His story is actually very unfortunate when you think about it. In the very few video interviews of D’angelo out there, he comes off very reserved and shy. He is seemingly a musician at heart who would rather be recognized for the quality of his music than his physique. As iconic as the ‘Untiled’ video was, I believe he regrets it in some capacity. It cemented him as a sex symbol and though everyone knows of his astronomical talent, his features got more recognition. I hope he’s doing alright as of late.

She was 32 and he was 19. What did she expect. He wasn't old enough to make a lifelong decision.

I met him when I was 17 in the Airport in Virginia coming back from 5 star basketball camp. What a nice guy. I was with a group of youngsters and he talked to us and was real cool. I was a fan of him then. Dope moment in my life...

This man was simply talented. I wonder if he would ever come back.

True story: I personally drove D'Angelo from Sacramento to SF International airport at about 3 or 4 am so he could be there for the birth of he and Angie Stones son. He and Raphael worked on music that may never be heard publicly

All MUSICIANS and REAL R&B lovers appreciate D'Angelo, and he is still regarded as one of the greatest acts. MAXWELL is another in my book--- y'all should do one on him !

I will never forget how seemingly affected he was by Prince’s death. When I saw him perform Sometimes It Snows in April on SNL (or was it The Tonight Show?) in tribute, my heart broke for him.

This brother had potential to be the greatest artist of 2000s...never knew his story but it makes sense now after hearing his story of him growing up with low self esteem that still impacted him. Brother played multiple instruments as well as the organic charisma & voice...yet he was looked at strictly as a sex symbol by most females. Real ones appreciated his talent...thank you Gary Harris for being there for this brother at his lowest time

Notice how they skipped right over the part when D'Angelo went into a deep depression after Prince passed in 2016. He's still very talented...I have all of his music, my all time fave is "Me and Those Dreamy Eyes of Mine." Hope he comes back stronger...

I remember when he was supposed to do a Prince tribute at the BET Awards... I was really looking forward to it

D’angelo valued soul and substance over style. The “Untitled, How Does it Feel” video pinned him into a corner he never wanted to be in. The video made every other black man in music to grow braids and hit the gym (look it up). They could all mimic the look, but not the complexity and depths of his art. His idol was Prince and you can hear Prince’s influence all throughout his music. This man is an ARTIST, MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER, VOCALIST, etc...and he takes his art seriously. Had people not gravitated towards the wrong part of his image, he’d likely still look like he did, early in his career, but getting fat was just a big F-U to people who valued a package and not the art. I’m just a music fan. A neo soul fan. This man put his foot into his music like your mom did with collard greens, and people sexualizing him insulted his artistic vision. I miss music. The 80s and part of the 90s were the last age of real musical talent. It’s around now, but you have to search past all the garbage and music filler to get to it. I’m glad this was in my recommended list. I also apologize for being too garrulous, but I miss 45s spinning and the popping of the needle against the vinyl. Digital music loses it’s soul, much like processed food. It’s just empty calories, leaving you bloated and unfulfilled.

I will never judge anyone because I’m not in their shoes and I don’t know their struggles and circumstances. I’m a musician/vocalist. If I had 10% of the money he made and 5% connections and fame I’d work miracles. This industry is tough but at the end of the day I’m grateful for a lot that I have. I wish him all the best and also his family and children.

My aunt knew his grandfather and ran into D'Angelo and him at a store here in Richmond. She told him I was a huge fan and he did an autograph, but she said that he was very shy and really didn't want to be seen. But his grandpa made sure my aunt knew exactly who he was 😆

there was a documentary released about him last year (2019) it’s called “Devil’s Pie - D’Angelo”. Right at the end of it, D was singing in the studio, and it writes “D’Angelo is currently working on his 4th album” so the album is probably coming in a year or two ❤️

He's still amazing, handsome and talented hope he graces us with his golden voices one day again soon💛

Michael Eugene Archer suffered from the industry. He was an artist and they tried to manufacture him to become more appealing. He and Eric Benet are my favorite artists. The difference between the two...Eric never compromised his love for THE MUSIC. Voodoo is one of the best albums ever created in life!

I love D'Angelo back in the day from the Broward Sugar album to the Black Messiah. Brilliant work from him. Poor D'Angelo. Over the years I read about the pitfalls in his life and my heart went out to him and still does. This is not an easy business to survive in. It's so easy for people to judge someone rather than to understand them. Fame can be a beast and not everyone can handle it well and it's obvious that he didn't handle being famous well. Praying for you D'Angelo. Even if the industry turns its back on you, the fans will always have your back and most of all God does too.
