What was the Outlander secrets behind filming the bison and locust attacks? What (and who) would look surprisingly different without visual manipulation? And were the maggots (Outlander Season 5) and the snake (Outlander Season 3) real? Come along as we peel back all the Outlander CGI and Outlander VFX layers! (Outlander Netflix)
In Season 3, we followed Jamie and Claire on a dramatic sea voyage as they tried to rescue Young Ian. Have you ever wondered just how these scenes were filmed? In real life, the Outlander Artemis was parked in South Africa at the Outlander Cape Town Film Studios! At the time of filming, the country was experiencing a severe drought, making it pretty ironic that all the ocean scenes were shot right there. (Outlander sea scene) So how did Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe manage to recreate the appearance of staggering about on the rough, yet non-existent, waves? Watch and learn the secret! (Outlander voyager)
Season 5 tackled the bison attack from Diana Gabaldon’s novel, The Fiery Cross. Behind the scenes, this wasn’t an easy one to film, as the actual bison needed to be green screened into the shot. Of course, the production team had a few cool Outlander visual effects up their sleeves. And the same applies to the scene where Roger and Bree got to battle a plague of locusts at Fraser's Ridge! (Outlander special effects) Listen to what executive producer Matthew B. Roberts has to say.
In a Season 3 Outlander snake scene, who was Balfe’s favorite co-star: the snake, Scar, or Sam? Do you remember Colum MacKenzie from the first season?! Since the character suffered from a syndrome that made his legs curved, the experts had to replace the actor’s legs with digital limbs. (Outlander VFX breakdown, Outlander behind the scenes) We hope you’ll enjoy our video! Which effects impressed you the most? Let us know in the comments. And don’t forget to stay OSSA’m!

I was so happy to hear the narrator use the correct pronunciations on the actor's names. She even got Diana Gabaldon's name right. Well done.

It probably means she actually is a fan. So often these youtube channels find some movie, series or anime that has a fan base and get one of their people to talk about it as though they're a fan, even though they haven't actually seen it before. It's really obvious when one of these fake fans narrates as they get pronunciations (and sometimes even basic facts about the show) wrong. I'm glad in this case the narrator is actually a fan.

I was actually thinking the very opposite. This person is just a “journalist” and isn’t an actual fan of the show. I noticed they didn’t get the pronunciation of ‘Colum’ correct.

Droughtlander is really getting me down. I'm actually starting my THIRD reading of the series and I've rewatched the episodes innumerous times. I'm on the waiting lists at Amazon and my library for when Gabaldon's 8th book is released too. Does this make me pathetic? Amazingly I don't dream about Sam Heughan. You'd think I would given the amount of time I spend thinking about him.

Well, I have only read the series once- it only took me 5 months to read all 8 (granted, two of the months I was out of work when lockdown started.) Now I'm listening to the audio series, which Davina Porter is amazing-highly recommend it. And of course I have watched the show countless times. But I may have taken the obsession a bit far because I actually started learning Gaelic (again, when lockdown started) because I resented not understanding those parts! Tha mi ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig aon bhliadhna agus tha gaol agam air na leabhraichean. Tha Outlander agus Gàidhlig sgoinneil. Slàinte mhath! 🥃

The casting director is an absolute genius. The characters are done to perfection by the actors. I've watched the series three times, but after the first viewing I skipped over the worst of the violence. Some of those scenes were a bit drawn out, in my opinion. Attention to detail and authenticity is absolutely amazing overall, great cinematography, editing, and storytelling. There's a nod to modern day social justice messaging in the writing, but it's not too distracting and it is inevitable in contemporary media. I'm looking forward to Seasons 6 and 7.

Wonderful series. Love the characters in the high production value. There was one part that I found a little confusing. When John Gray comes to visit Jamie and Claire they meet his son in the woods with leeches on his legs but they don't introduce themselves and neither does their son. I wondered why they didn't wonder who he was since they didn't know that John Gray had arrived? Also when Mhurta brings Bonnet to the prison he puts himself in a precarious position because he is a wanted criminal himself. Why didn't he have Fergus to it? I guess it was a setup for the next scenes but I found it a bit illogical.
