Had it 2 weeks now, and just got the auto caddie working, i love this watch not just on the course but off it too. So much data and information and its helped me improve not only my golf but my sleep and and stress levels. It may be exspensive but i will say so far it is worth all of the 650 I paid for if not more.
Great review mate, I've had mine for 8 days now and abslutely love it. Today is the 8th day, have the screen on full brightness, played two riunds of golf , 3 swimming sessions plus some weight sessions and the battery is still on 34%, which to me is fantastic, love the health features and the sleep monitoring, is really comfy too, all in all over the moon with it. The downfalls, onky one, the price, but if you can get over that, I don't think you would be dissapounted.
Bought the S70 2 weeks ago and delighted with it... Coming from an apple watch and hole19 / Golfshot, i was sick of both my watch and phone being nearly completely dead after 1 round of golf so i was looking for a watch specifically for golf. Been using apple watches for years, never thought a Garmin would replace it but here we are, the apple watch hasn't made it out of the drawer in 2 weeks. It's stupidly expensive but if you have the money it's not something you'll regret.
Thanks for watching and sharing Vine, glad to hear you’re getting on great with it. As you say, if you can justify the cost, it’s got an awful lot going for it, but I think those who may be struggling to justify the cost don’t need to force the purchase 👍
I have had a ton of Garmin golf watches and none of them last. You should really get the longest extended warranty that you can. At that, their customer service has been very accommodating on replacements. So if you want to spend 700$ on a Approach 70 be careful.
im with you on size/color. coming from a vivoactive 4s @ 40 grams this is a very palatable step up at 44. 56g for the large is borderline too much. Not sure i love the colors on 42. Grey looks kinda cheap looking tbh(maybe just in vids, lmk if you like in person). white seems a touch feminine. . wish there was black in this size.
Yet rangefinder still the best, 1 problem they have cannot get yardage on foggy day. But advantages has a few such as quck accurate measurement from tee to pin, do not need software upgrade, do not need network.
This is the reality as someone who chose to replace a Shot Scope H4 with an Epix Gen 2 and a full set of CT10 sensors. Garmin Golf is not very good and the CT10 sensors have a serious flaw. The Shot Scope H4 (and NEW X5 watch) are 6X less expensive and a much better GOLF product. The software is better on the Shot Scope and most important to me, the sensors do not fall off your club. Losing a sensor is costly and having to constantly worry about this is frustrating. The complete set of CT10 sensors costs $299, which is more than the Shot Scope X5 and its included sensors! Sorry folks, I regret the Garmin system and with good reason. You have been warned....
Thanks for watching and sharing Michael. I’ve not posted my review of the X5 yet, I’ve had the watch since launch and while it does offer superb value for money, it’s been a bit of a buggy launch and I’ve had pretty much all the teething issues each update seeks to fix. And the battery life seems to be a little over 2 days without playing a round of golf. And as I said with my review of the V3 & H4, the data shot scope provides is unparalleled, but the app and user experience won’t be for everyone.
Great review, thanks. Am thinking of upgrading from S42, am 18 hcp and play regularly. I mainly want the better map feature, caddy assistant and more accurate yardage stats, wouldn’t use for sleep etc. Worth it in your opinion?
Thanks Ryan…depends how you feel about the price tag….if it makes you wince, I’d suggest getting a new or used S62 instead - if you’re ok with the price, I’d say go for the S70 👍
I just upgraded from my S60. Not having things like a virtual caddie, green contours, plays like, virtual caddie, enhanced maps with more detail, made this an easy choice for me. I loved my S60 and used it every round. I'll end up selling it to recoup some of my money back on the S70 purchase. But right now I'm just itching to get out and play a round with it so it can start learning my swing patterns / distances. Great video, thanks for diving into all the features, very thorough!
This is my first smart / fitness / health watch.... EPIX PRO I just ordered this watch in sapphire cause i am an avid golfer.....its was a huge selling point for me,, plus i wanted an everyday smart / health / sports watch all in one...lookin forward to getting it.....great video....cheers from Canada
I’ve got the S60. Seems to me that I’m real terms the upgrade just isn’t worth the money because, essentially, it’s giving you the same golf data albeit with a pants battery!
