Damn! Mate, this felt like a near perfect video, which is totally ironic, considering the valuable lesson you were preaching calls for anything but perfection 😆 seriously but, no dead air, no fat, metaphors, philosophy, community shoutouts, story arc, relationship building, real world accomplishment/productivity .... all wrapped in an engaging, clear & concise package 😮 well done mate, this one ticks all the boxes & should (will) be studied! Take care & enjoy the shit out of your time with the fam
I gotta go out to the shed now and just have a look and a smell. Looking forward to finding time again, but also enjoying a spell. You said a heap of good stuff in that one Jimbo ❤Enjoy your holiday
You know I've always preached that I'm a 'One Take VO' and live with the result kinda guy as I'm not bad at talking out of my freckle. But I must admit, when I do take a minute to script it makes a bit more sense 😅🤔
It is so good to see you back in the Workshop. Loving the sleep time building and making. The Daddying time never ends I have two kids 19 & 17 and they still take up a lot of my time especially with Mom having passed but would I change it nope (well apart from having their Mom back). I get the scaling back and the head space repair time as the saying goes slowly slowly catch a monkey and you have good people around you. Like I said before really good to see you back in the shop. Enjoy your time away with family and being on holiday. You Legend!
Cheers James, I really did have a great time with this simple build and just filling that space on the shelf where the box has sat for so long feels like a great achievement. Now away for a long trip to the family in China, but collecting inspiration from the old furniture here for when I return :)
@FixitFingers I can imagine how good it felt filling that space on the wall where the tool was sat in a box and is now being displayed properly on a tool wall. Glad you are enjoying time with the family away from it all. Have fun, enjoy your time with family.
Haha, I was just thinking “Well good for him, he’s not even going to chamfer the things.” And then out came the block plane. Thanks for the vid, keep on keeping on!
Glad you're back. I like your functional approach. 🙏 Know the purpose, know your standards, and get it done. On another note: What is this slick combination of goggles and hearing protection that you're wearing in your workshop?
@@MoritzElsaer-fp7wp those awesome things are called Eyemuffs, specifically that's the G6 with built in audio Bluetooth. Aussie invention but I think they are available in North America now too. 😊
Cracking video jimbo sorry am few day behind so glad see you back dawning the blue overalls in the shop again. Hopefully things are looking up for ya. Have amazing trip to china. Lucky you were kicking into winter here 😕 although the no jar of fuks being empty had me on the floor😂😂 👍🏴
I am about 4 weeks behind watching my regulars so no worries mate ;) At this rate I'll be struggling to fit into the workshop blues when I get back, we've been out to huge dinners 3/8 nights :P
@@FixitFingers well a don't feel to bad now then being maybe 3-4 days behind. Ahhhh the old holiday guts you'll be fine Chinese food ain't that fattening few walks and plenty sweating in the Aussie heat when you get home it'll be right 👍🏴
@@michaelwillson6847 ironically it is hot and sweaty here in Autumn and Syndey has been cold and wet in Spring... by the time we get home that should have fixed itself. Stay well up there Mike.
Hope the family are all well James x simple build but effective and you're collecting a lovely set of handtools now ay. Super sad to see Mario pack RU-vid in but life has to take priority.
Yay that caught me by surprise. Hopefully I'll see him again at the maker meet up in Sydney later this year. The only trouble with the MTC collecting is they keep releasing new bloody tools... I'm running out of display space 😅
Cheers mate, I had a lot more fun with this projeect than I expected :) Good to be back (...then he takes a 6 week holiday overseas away from the shop... ooops 😅)
Hi mate, I love the simplicity of the boxes, sometimes it just works, and, they look really great together. Enjoy China, it will be an awesome trip. Regards, kmdc from Oz (Riddells Creek actually).
Great simple build video. You're starting to get quite the collection of hand tools, and its great to see you incorporating them in your builds. Also thanks for the shout-out i really appreciate it.
@@FixitFingers We canceled the subscription to the host.. so not sure if it will ever show up there. I asked Adam to look into it, but if you can believe it, we are busy! lol
Nice one James, good to see you back in the workshop. There's a good deal of satisfaction to be had even from completing 'simple' tasks. Small steps my friend. Take care and all the best.
Getting lots of inspiration over here from the old furniture and carpentry. Geez the old boys had some skill and patience. Going to be keen to get back into it when I return.
