What Really Happened to the Class of '65? - TV Series Opening

I found the intro to this short lived NBC series -- based on a book co-written by Michael Medved -- on the end of a friend's old VHS tape. It includes the theme song and a few minutes of an episode that starred a young, fetching Kim Cattrall plus Larry Hagman and Jessica Walter. I'd love to show you the rest of the episode -- but that's all there is folks!

This show was excellent! I actually was in High School when it aired and somehow I remember seeing it over the summer! A well-done anthology with a cool set-up! And with this premise they could actually do it today!

Thank you so much for showing this much of this one episode. This was one was also one of my favorite episodes of a favorite series that lasted only 14 episodes. I wish someone would please, please, please release this series on DVD (or RU-vid). This was a great series which truly inspired me in my very early teen years, and I don't care what the negative critics had to say about this show.
@mrBILL-sr2cu
@mrBILL-sr2cu Год назад
I wish the entire series would be released too, but I read somewhere that it's unlikely due to the number of songs featured in each of the episodes. It would take a lot of time and effort to remove them from the soundtracks in order to substitute something else. It's either that or pay royalties which would be costly. Again, something I read.
@ApartmentKing66
@ApartmentKing66 Год назад
The "negative" didn't only come from critics...unless you count Michael Medved himself a "critic." He didn't care for the show and referred to its cancellation as a "mercy killing" after 13 weeks by NBC. I know this because I asked Michael about this show and you could fit the positive he had to say about it into a thimble.

Incredible find! You know this is the only clip of this show on RU-vid! Not sure if any other episodes were lost forever or not. But I used to watch this Thursdays at 10PM in 1977-78 after James at 15/16. I remember this episode The Girl Nobody Knew, Airdate Dec. 29th, 1977, with the "hit" song "I need you in my plan" One weird thing looking back is this show was about the class of '65 in 1977; only 12 years later and it was like it was ancient history. Imagine a show Class of 2011...not too ancient huh? 6:00 Larry Hagman and Jessica Walter. Background music is Mrs. Robinson which came out in 1967, not '65

My Dad, Donnie Weaver and "sweet inspirations" singer Myrna Smith, wrote the song, "I Need You in My Plan" together on an airplane. I remember going with my Dad to a watch party in Raleigh, NC where we lived to see this episode when it originally aired. I wish I could find the full episode somewhere.

Great find! I was only 8 years old when this episode aired, but for some reason I remember watching it with my mom. If memory serves me correct, the promoter dies in a plane crash near the end of the episode, but he inspires the girl to go off and be a (country) music star. Maybe I remember it because of the similarities with the plane crash on “Good Times”. I hope you can find all of the episodes of this short-lived series. There is so much 70s television that my generation missed (no vcr) that we would love to see again

The show starts out saying it's 1977, then flashbacks to 1965. When the scene switches to breakfast you can hear Mrs. Robinson playing in the background---BUT Mrs. Robinson was written for the movie The Graduate which didn't come out until 1967!
@beholden1663
@beholden1663 Год назад
Yes and Larry Hagman was 46 in this 1977 episode. Given the breakfast table scene was set in 1965, Larry Hagman’s character would be born in 1919.
@genekendrick679
@genekendrick679 11 месяцев назад
It's not necessarily historically inaccurate, Cindy graduated in '65 and joined UCLA in '66 the table scene takes place while she's in college so it's feasible this could be 1967

I'd love for this to come out on DVD. So many great actors appeared in this series -- plus the phenomenal theme song! I don't think I ever saw this episode -- I remember mostly the one with Annete O'Toole -- whom I think had venereal disease. LOL, when I saw Larry Hagman looking just like he did on the early years of Dallas - I wondered why since Dallas was on CBS and 'Class of 65' was on NBC.

PLEASE do follow up and try to post complete episodes. I'm surprised that a network like Decades, which highlights tv shows from every era, didn't try to get this show. They could have aired all 15 episodes on their weekend binge. ......I was 17 and in high school when this came out. I probably only saw 5 or 6 episodes. I would love to get the dvd of this show. ......Also it was based on the book by Michael Medved. He sold the rights to NBC to make a series. Once he saw the series he condemned it. He said it wasn't true to the books premise: That the counter culture was a myth. That most kids of that era were conservative and wanted traditional marriages and careers. I respect his opinion but I don't totally agree with his conclusions. .....Don't worry about posting spoilers on any episode. Hell half of us will be dead before this show gets to syndicated reruns like "Bonanza."

I would love to get the DVD to this. But I think sadly, we won’t have the opportunity to see this show ever -even on streaming. There are perhaps dozens of good quality 1970’s shows that are lost forever. I think the short lived shows like this one are ones we won’t be able to view again.

Too bad this show did not succeed for a long run since there were some fine episodes. LOVE the collage at the intro along with the theme song. The episode with Michael Lembeck trying to be a comedian was well done along with the one with Kathleen Beller and this episode was also quite good. Not sure if a DVD series will ever be produced with a series that did not last long on tv which is a shame. I doubt if any company would want to invest money on this show since they might think that if it did not last long on tv, then it probably would not be profitable to make DVDs.
