Given the amount of times you take your hands off the bars and wave them around dictates that you definitely require a full body armour suit.

Whenever I ride a bike, I dress in cargo shorts, flipflops, tanktop and a bandanna. Yeah, I know the bandanna may be excessive, but you need some protection if you have no choice but to lay 'er down. I've trained my body to only roll and slide on the areas of my shorts that have protection (the cargo pockets), so I'm all good there. And of course I wear socks with my flipflops; I'm not stupid!

The point is the irony of talking about safety and not following basic safety procedures. His last remark stating "I should've downshifted..." points to being distracted. I had a coworker who rode a sport bike and looked like a ninja turtle with all his safety gear and armor. He laid his bike down to avoid a car that suddenly stopped in front of him and slid for about 30 feet before he hit the car. He was in the hospital for about 5 months with numerous broken bones and other injuries. But he didn't have a scratch on him.

I've had two rubber tyres under my arse most of my life for almost all transport/commuter purposes. I think I was about 6 or 7yo when I started and I'm 61 and still alive and survive. There's a few things missing here which are major when it comes to safety and survival. If you're an old bugger and heading for a rebirth on two wheels, don't get a big heavy bike. Sooner or later all bikes fall over. Off the stand, doing a u'i and a front tyre washout in loose road side gravel, wheeling it backwards to un park etc. and big heavy bikes are hard to keep upright then. Having a heart attack picking up a half ton bike isn't good for survival stat's either, and 9 times out of 10 if they're heavy the buggers go all the way over so you have to pick them up twice. They're not quick handlers either and tend to brake in straight lines as well. That jink and throttle blip through the narrow gap has saved my butt a whole heap of times. I like it when bone heads have their prang behind me, not in front with me maybe in it. So, if you're a new rider get something you can man handle by yourself first. - The wind in your face and all that, yeah it does feel good BUT notice that Valentino, the Waynes and Troys, Kev, Randy, Mick, Marco, Kenny Roberts and all still shave even though they rode on race tracks very fast and fell off a lot? Full face helmets save chins, lives, and broken necks. That chin piece stops your head from over rotating if you happen to do a tumble weed special and a broken collar bone is no big deal if you do happen to bust something, unlike a broken neck. No matter what helmet though, always wear plastic lens glasses if the window is open so nothing hits you in the eyeball 'cos that's more than just annoying. If you can't see, then you won't know where to steer. Tell your pillions to just watch over the shoulder the corner is; ie. right hand bend, right shoulder, left hand bend left shoulder and mean it. As a rider it helps a whole heap to know where and what your pillion is up to. Also tell them to get off ONLY when you say it is ok to do that. If you're still busy getting the side stand down as they do a WonderWoman take off toward the stars, then you are going to end up with a heavy bike with red hot zorst pipe on top of your leg, and no we don't smell like bacon cooking. As for riding around with your hands off the bars, well that's where the brake lever and steering happens to be, and dogs and cats do run out sometimes. - There's a real big one still missing though, and I'm buggered if I can understand why it always is. If you wear a backpack with all your shit in it and come off, then the 15 pounds (7kg) of stuff in it is now going to behave like 150 pounds (70kg) and take you in a very long dead straight line to the scene of the really big accident you're about to have. Wooden poles, concrete gutters, brick walls and parked cars will always defeat a soft human body no matter what clothes you're wearing, so anything you can do to stop from going that far is always going to help. Common sense is the way to win. - So, light a smoke and take your time and tie/strap your bag onto the back of your bike not your body, then on with the full face helmet (and do up the bloody straps properly), good gloves on, and with rubber always at the bottom, fiberglass at the top, ride off into the wonderful world we're so busy wrecking and keepasmileonyadile!

Has anyone ever read the D.O.T. test requirements in order to be certified, a helmet has to be able to withstand a 30 mph impact, with a 130-140 lb person, withstand a drop from 30 feet onto pavement without cracking, they also recommend you replace the helmet, after anytime it's been dropped hard enough to scratch it, this is why there's a disclaimer with every D.O.T. helmet, it's there for protection, not to save your life. Many years ago, a bunch of us went to a party in Imperial Valley Ca., and as we were headed back to S.D., one of us was hit by a bird, doing 70 mph, tumbled across two lanes, and into a ditch, all of knew he was hurt pretty bad, so we kept him from trying to get up, until help arrived (which took about 45 mins), an E.M.T got by his side, and loosened the strap on the helmet, (he was wearing a full face, and he landed chin first when he went down) this dude grabbed the helmet was twisting it off, and all of us heard his neck break (when landing on the chin of a full face, the helmet twists forward, toward the chest, and the strap can act like a noose) so wear them if you like, and all this safety gear, (in my opinion) gives a rider a false sense of security, which is one of the main reasons there are so many sport bike riders are killing themselves by doing stupid stuff, and they're dying way too young, and I don't care what you have on, half the time it isn't the earth, sky, earth, sky, stuff it's the 4,000 lb vehicle behind you that runs you over. All these posts on you tube etc, etc, etc, they show you the survivors, not the deaths, and for every one that lives, 10-20 don't. Nothing can take the place of being smart, and being careful, so ride that way.

Helmets like Seat belts cause WAY more deaths than you will ever hear about, I was a Claims Adjuster for many years, seen so many deaths directly related to Helmets Breaking ones neck and Seat belts, people are Pinned in place in a T BONE and a Head on they get crushed because the body isn't able to move out of the way. Many times that seat belt keeps them trapped when they go into a lake or river, the car catches on fire, they can't escape, but it's a CONTROL factor for the Govt. they don't give a Damn about your life.

