Hi, just watched you fix a brother that had a bobbin spindle stopper problem, broken part that fell into the machine, you took the whole machine apart. I have a Husqvarna viking 203. The bobbin just spins on the spindle. I didn't know the stopper can be moved manually. I didn't mess with the screw. I will carefully try to turn the stopper. Love your videos. Hope you keep them coming. Thanks

Do you already have or could you do a video on adjusting the bobbin winding tensioner so that the bobbin threads evenly instead of cone shapped? I haven't found anything that shows how to adjust for lopsided bobbins other than saying to hold the thread and move it up and down manually as the bobbins winds. IMHO doing that can make very badly wound bobbins.

This is excellent diagnostics. This would also apply to my Kenmore 158 when sewing stretch sheer fabric which I just got a roll of for backpack pockets, etc. It's the biggest challenge so far as a newbie to sewing. Hemming pants is another challenge on the other extreme. When I get to a heavy seam, it goes through without problems when a) I've lubricanted the needle first and b) I don't slow down. I can't get through with it going slow, but at normal speeds, just stabs right through without a change in sound. Exception was a broken needle once. QUESTION: Is this a good practice, or should I skip past heavy seams that will not power through at slow speed and get stuck? The model is a Kenmore 158.13150 (1978 purchase) With plastic side & bottom cover, but steel internal moving parts.

I have this same machine and you do have to be certain the thread is seated well in the tensioner. I’ve messed up a few times, but catch it quick. Though, mostly I like to use rewound bobbins and save myself the trouble. 😁 Anyhow, it’s been a great machine for the past five years and nearly 9 million stitches.

I like to see you work on the machines. You give great advice on looking for problems. I have a question I have the brother embroidery machine and I have notice my bobbin when I wind it has the same look as the bobbin where more thread is on the top. I see you said it has to do with the tension at the top. How do I fix that or do you have another video I could watch. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge. Have a blessed day!

The bobbin may not be pressed on fully to the bobbin winder. Or there could be thread stuck under the bobbin winder pushing it up.

Wes, what happened to you? You were my (and many other's) go to, and I gotta say this mysterious vanishing off of RU-vid has me scratching my head. I learned so much from your channel, enjoyed your quiet yet directed tutorials, and enjoyed you getting a little off-center here and there, making your channel fun. Inquiring minds want to know, buddy! Are you gone for good? Should I unsubscribe?

Hello SMRG! Just getting intimate with my new JukI ddl 8700 -H, new career path at 61 young years. Have a great question, thought id ask the SMRG. Been enjoying your vids, did not realize you stopped! Hope all is ok buddy, But will ask anyways. Took the drive belt off , so I can sew by hand turning the tiny flywheel , just wanted to get a feel of how the machine works. loads/ stress points in the cycle etc. all really smooth; until the the feed dogs come up to move the fabric back. Quite stiff to turn flywheel at that point, got me thinking: Is there any advise on presser foot tension adjustment! mine as you know has an adjustable foot. So I thought I would ask the best guy. Hope you return... Kind Regards Steve in the UK

Hey Wes, I just started subscribing. I was watching this and it looks like the thread on the bobbin is the same as the embroidery thread on the top of the machine. I don't know if it is true, but my Brother embroidery machine comes with a seperate TYPE of thread just for the bobbin that has no sheen at all and is thinner. Perhaps you can clear this up.

Greetings! some expertise wanted if anyone got the time :D Basicly, i got a old Husqvarna Viking Opal 650, it was a old school machine that had some needle clamping issues and some other minor stuff wrong with it, they were gonna toss it out, friend of mine rescued it with the thoughts of fixing it, newer got to it, then dumped it on me :D Now i've managed to solve all the issues except one, the Needle clamp. The screw for it was completly striped, so i tried to get a new clamp. but APPARENTLY! those aren't available around here.... so i had to get the entire Needle rod, no worries there, got the part, realised its been changed a bit so i had to replace the entire needle bar+clamp, not just the clamp...... and i think i might have goofed :c The needle bar is obviously meant to be in a certain position, its held by 2 clamp's that are screwed so i can adjust it up and down, but it just don't want to play nice :c Either it doesn't seem to want to catch the bobbin thread, or it does, sweeps around the bobbin case then gets stuck and rips the bobbin case out of its place, with a nice lump of tangled top thread under the fabric ;-; Its a bit of a wild shoot i guess, but Repair manuals also seem unavailable (Or expensive) so i've been scouring the internet and came across this lovely place ^^ so yea, any expertise on what to do about it would be greatly appreciated. i've done to much to toss it out now D: Kind Regards -Askys

OK sewing machine repair guy when I take the bobbin holder out and clean my machine I forget how it's supposed to go back in. How does it go back in properly? My thread keeps coming out of the thread arm at the top which for me it's number 5.. How do I keep it from coming out? It happens a lot and I am very frustrated. My machine is not that old singer heavy duty

Hi Wes, that was great, your videos have always helped me and I wonder if you could help me with this please. I was using my machine quite normal then all of a sudden it started making an unusual noise. I stopped the machine and turned the hand wheel slowly to inspect where the noise was coming from then I noticed I it was from the bobbin area (top loading bobbin). I took a close look and I noticed that the bobbin was bouncing as I sew. The bouncing happens as the thread been grabbed from the needle by the bobbin case hook looping it around the bobbin case to create a stitch, the thread actually hits the bobbin case bump and make it jump before passing through the small gap between bobbin case bump and the spring preventing the bobbin from jumping to the right direction. My bobbin was threaded correctly, I changed the needle, I checked the retention finger against the bobbin case bump and it is in its right position and so as the spring preventing the bobbin case from jumping to the right direction and the bouncing still happens. I could still sew as the stitches are still nice and smooth am just afraid it might cause further damages to the machine. (Am using singer heavy duty 4423). Thank you.

Dee, you posted a great question. I have seen similar bobbin jumping on a janome 6019 and have found no solution as of yet aside from finding a tiny crack in the plastic half of the needle plate. I hate plastic parts.

I have brother se630 .My machine will sew about 5-6 stitches, then stops with the "check and rethread the upper thread" error message. I've rethreaded multiple times, varied the stitch and tension and used a can of compressed air to blow out the dust/lint. The stitches are fine, I just can't seem to get that message to stop appearing.i m soo depressing.

May I ask for yiur advice? Which machine has long life...Janome or Brother. I'm planning to het a sewing and embroidery machine.
@bookbeing
@bookbeing Год назад
Today janome is a source of frustration for me. I have had to replace the plastic top loading bobbin case and needle plate cover numerous times and these are harder to find as time goes on. I suspect the cheap unrepairable, discontinued plastic parts are a part of the machine's design for functional obsolescence.