Many thanks once again Kevin for a splendid review. This watch has too many features that realistically would confuse me on the golf course as to what it can and can't do. All i want is simple yardage features with a slim looking and lightweight watch. That is why i still game the S42 watch albeit has just been replaced with a brand new boxed one with a new 2yr warranty due to so many issues with Garmin's recertified ones due to repeated problems
Thanks Raj 🙏 the s42 was the first golf watch I ever bought, not used it for years, but was surprised how good the case looked on my wrist when I pulled it out for the side by side shot in this video 👍

Had mine for about 3 weeks now and only problem i have is the air density for the plays like feature isn't working properly. On really hot days i notice that it'll have the air density number playing the hole around 50-100 yards shorter, apart from that can't fault it
Thanks for watching! That doesn't sound right to me - hopefully after a few more rounds it sorts itself out, otherwise it might be time to get in touch with Garmin
I have 2 big questions, can you have the golf futures in another garmin like the venue 3? And I didn’t get it, you can’t answer phone calls but can’t actually talk to your watch?
Thanks for watching 🙏 I found using my Apple Watch with golf shot pro the battery wouldn’t last a full day and the app would occasionally crash for me. The s70 is expensive, especially you already have an Apple Watch. It does have its advantages and disadvantages compared to an Apple Watch
Hey, great review and you’ve swayed me to pull the trigger. I’ve just tried to place an order with your discount code but it’s not working on uk golf academy. Do you have an updated version by any chance?
Can you please tell me how much (percentage) battery it consumes during a round of golf? I have S62 and its battery stands up to 3~4 rounds of golf. I guess 47mm version of S70 would have similar battery life with S62, but It is hard to expect the battery life of 42mm version.
47mm So far, I have played Three full 18 hole rounds. One 9 hole round, and I still have 43% battery left. This afternoon, it'll be 5 days since I charged it. I think I can get 2 more full 18 hole rounds . Battery is great
Thanks for this review. I like to keep my phone in my bag and use my watch. I’ve been using 18Birdies which tells me distances and allows me to keep score on the apple watch. Wish it would show me the layout of the hole tho (if anyone knows an Apple Watch that does that please let me know). Tempted to get the S70 but can’t justify getting a new watch just for that. Plus thanks for explaining that you can’t talk on the watch that feature is actually pretty important to me that the Apple Watch does.
My biggest question is whether it’s pretty easy to navigate the watch with a golf glove on? I’m left handed but golf right handed. So, I have my watch on my right hand and glove on my left hand and need a watch that can be used with a glove on…
Thorough review. I’m considering buying it but I’ve used a laser forever and I have a simple Golfbuddy gps - it’s difficult for me to justify the cost. If I dropped that much money, I may get an Apple Ultra but I’m not familiar with any Apple Watch apps. Great review.
I appreciate how you keep it real on this review. Apple Watch Series 6 owner myself, I’m using the Swing U app as a GPS tracker and it’s fine for my game.
Brilliant review thanks 😊 i purchased the 47 and so far love it . Will get it out on golf course on Saturday. I actually sent back my epix 2 as a lot of the golf features didnt work and didnt have improved features . For the money i dont know why they dont have a text feature or ability to answer calls . When connecting to wifi it actually brought up a keyboard on the watch ao ive no idea why they didnt include it .
Thanks for your review. I have an Apple Watch 5 and I've been using it for 4 years both for golf (with a dedicated golf app) and for everyday life. Now my battery capacity has significantly dropped off and I'm considering buying the S70 or the Apple Watch Ultra to have more battery life. Could you please tell me if the S70 seems too thick for everyday use and if the quality of the display is at least comparable to an Apple watch? I'm not quite sure which one too chose! Thank you!
I didn’t find the 42mm version too thick and I have skinny wrists! However, an Apple watch is a far better smart watch than the s70 will ever be. You might want to check out the new Garmin Venu 3 - it’s brand new and I’m currently reviewing it so look out for my review soon - it has an amoled screen and some of the fancy golf features of the s70 (it doesn’t have a full hole map) but also has far more smart watch features than the s70, so it might strike the right balance for you - closer to an Apple Watch in terms of smart Watch features but a much longer battery life (I got 13 days continues use)
@@GolfGuyReviews thanks! I had a look at it but I will surely watch your review, also because it’s interesting to see if it’s a good option for golf and which features separates it from the S70. I really can’t figure out why Apple can’t make a normal watch with at least a 2/3 days battery life!
