As a Michigan fan I remember this well. Many of us were surprised when he lost the job to Milton. Hes one of the big “what ifs” because Milton didn’t play well and was ultimately replaced by McNamara. Couldn’t help but wonder what would’ve happened if it had been Dylan.
Milton must have been a practice demon because he won the job in Tennessee, I think he had it over Hendon Hooker which is crazy. Milton wasn't good in games for whatever reason.
@@ronaldadams3230 He must’ve been. He definitely had all the physical tools, just couldn’t do it come game time. I remember all the players were high on him before the season. A few games in we were like… “this is it?” Next thing, McNamara is in, Milton’s transferring and nobody’s torn up about it…
I don't think people realize how hard it is to make into the NFL! I had a high school buddy who started at the University of Oregon as a linebacker and played all 4 years. He didnt even get invited to the NFL combine.
A former player of mine started all four years at linebacker at USC, led the team in tackles every year, was named team captain both of his last two seasons....and he had to send out a mass letter begging teams to take a look at him just to barely get considered at the end of the draft. Drafted in the 7th round, cut before the season even started and signs to a practice squad, cut again and signs to a different practice squad, played special teams for a while before finally getting two starts at the end of the year due to injury (where he plays great), next year he's back on special teams and doesn't get any meaningful defensive snaps all year, cut again and onto a new team, there he starts for most of the season and looks fine, but the next year he's a backup all year, waived at the end of the season. Signs and then gets waived by two more teams without ever seeing the field again. Now he's coaching. His big shortcoming? He was "only" 6'0" 235lbs with a 4.7 40. Back in the 1970s, those would be Pro Bowl numbers, but today there are just too many linebackers going 6'3" with 4.6 or better speed, and the coaches are always gonna gravitate towards those #'s.
He was a good high school player who went to Michigan which has multiple four and five star athletes. He didn’t get the starting job and then decided to follow his dad at Northern Colorado. But he should have went to maybe a PAC 12 or Big 12 school vs playing for his dad at a small school.
Sorry to sound condescending but I'm not going to watch for 15 minutes, and so I don't know if this is covered in your video, but the reason his career went south was because of concussions. Most specifically a hit he took against Wisconsin when he had all but officially replaced Shea Patterson as the starter. McC had a slighter frame but he ran upright to contact. In other words he was built like Tom Brady (exaggeration) but ran like his brother. He wasn't built to last and withstand hits. He was a heck of a dual threat before injuries. JJ lite.
I live in Colorado. The McCaffrey's were absolute legends during their HS football years at Valor. I'm old and remember how much hype Chauncey Billups was getting when he was in High School. I lived in the middle of nowhere and the internet wasn't a thing yet, but even we'd heard about Chauncey.
I'm in Colorado too and outside of Chauncey and the MC Cafferys there isn't a lot to hang our hats on as far as big time sports in Colorado.. I date back to Rich Gossage. Legendary MLB pitcher
@@Greg-fu1dv There are definitely a few others but more obscure. The other biggest name would be Roy Halladay. I knew someone who dated him in HS and said he was an ahole. lol. Some other guys in baseball that were pretty good were Scott Elarton and Luke Hochaver. In football, Tony Boselli who is in the HOF. That’s all that I know of at least.
His biggest mistake was not playing the 2020 season because he would have got his shot at being the starter. As a Michigan fan based on what happened after the Michigan 2020 season I'm glad things happened the way they did! 〽️GO BLUE 15-0 NATIONAL CHAMPIONS
First MBG video I’ve watched in weeks. First, videos haven’t popped up in my recommended list for weeks. Meta tags? IDK. Also, to me anything NFL is like forcing yourself to drink that nasty X-ray contrast dye. I don’t do it unless my life is in danger. So viewership will shift significantly. But the target market is much bigger. Hope the Finebaum move to a national audience works well for you Matt.
@ 11:01 , he already used his Redshirt in 2017, so this is a totally inaccurate point. Furthermore, Michigan's 2017 QB was so bad, and this was the old Redshirt rules and Harbaugh protected Dylan's Redshirt instead of the temptation to try him out of desperation.