I would be dead and/or without half of my face if I didn’t wear a full face helmet. No question. I cringe when I see people riding in shorts. I briefly had a motorcycle in college and back then I didn't wear any protective gear other than a helmet. This time around (in my 40's) I have a couple helmets, riding jackets for cold and hot weather, gloves, riding boots and riding jeans. Gloves are important. Even if you go down at slow speeds your hands can get torn up bad without protection. Being a vintage bike guy I like having gear on but not looking like I'm all geared up Power Ranger style. The new riding jeans are great because a lot of them look like normal jeans.

I live in the Phoenix Metropolitan and ride a 2019 HD Tri-Glide Ultra. As you mentioned the summers are brutal, and though I wear a DOT approved helmet, and good safety shoes...I don't wear any jackets during the summer months!! Doesn't matter how vented your jacket is - your likely to pass out from a heat stroke before you wreck the bike. Which is a contradiction if you pass out with all the equipment on and wreck!! Safety is a priority but being realistic is a must! Too hot outside...I'll take my truck and keep the trike parked. 👊Respect👊

In the US, your helmet *has* to be DOT compliant. Just look for something that is *also* ECE, or Snell certified. Seriously, the cheapest 5-star helmet is like $120 or less, you’ll just need to find one that’s also DOT.)

Riding with regular jeans and a proper half helmet and regular gloves (or no gloves) and boots opposed to the motorcycle gear is fine but of course with more risk, but just riding comes with risk so you have to ride smart. Lots of valid points. I do not favor full faced helmets, personally. They restrict vision and hearing, the visors tend to fog at the worst moment and although the tech is a lot better now..... they are known to be heavy enough to break your neck in a low speed collision where a lighter helmet would not have. Next, Yes, heavy gear (Clothing) will last longer in a slide.... but you have to balance that with the increased heat and weight ( read that as fatigue) that goes with it. In areas where the temps are elevated most of the year you will suffer from the heat and need to hydrate more often ( not Beer). That's all I have, thanks for the vid

I wear a mexican wool pancho when I ride. Its the safest thing you can wear. If you go too fast it blows up over your helmet blocking your vision. This forces you to slow down to a safe pace. If its raining too much to ride safely, it takes on 50lbs of water forcing you to pull over and wait out the squall, thus being the safest thing to wear.

But, I also have an OF helmet (also carbon) that I use when I am practicing in parking lots, etc., especially when it's hot out (I'm in the tropics.) If I'm going to be traveling over 20 mph, I go right back to the full face; but for slow speeds or slow speed practice, I think a good Open Face helmet that covers the whole head (not a half helmet) is fine. Glad I wore clean underwear since they were fully exposed.Hence forearms , knees , hips and love handles were missing skin. 24 hours later covered with hemotomas. Folks, Vans and sneakers are going to fly right off your feet if you come off the bike and roll, at which point your foot can "deglove", whereby the skin on your feet is peeled up, and/or off. Good video and interesting observations. I would be interested in your thoughts on the following. Just bought Ducati scrambler 1100, great for around the town and going to the office or meeting clients. I don’t want to continue to wear my full motorbike gear, especially in the summer. It’s a pain and not great to arrive in for a meeting. So, I’m looking at the Bowtex Elite and Pando Moto Skin UH-1 underwear protection. Both are made from dyneema, so have a higher resistance to damage than Kevlar. The material is also cooler than Kevlar and comes with pockets for integrated low profile approved body armour. Not sure about heat transfer, but around town I’m not going that fast. For me, this would give the protection against road rash and impact damage, and I can wear this under my suit, which is great as I don’t need to change when I meet my client, and I will turn up looking smart. I use a Shoei Glamster full face helmet and proper gloves. I use proper motorbike books, but they are of a style to complement a suit. Have you researched this type of underwear protection? I would be interested in your views before investing in the kit. To other motor-bikers, I might look a bit of a nob, but they don’t know what I’m wearing underneath. Keep up the great work👍

Well, I can tell you what I’m NOT going to wear in July and August in Virginia! But here’s a useful safety tip; if you want to be safe this summer, sell your motorcycle. Statistically, I think you’ll be over 30 times safer! And that’s a lot more difference than your choice of helmets!

SAMUEL WARREN I love both the history and the uniforms, the Germans may be bad and all but they had a good sense of fashion considering their outfits were made by Hugo Boss ( i think)

I don't wear full gear every time, but I was wearing my jacket when I low sided after hitting a deer. I slid over 100 feet and the jacket held up great. Still wear it. Spleen took a beating but a week in the hospital, I was shopping for my replacement bike.

4:13 Regular denim WILL hold up in a crash...I crashed at around 50 mph wearing demin Levis & not one rip in them...the paramedics cut them off of me, but the pavement didn't...

I love vlogs but holy shit can all of you stop talking with your hands. I keep picturing driving by a rider doing this and thinking they're having a stroke or a mental breakdown

I know a guy who had a nasty crash on his bike... he was wearing a 3/4 helmet with a face shield... doc told him that helmet saved his life... any other helmet... half or full would have killed him... so therefore full face isn't always the best... most people wear leather to prevent wind and keep you warmer... not as a fashion statement
