Thank you Brian. Your channel really educated me about snakes and I managed to convince my parents to let me have a baby royal python. He's only a normal, but he is really cute! He has never refused food, rarely refused it in shed either. He's always been tame, never struck at us even when he was a tiny baby. He really is an incredible snake and has taught himself to climb up my chest of draws and go to bed (: he's really helping me educate my friends and help them get over their fears of these amazing creatures. Thank you Brian!

@rawrman1234569 9 лет назад
I've owned 2, the feeding problem isn't all that common, they will start to eat after a while though. Ball pythons also look cooler, in my opinion, so just go for it and get one

Kyle McHale i have a question concerning ball pythons. i keep reading that they arent active animals and they also just form into a ball when handling them or if not then they still dont move a lot when handling them. is that true? i would like to own one but if they arent very active when handling...

I myself am getting a cornsnake soon and a friend of mine has two corns, a ball python and a boa constrictor. His Ball python feeds fine every time he tries to feed it yet his corn went off of feed for 5 weeks. It's no big deal when snakes go off feed because they can go without food for months on end and they don't ever starve themselves to a harmful exstent apparently. I have never owned a snake myself although there's no need to really worry about feeding I still do as I'd be uncertain about what to do if it did go off feed.
@sarastrickland7754

Lord Ganja it really depends if you hold it a lot and gain your pythons trust i had a ball python for 2 years and he was really sweet and active but when you'd hold him most of the time he wouldn't really move unless he was hungry i would recommend a kingsnake meaning milk snake ,corn snake, any snake of the king snake family there really active and they grow about the same size as a ball python and there also constrictors i have 3 honduran milksnakes and they have never bitten eat good and are really calm there very good snakes that live about 15 to 20 years if you would like to know more just send me an email :)

@redleaderrabbit

I have a question. My mom hates snakes, but I've been waiting for one for a while. I'm trying to find a few she would be ok with me having. The big problem is she loves mice, and she doesn't want me having an animal that eats them. I would handle it myself, so she's fine with that, but she doesn't want me using mice as food, even dead ones. Got any suggestions for snakes that don't eat mice?

I just got a corn snake. She's about a year old. Whenever I handle her, she shits on me. Is this a defense mechanism or what?
@korpakukac
@korpakukac 10 лет назад
Yepp, it is. Though my corn snake used to poop out the terrarium only when handled too long and as he was moving around on my arm the poop would get slowly massaged to his cloaca. My corn was an amelanistic so I could easily check him in front of a lightbulb to see how close the poop was to coming out. If the black spot was close to his tail it meaned that he was gonna poop soon so I did not take him out until he pooped inside the terrarium first. Few years ago at christmas I introduced my snake to the relatives and after the kids handled him for like fifteen mins he just pooped all over the x-mas table lol Guess when your corn will get more comfortable with handling he/she will no longer poop on you as defense but may do so when the digested mice are close to the cloaca.

@MWebb-rs7vz
@MWebb-rs7vz 9 лет назад
Fallen Alien I know this is late but I think if you like the corn, get the corn. I personally am getting a ball python because I prefer pythons and boas in all their girthy glory, and the slow calm movements. But if you want a thinner, longer, more exploring snake definitely go with the corn. All in all its completely up to you and any decision is the best decision SO LONG AS you're commited to dealing with it for its entire life span.

hey snakebytes, I recently grew my corn to about three years old now. His name is marshmallow and he is a super chill and tame snake. never had a major problem with him until recently he decided to stop eating. He has not ate since 2/12/16 and still refuses to eat (i switched to every other week to see if not being offered for a week did anything, but no change. So he has not eaten for just over two months. Is this normal for a 3+ year old snake? He does not seem to be in bad health, he drink water, will "like" being held, and everything else is normal. Thanks!

Yeah you can't really go wrong with ball pythons as long as they are healthy and captive bred. You don't want to have to worry about parasites by getting a farm bred animal. I mean boas and corn snakes are cool too and easy enough to keep tame, but ball pythons have more color options available than any other snake by quite a bit. Check out the gorgeous black pastel ghost ball python on my channel. Even if you've seen a black pastel ghost before I can assure you that this one truly is exceptionally stunning.

I'm thinking of getting a pet ball python, I've had reptiles before so I know kinda the basics of keeping one. But I was wondering how hard is it to care for one? I live in northern Oregon, so it can get a bit cold (but I am aware a heating pad will keep the little dude happy) But is a male or female more peaceful? I own a pug (14 pounds, 1 yr), but I'm not gonna leave them alone in the same room, but would she be ok around one?

Just how big do ball pythons get? I really want one, but I don't want one that will get enormous like the ones you see people walk around with on their shoulders at fairs and circuses. Are there different kind of pythons that get different sizes?

Hey brian I just wanted to let you know if I could any possible way get an job up there in the near future. I have a passion for animals and I would love to work with you and all the reptiles. I got my first reptile was a leopard gecko, and I was so impressed with how I was doing, I got another, and when those two partnered I was so excited that there was babies. And for the love of those four leopard geckos, the love grew to bearded dragons, to snakes, to my big ball python, and my favorite of all time of course my leopard geckos. Brian you have encouraged me to take risks when it comes to any animals but reptiles in particular. Thank you so much for all the inspiration because without you I would not have the incredible animals I have to day, please comment back cause honestly to work with you and reptiles is an absolute dream come true

most people in my area get boas as their first snake, as they're the easiest to find and are native snakes (I'm from Costa Rica). It's illegal to own foreign snakes, so there's no ball pythons (except some smuggled ones), and we do have red rat snakes, which are the same as corn snakes, but many don't like them as much because of their size and activity levels

also for big snakes put a bell on the trap so they will make noise when stuck.

A garter snake would be great. They don't get huge, they are very docile, and don't require much light and much heat. They also don't need to eat rodents they will eat cut up worms and fish. But whatever you do you need to do your research on the fish because some require thaminese which will kill snakes

Hi Guys I got a baby corn snake just over a week ago, and the temperature in the tank isn't high enough. I have a thermometer and it is only showing 65 degrees on the hot side where the heat mat is. The humidity levels also aren't right, the hygrometer is showing 90 percent. Any tips?

Well, im gona get a snake and my attention it towords ball pythons and bowa constrictors, thogh im still a "kid" i still rearly want a active and large snake, ball pythons are good in size but not perticualy active and can be difficult to feed. So im thinking about a bowa constrivter, ill do some more reserch to make up my decision.

I have a question about feeding ball pythons. I just got a juvenile pastel female today and she was being fed live small mice, but has not eaten for 2 weeks. I know that I should wait for a week before trying to feed her after bring her home to a new habitat, and I want to feed her frozen/thawed mice. My question is, If I thaw out a mouse/rat and the python does not take it, can it be refrozen, or is it garbage?
@fionashepley478

Thank you. My 2 month old pastel was being fed live baby mice when I got her 3 days ago. She had eaten 1-1/2 weeks prior to me getting her and has spent 2 days hiding inside one of her hides. When should I attempt to feed her the frozen/thawed frozen? I have let her be other than just stroking her a few times yesterday since bringing her home on Monday. She is in a 20 gallon Exo Terra Snake Habitat. When should I begin to get concerned if I can't get her eating soon?
