A quick overview of almost every part I chose to use in my 1.6l forged Miata engine.
NOTICE!!! The engine itself should be capable of 500hp. This is not going over the exact supporting mods to do so, just the internal components. Two things I forgot to mention and will be adding are a billet oil pump and an ATI damper. Those are necessary for high HP
(pls ignore my hair sticking up in the back lol)
Parts used:
Block: Stock 1.6 bored to 78.5mm
Head: Stock
Crankshaft: Stock
Pistons: Supertech 78.5 8:1
Rods: Maxpeedingrods H beam
Rings: Wiseco 7850xx
Spark Plugs: NGK BKR7E
Bearings and Thrust Washers: ACL
Main and Head Studs: ARP
Water Pump Kit: DNJ

You know, I really enjoy this kind of content. It shows how much passion you have for your project and how much research you did. Very well done and I'm looking forward to seeing it completed. Cheers to a fellow small engine owner. (Honda CR-Z)

this was great i learned alot about the cost of building a miata always figured it was expensive and didnt know why people would waste that much but now im realizing i was just looking at big miata manufactors and its not that expensive

500whp will be a lot of fun if youre going dragracing. If i were aiming for 500whp on the street i would go for bigger displacement like 2-2.5 or even 3 liters. But im excited for the outcome so you got yourself a follow :)👍

when going for 500hp you will be asking for over 50psi of boost from your turbo that is a lot meaning your setup will be very laggy as you will be riding the surge line(also meaning it is not efficient). the way to fix this is by having more power before you turbo the engine eg. na mods(cams porting and such), supercharger(twin charge) or an other turbo(compound turbo). not sure if you mentioned coilpacks but if you didnt you should get some.

PSI doesn’t doesn’t equal horsepower. Airflow and fuel makes power. The right turbo like CarPassionChannel uses is around 25 psi for 500 whp.
@tlovsoe4211
@tlovsoe4211 2 месяца назад
@@MendicantBias1i am using boyles law however i am assuming that the temperature remains a constant. airflow is not the best term to use instead use mass flow. the point was that with the current engine he would be asking for to high a compression ratio out of a single turbo and my aim was to say how you could solve this issue

im currently in the process of turboing my 92. my goal is 375 whp so im skipping a stage 1 build but i would be more than happy even at 300. im using many of the same parts as you but will be doing 1000cc injectors, dw300, balancer, cops, 6 speed, 3.9 lsd, e85 and whatever else pops up along the way to support it. im looking forward to seeing the progress of your build and cant wait to see it ripping along. best of luck
@revreign
@revreign 7 месяцев назад
That sounds like a hell of a build. I've changed my game plan a little since this video. I'll daily it at ~300whp (or pump gas max). Then I'll bump it up to 430whp (500 crank) on e85. Flex fuel sensors are also a god send. I'll be running a 6 spd and either 3.6 or 3.9 LSD. 430whp is around 350 trq which is where those start to max out. As long as I'm not too rowdy with it, I should get some miles out of it.

I'm in the process of putting in a forged MK2/NB 1.6 into my MK1/NA 1.6. I think a TD05 20G on a 1.6 would be horribly laggy though. Nevermind something bigger again. A VF34 seems like a much better choice for your stage 2, given you're sticking with Subaru Turbos.
@revreign
@revreign 7 месяцев назад
Thank you for the suggestion! Is the VF34 the same flanges as the TD04 and TD05? Do you think I'll be able to get a similar power output from a VF34 as I can with a 20G?
@MrManBuzz
@MrManBuzz 7 месяцев назад
@@revreign If your TD04 is the triangular 3 bolt one then yes. You can get TD04s in multiple flange styles, but I'm assuming it's the Subaru one. A TD05 20G will have a much higher a power ceiling than a VF34, but it'll be super laggy, like not fun to drive kinda laggy. But maybe lagginess and a slow response are compromises you're willing to make. For me personally, they aren't. I'm happy with 300WHP, and I won't want anymore than that. A VF34 will get you to that while maintaining a pretty similar level of responsiveness as the TD04.
@revreign
@revreign 7 месяцев назад
@@MrManBuzz Sweet, VF34 may be the way to go then for me. As long as I can get to a little more than that 300WHP range then I'll be happy.

So why did you buy 430cc injectors, and undersized clutch. And a smaller turbo. If you are planning on going big later on? Sounds like a waste of time and money if you are planning on big power anyway
@revreign
@revreign 7 месяцев назад
The reason for that is to be able to drive it in the mean time while I save up for the stronger parts which cost a lot more. I don't have the money right now to go full out with everything. I had all of the stage 1 parts on my car before I even considered building the engine. As for stage 2, (~350whp) I'm going to max it out on pump gas and would like to stay there for a while. Many of those parts I can resell or use in my other miata like the 6 speed and torsen diff. They hold their value well. Stage 3 is more of a hypothetical if I get enough money for the supporting mods, I'll do it cause my engine can handle it. TLDR: I don't have money for big power supporting mods rn

So the 1.6 does not make that much torque you might be fine at 450 even with the 1.6 and 350 on the 5 speed. Im right now trying to find out the limit of the weak components on my channel aswell. Have a 1.6 with just rods, stock pistons stock oil pump, stock harmonic damper thin MLS head gasket, stock head bolts GT3582, 5 speed and NB Diff, Running 350 HP right now and seems fine so far. Also clutch: Best thing to do is get a stock 1.8 flywheel and resurface it and use a sprung hub 6 puck clutch. drives like stock. a light flywheel is a pain as a daily driver A friend of mine recently broke his 5 speed at 340 WHP with a 1.8 which makes quite a bit more torque. my goal with a light car would be hitting 400+ Crank minimum. if you dont drift or track drive should be fine