My HS in Alaska didn’t have a single four star and we dominated teams from California utah and Washington that had 4,5 star players. Stars don’t matter honestly..We faced the defending state champions out of Washington at a summer camp and completely shut them out..Our defense was insane we didn’t lose a game for three years..I was saftey at 6’0 203Lbs and was the smallest kid on the defense.. For whatever reason where I lived has tons of Tongan people it’s similar to Salt lake..No cap we could’ve beaten the number one ranked team in the country my senior year.. We were that good..We had to play on gravel for some games because some schools don’t have grass in Alaska and can’t afford turf.. It made us tough as hell imagine getting hit onto gravel and dirt every play..Shit hurt..
Hey Matt, Was there another brother who played in the Senior Bowl this year? Love your content! Lol😀 Mike from Texas, grew up in north east Alabama! Roll Tide
Kid was 6 "5 220 and ran a 4:4 40 yd dash. He ran the ball well at michigan and looked way better running the ball than throwing it. He shouldve switched to wide receiver definitely.
The probability of anyone making it and succeeding in the NFL is slim. There should be "What really happened to..." videos when guys actually make it to the NFL. He can always fall back on his good looks and smarts. Looks just like his pop.
@@Chasing_777 And yet he is listed as 6'5" and so is McCaffrey. It's not uncommon at all for teams to fudge an inch or two on height listings but that pic looks like even more than that.
Let me just say some people think mushrooms think psychedelic but now aways they are also used for pain relief and other ailments so don't rush to judge this young man as he was an athlete with injuries. ....
Think you couldve one brother QB then the RB brother if they both have the same skill set like the manñings Eli & Payton both QB'S but the 3rd boy WR but play together or they want to be teamatez
Well done video. You are very fair. About those mushrooms, they are very popular here in Colorado for medical, therapeutic, psycholelics uses and coffee substitutes. Its part of the organic movement. Jake Plummer the former Broncos QB is also in this line business also here in CO. We are all but wearing the damn things around our necks. Looks like he got into it for the growth aspect of the business. Plus you can put mushrooms on Pizza! Oh boy!!!
It was Northern Colorado and yeah. The chances he got at Michigan he performed well, but I guess we couldn’t really see how good he was because he played so little.
@@MobiousDick-yu2ch Yeah I think your right. His dad was the coach. His talent reminded me of JJ McCarthy. Of course JJ better I love JJ. I was just saying as far as the mobility.
I dunno why you were acting like the Mushroom Brand he was promoting was something Shady. It takes 2 seconds of research to find its not the kind of Mushrooms or "Shrooms" you were insinuating they were.
Always wondered what would have happened if he didn't get injured before the spring which led to Joe Milton got the starting job in 2020. He had some real speed on scrambles playing in garbage time and funny enough had a couple nice TD throws to Mike Sainristil iirc.
The MaCaffrey’s training while growing up is stuff of legend. I’m talking his dad would ground them if they got shirt tackled. Phones were taken away before bedtime which by the way was around 730 at night. Their dad Ed was a good NFL player but has the reputation here in Colorado as a jerk.
I live i Colorado and I never heard of Ed McCaffrey being jerk. Sometimes fans don't get exactly what they hope from a fan and try to tarnish his reputation.
*PETITION* Can we get Matt to use his platform for we the people who support him to organize a boycott against the NFL and demand they give us our competitive sport back? The sport is heading in a bad direction with Swift being the priority and if we don't do something about it now it's just going to trickle down to College and then eventually the entire sport is going to be unwatchable for Football Fans. I don't give a F about likes but if you would sign the petition and want Matt to see this hit the like. I refuse to sit back while the ultra rich get richer by peeling our eyelids back and making us watch the destruction of this sport. Ultimately it's part YOUR (the fan) fault for accepting this. Every time a content creator puts Swift in the title they're feeding the beast just to get clicks and then you click on it and feed a double serving....which means you're selling out just like the NFL.