You jest but I might just need you to do that! Finished the reno just before I left, and it should be well and truly ready for a mow by the time you visit.... Ego is charged and ready to go. A mulch mow only takes about 40 minutes :D DM me, no phone here ;)
She's a bit hot and humid here but lucky the in-laws have good A/C. Those photos are from just around the corner, lovely canal greenway right through the city,
Great addition to the collection! As long as you only use hand tools, a playpen behind the camera might be a thing. 😎 And thanks for the pod shout out!
Thanks KJ, I've often got you guys on in the workshop on the rare occasion I can get in there. A playpen in the shop is on the cards, she can't entertain herself for more than a few minutes yet but as her attention span increases I'mlooking forward to this
Mate, good to see another vid from you! I should get around shooting some material again. Been out of everything for some time now, burned out. But things look a little bit sunnier now, even though fall season is moving in on this side of the globe!
I'm in the Northern hemisphere right now... Still pretty bloody hot at my in-laws. Feeling the mojo return, then buggered off away from the shop for a month 😅 Keen to get back to it once home.
@@FixitFingers It's getting colder here and much much more rain.... well, that's typical for the Netherlands, almost no snow and frost, and 6 months of nonstop rain. Time to get my hands on some shop space, my girlfriend doesn't like to see 20 chainsaws, a bandsaw, tablesaw, sanding station and about 6 cubic meters of hand tools in the dining room much longer. Cheers!
@@FixitFingers I confess I have a hoarding problem hahaha It's so crammed full of stuff you cant even walk there anymore.... I have a one car garage, but that's filled with one big chipper, for my tree business. A well, luxury problems.... Time and space is what I'm lacking, though since my mental collapse I have time enough. 5 weeks at home now, hope to begin work soon again.
@@FixitFingersblack vinyl electrical tape is my number 1 go to product for field/shop bandages. A piece of paper towel if necessary to keep adhesive off the wound and done. The pressure of the wraps of tape are sufficient that a person can continue if need be, or not make a mess while seeking further aid. I was a plumber after my time as an army medic, and two items that NEVER, EVER left my truck cupholder were eye drops for washing out chemicals/contaminants, and vinyl electrical tape. Occasionally while cutting copper tubing in a house, it would be under tremendous strain as it was torqued around into place instead of properly fitted and attached; this led to literal razor edges snapping outward at my fingers when they shouldn’t have been. The middle finger of my right hand got opened to the first knuckle while working and I taped the flap back over the bone and finished the job. Often the best thing to do for a dirty wound is to let it bleed some before bandages are applied. This is concurrent with the rates of infection versus injury types. Injection/piercing type wounds are generally less infectious than an abrasion like a scraped knee. Nothing washes out the abrasion.
Funny part is; a first aid kit in a car crash is about as helpful as a cup of water to tackle a bush fire! 😆 The workshop would actually be the best place for it!! Hahahaha
@@stuartansell9461 it depends on the first aid kit and who has it. If I have MY first aid kit and roll up on a crash, they are better off than a random person. If you’re talking about only having a first aid kit inside the vehicle that’s involved in the wreck, then I agree that it’s not much use.
@@liquidrockaquatics3900 I too am a fan of the electrical tape bandage! The other most important part of the first aid is the phone... and an understanding wife 😂😂
Cheers Ryan, it's a start. There is some cracking old furniture here in China I want to replicate that will be a little more challenging once I am home.
"I've got the perfect solution....ignore it" 🤣🤣🤣 Excellent narration and story telling to a sweet little build. This video had a nice "stocking filler" feel for me - Christmas jest keeps getting earlier every year...:)
Weeeeeeellll sometimes you can't just take that easy route, but when you are your own client it is certainly an option! ...oh God don't start on Christmas already :P
@@PJRayment I think mine is the Jar of Fecks 😅... I rarely swear in my videos so that probably caught a few people by surprise but then creative swearing is a national pass time here 😂
@@FixitFingers If you had sworn in that comment, I probably wouldn't have liked it so much. (And I know about swearing-I'm an Aussie too. But one who doesn't.)
@@PJRayment that was in purpose as I expected as much 😊 As much as I am a fan of a bit of profanity, there is a time, a place, and an audience. I'd like to think I judge it's usage well most of the time.
