@@australianmade86 Totally same. It's insane how much I relate to him. Also, it's so incredibly tragic what he could have been if he had found a way to express his boundless creativity instead of being consumed by it.
My theory is that Molly, upon eating a dry carrot with feces right next to it, a tube of toothpaste (which in the 40s would’ve had plastic and soap in it), and either real holly berries (poisonous) or plastic ones, she became sick and died. I also theorize that the diary entry isn’t actually Molly’s writing, but her mother’s, trying to comfort herself by writing about Molly’s last, whimsical night being fun and her child being happy, when the reality is that Molly likely died confused, in pain, and frightened. Edit: Edie also conceptualizes a “monster” taking her child away from her, as if refusing to confront the reality that her punishment is what lead to Molly accidentally poisoning herself
One reason I don't think Edie has written the diary is the impact it had on her. Molly was most likely hallucinating. There's one instance when she almost chokes on her prey as an owl, her heartbeat increases and she becomes a shark on land. That was probably a moment when she had severe breathing issues that translated into her fever dream. But I think if Edie had written the story herself, she wouldn't have been as convinced that the curse had followed them. Imagine trying to escape your fate, losing your father first and then your child dies, leaving behind cryptic messages of a monster wanting to eat her. A sea monster, to be more specific - maybe the one she drew attacking her father, who was later killed by the dragon slide. It must have confirmed all of Edie's fears about the curse.
Personally I think when she ate all that she ended up having a fever dream and woke up and started writing about it before she died cuz she knew she was gonna that's why it says I'll be gone soon
Besides, the punishment.. You got no real context behind it, just Eddie sending her to her room and locking the door. That’s harsh, proobably even for her time-period.
A lot of that sounds like a dream caused by hunger, but I think most of it was written by Edie because somehow, I don’t think Molly would say a lot of the things said in this story.
With the spots all over her it’s possible she could’ve had scurvy. This could explain the hallucinations, more so than what would occur with 3 holly berries. Although if she was being severely malnourished, maybe 3 would’ve been enough.
I see some people say that edie wrote in molly's journal but i don't think that's the case cause if you compare the handwriting in molly vs edie's journal they both have different handwriting. i think my interpretation of this is that molly died of food poisoning. after edie gave her a punishment for trying to climb the tree outside her window (hence her visualization of a cat) she ate the various poisonous objects in her room like the holly berries and toothpaste. her visualizations of various monsters go along with it, like how she hunts down a mother rabbit as a result of her frustrations with her mom, and her emphasis on being unable to breathe (whether as a shark on land or an owl choking from the rabbits it ate). i think the final vision of the monster likely came from her own fears about the curse, likely passed down from edie (notice how it ate sailors, just like how it ate molly's grandfather while out at sea).
It dosent really add up but i really thought her death story was this When she saw the bird and gave chase, i thought she imagined herself as a cat and chased the bird all the way to the end of the tree where she fell, and while she was falling, she imagined herself as an owl soaring through the air, and once she hit the ground, she imagined herself as a shark tumbling off the edge of the cliff until she hit water where ship goers tried to rescue her The rest of the story dosent add up to this but thats how i thought her death went
Perhaps you are right, though perhaps when she ate the toothpaste, gerbil food, and odd berries it poisoned her? I'm not sure, would love to find out from the dev someday.
When she said " i will be delicious" She could have literally and metaphorically ate herself either to death, or still tried. Either way, toothpaste & holly berries are a good enough reason any how
@@juannaym8488 its not a good punishiment, you are prejudicing your child. I agree with taking away their phones, or anything like that. But not letting them eat is just a unnecessary punishiment that will prejudice your child.
Holly berries are toxic and there's a reason toothpaste bottles tell you to get medical help right away if you swallow more than just a very small amount.
@@IceGuy369 I think you're right about that since she died in 1947 and our everyday stuff like toothpaste was made very different back then. And again if she's a small kid and eating toothpaste some and most likely poison berries, I don't think a little child's body will be able to handle that.
In my opinion I honestly think she starved . I’ve seen a lot of theories about the family “curse” being mental illness and with that being said people tend to neglect their children so it wouldn’t be unreasonable. Nobody is that hungry on just one night of no food she could’ve slept on that she was clearly starving and started hallucinating and died in my opinion not saying she didn’t eat the poisonous stuff but i honestly think she starved she was about 10 she knew better than to eat that stuff she had to be starving to result to Tooth paste and gerbil food she may not have known about the berries but come on now ..
My theory is because she ate so much food/ poison that she vomited and choked. This is bc near the end , she says "I held my breath for a very long time."
Nice theory but if she vomited and choked, she wouldn't be able to right this down. She just ate the berries with the toothpaste, hallucinating in her room, wrote all about it, more likely died in her sleep. But she had to of written ask this before she died
I think Molly died being very hungry and thirst and was driven to self cannibalsm. the reason i believe thirst is that she thought she was sooo thirsty she started to hallucinate. Then she was going to die of starvation leading her to self cannibalsm.
@@SuperKittyHero poisonous berries would not kill you in real life? Not to mention she was a child. Also combine that with toothpaste and hamster food...
@@adamjo5287 those were Holly berries and they wouldn't kill you they're just make you duck. Also hamster food won't kill you either neither would toothpaste and do what if your a child don't blame me I'm a child I've eaten those from curiosity and I'm alive in case you couldn't realise
She did not eat herself. Yes that amount of berries by its self won't hurt you but toothpaste mixed with the berries and the other stuff she ate will. It didnt kill her but made her sick, so she threw up and drowned in it. If you have a fever you can hallucinate like she did.
I’m fairly certain that she was being punished. Kids used to be sent to bed without supper when they misbehaved. It’s an archaic form of control that’s fallen by the wayside.