Can you do one on Cliff Harris? He was a cornerback for Oregon who burst on the scene he had interception returns against Tennessee. I believe his quote was when he stepped into the lock room. My name is Cliff Harris, and I’m here to lock shit down then he started getting in trouble and he has a crazy crazy mug shot. If you haven’t seen it, you gotta look but I’d love to know how he’s doing now and hopefully he’s doing better than he waslove the channel Matt go, Ducks
Mannn, firstly...great research and video. As usual. This kid banked on Patterson leaving and just stepping into the QB1 slot, not accounting for either Milton or McNamara competing. He is one of the biggest "What if's..." in Michigan lore. I think most Maize & Blue fans thought he would push the other 2 QBs. Pity.
I remember Dylan McCaffery playing at Michigan. At one point there was a pretty big buzz for Shea Patterson to be benched and Dylan to start. Especially when we saw the glimpses of great ability that Dylan showed vs the Good play by Patterson. But he lost the job to Milton and transferred out. I guess theres a reason he lost the battle and why we didnt hear about him since the transfer.
As a fellow Bama fan! Outside of Jalen is there any other successful QB that transferred out of Bama that a successful career? I really can’t think of any! Thanks 🙏 videos are great RTR
To say he “sucked” is super unfair. Why not say he didn’t have what it takes to make the NFL? he was a great QB, made it much further than 99% of other QBs! Lastly, psilocybin will be the next legal drug in North America! They are using it for post concussion syndrome, amongst a slew of other Brain injuries
Enjoy your input for the sport. Promote your subscription. Here we go. Have never met any of the McCaffrey's. Watched Ed go across the middle and get POUNDED. Lets move head Dylan was much better than what is being portrayed here. Makes sense, why Dylan wanted out of Michigan. He waited patiently then got over looked by Harbaugh. Coach is a joke around the league, Thats why he got out. (Corruption surrounds him) "Come back home" so to speak. The whole Family made a homestead in Colorado. Because of Big Daddy across the middle Ed McCaffey. Dude took hard hit after hard hit. Bigger talents came from lesser schools. Khalil Mack from Buffalo D1. There is talent out there. A lot of it goes un-noticed because the parent are reluctant to help promote them. Back to Dylan; Going to UNC Leading a WR from a top College like Michigan to leading a WR at UNC? I would transfer again. But Wait!! There was no transfer rule like there is today in Collage Football. He got screwed. Love to have him try out for the Broncos or any other NFL team. Mushrooms? There you say "There lies the problem". You will be going to Dylan and Jake Plummer when you and your loved ones need Medicinal help. Rather than synthetic. bridgetown-mushrooms.com/ getumbo.com/pages/about-umbo It's a great thing they are doing. Maybe read more about how a fungus can heal, (All Natural earth grown) rather put it down. Get off the Synthetic Oxy? It's there. Get off all Opiates? It's there. Alcohol? it's there Please don't disregard what they are doing until you do your research. All the best, Love your Content
I'm so excited to get back into MATTBEGREAT videos!! Have to keep in a buck, your fan boy obsession with Alabama drove me away. Like, I don't think you even realize you are doing it. Like most Alabama fans, you have a superiority complex about you that won't let you talk bad about Alabama. Well, now that Alabama has transferred to Ohio State, I'm here for your 1st unbiased videos of your channels history. For the love of God, please don't mention anything about Alabama for 6 months. If you can do that, I will re-subscribe.
This could have been a 90 second video that said that this McCaffrey kid simply wasn't very good at football. The end. The mushrooms biz thing is totally pointless and unnecessary. Just like this video
I could swear that he played for Nebraska for a season, with scott frost, didnt do well there either, maybe i mixed him up with one of his brothers. What a crazy plot twist.
Yeah I came to post this. MATT BE GREAT, was piss poor in his research. He Redshirted in 2017, so the number of games played in 2018 and 2019 didn't matter. Additionally, Dylan left the Michigan team before the 2020 season despite knowing it wouldn't count against his eligibility and he would have seen the field, instead Cade McNamara did.
@Lakersdude7 , 100%, if McCaffrey is there, then they may not get Cade in vs Rutgers, and they lose and they fire Harbaugh. Butterfly effect simply unbelievable