Really enjoy your reviews, you’re great in front of the camera, explain things honestly and accurately with the perfect level of detail. I consult your channel before a lot of purchases, keep up the great work
Hi Kevin a really useful review again thank you. I have a Vivoactive 4 and thinking of upgrading to the S70. I have used Arccos for the last 3 years but got fed up uo with the ever increasing subscription. The Garmin app on the face of it appears poorer and certainly not as intuitive to edit post round. Have you done a garmin app tutorial or do you know of one that would help me get the most out of the app. Many thanks Steve
Hi Steve, I’ve not done a tutorial, but I will look to film one when I can. I don’t find it any harder to edit compared to shotscope (I’ve not used Arcos) but the data provided is limited for sure compared to others
@GolfGuyReviews GREAT review! I've got the 42mm Grey on order (delivery tomorrow) as an upgrade from my S62. I NEVER ONCE managed to get my S62 to display the wind data though - how will I do this on the S70 please?
Thanks so much. The watch needs to be connected to the Garmin golf app to display the wind metrics, so you may need to change your permissions for the app to ensure the watch stays connected even when you close it 👍
Once you've linked your watch to the app, so long as you set the watch to record your scores and stats, then the watch will automatically sync via bluetooth when you open the app. Thanks for watching Tony 👍
Genuine fact filled video and it has certainly given me something to think about. One last thing, if that is your genuine sleep time and deep sleep stat.... I ENVY YOU 😂 #jokingnotjoking
Thanks Loki 🙏 Haha yes that was a genuine reading, but we a rare good night (I have a screen shot where I got up 8 times with my kids and had zero hours of deep sleep 🤣) safe to say I didn’t need the watch to tell me I had a bad nights sleep 🤣
Really useful review and especially in respect of the comparison with an Apple Watch. I’ve been daft enough to buy both a Marq 2 and the a Tag Connected and despite their obvious qualities I still prefer the simplicity and ease of use of the Apple ecosystem. So sold them both and now thinking about an Apple Watch Ultra to get a bigger screen and longer battery? Is that a decent compromise? Maybe wait until September for a newer version?
Used my new S70 for the first time today. Love it but how do I get the screen to show the hole layout and the distances on the same screen? I have distanced or hole view but not both together.
Hi Kevin Great review 👍, I’ve had my S62 for a year now wear it all the time great everyday watch to wear, thoughts on golf without 3 sensors fitted to Driver, Putter, & most used Wedge it would be to fiddly to use when golfing 🥶, “if you want to check your round on the phone app” after your round, which is Brilliant to recall how you played each hole 👌, when you’re watch has recorded you’ve hit the shot it work’s brilliant when it doesn’t there’s too much pressing & scrolling to record it which is distracting from your golf, the stats are good particularly with Drives, Kevin is it worth me updating to the S70 🤔, would love to hear your thoughts Thanks Dickey 9hcp 76year senior golfer
Thanks for watching Dickie 👍 From what you’ve just shared, I wouldn’t recommend upgrading - if that’s your main issue, then the new watch will be exactly the same, just with a nicer screen 👍👍 might be better off just buying the full set of CT10 tags, but even then I probably wouldn’t bother 👍
Thanks For your reply Kevin “will take your advice” played today the S62 worked perfect recorded all shots 👍 , too expensive to get the CT10 sensors 🤔, when it works perfect it’s a joy to use😁, “You do the Best watch reviews” 100% Thanks Dickey
Good review. The features are nice but as you said we all fall into our patterns and the data becomes redundant. I was very impressed with the battery life and suite of features and upgrades available on the connectiq store from maps, watch faces, apps etc. I will say I’m a little disappointed in the golf features so far. I got this watch right before a golf trip and the watch was wildly off on the yardages for 2 of the 3 courses I played, like 80-100 yards off. I had previously downloaded the courses, I checked for software updates, restarted the rounds, even changed tee boxes to no avail. Pretty disappointing but thankfully I carry a laser rangefinder so that definitely helped. The notifications can be distracting but you can turn them off during activity in the settings. It does connect and reconnect to your phone quite frequently as well. I was really looking forward to the plays like distance but it seems that yardage is to the center of the green so there is a 1 in 3 chance it will help you. I do like the watch, maybe my expectations were too high going in 🤷🏻♂️ but for the price you should expect a lot
Thanks for watching and sharing legend. That’s strange about the yardages being so far out, it could be a course mapping issue, although I would be very surprised at that. I hate to be the one that says it, but you might need to turn the watch off and on again, or perhaps do a full factory reset. If that doesn’t fix it, then I’ll suggest getting in touch with Garmin and requesting a replacement.
Garmin Pay - get Curve or Revolt - link your normal card to it their free services - works flawlessly. PS - quick and easy to apply online. All done and dusted within 30mins. Curve/Revolt pretty much covers most of Europe.
Thanks Jamie. I’m guessing that means I’d then have to keep topping up the Revolt account…I’d rather not have to set up another bank account and just the use the one I have
