of NogiEigo segment to prove who has the best pronounce, and those two coming up for final. and in the final, they need to find each other weakness (iirc), but it turned out to be insulting each other.
Himetan was a better singer than anyone gave her credit for. She's not as good as her little sister (that's a VERY high bar), but she was too good for a supergroup like Nogizaka. Her mental health aside, she deserved better.

She was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2016 and it worsened to the point she could no longer perform, so she quit Nogizaka and is now training to become a counselor and advocate for mental health so other girls won't have to suffer like she did. it was a joke, it was obvious she wasn't trying to be hurtful. if you watched the full video you would understand she wanted her to be honest. she meant well, she probably even apologized after.
I watched the whole video of this a couple weeks back, and I don't know who to pity more: Hirata for being goaded into saying such things or Hime-tan for having to take it. By this point, Hime-tan was already fixing to leave Nogizaka46. Is Hirata really that cruel IRL? I'd hate to think so, and not just because she's American and has amazing legs.
It ACTUALLY hurt her. Hime-tan is bipolar -- that's why she left Nogizaka -- and, it appears, can be "triggered" into a depressive state as well as it just happening on its own. She revealed her diagnosis last year when she said she was training to become a counselor and an advocate for mental health. She's now at University studying.

@@48g46 Her own. Yeah, Himeka has a website. When she reappeared she told us everything -- translated by helpful fans. In 2016 she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, tried to keep going until she couldn't take it, and retired from entertainment. As of Fall 2020 she's at Waseda University training to be a mental health counselor so other girls won't go thru what she did.

I also read her last blog in beamsubs.com where she explained why she was not featured in Influencer single that should have been here last .. I'm currently following her blog , she discusses of various interesting subject (eg : she did a post where she tried to define success) .. I also recently saw that she opened a counselor website (monicatowashi.com) where we can ask for a meeting with her ! I asked by mail if speaking in English was alright , but I think they will tell me that this will have to be in Japanese...

We all do. And I _just_ read yesterday that the *_real_* reason Hime-tan retired was because she was diagnosed as bipolar. Himeka is now in training to become a counselor so other girls won't have to go through what she did.
Rina (Hillary) Harada is from Phoenix, Arizona. That's a pretty big city to bomb. Hime-tan would have to enlist the help of Queen Su, who as we all know can destroy anything through sheer willpower. Hime-tan's beam is positive energy. Suzuka's death glare levels everything and everyone in its path without mercy.
Dude, look at Hime-tan's face. It took her a minute, but once she got it, she understood just fine. That's why you see her expression drop. The phrase she _didn't_ understand came earlier in the broadcast: "You only have one dimple."
Actually, Hime-tan had already announced her retirement before this skit happened. But it's better for us to believe that Hillary Harada Rina's casual insults destroyed what was left of Himeka's fragile ego and caused her to break down and depart Nogizaka for "health reasons".
