Man, I guess I'm "so busy" with my life, I didn't realize they removed all the streamliners & old folks. Back about 1977 or so, when I was in 10th grade at Melbourne High in shop class, we poured those concrete tables & benches, and then set tile into the surface of them for decoration. Any trustworthy student in that shop class who had a truck or van, was picked along with a couple more students, to deliver those concrete tables & benches all over town. On several occasions, we delivered some of them here. We always thought it was so odd, how even the tiny streets in there were so........well.........TINY. All long gone now. I would have never thought of those times, had it not been for this video. Thanks.
The significance of that tree is this you see it in all its glory "my opinion" at the very end of your video (12:55) from the stop sign . That was my grandparents lot and that was our christmas tree all of maybe 3 feet tall in a 1 gallon garden pot in 1971 . wow i cant believe it was still there in 2011.
WOW! I have GOT to pay more attention; I had no idea this park was abandoned even though I've driven by! Your video came up during a search to recall the name of the airstream park. I was researching potential locations here in Brevard county where one might set up a tiny house. I guess I can cross Port O' Call off the list. :-( Although, it sure would make a great development for a tiny house community. Wonder what they're doing w/the property? Thanks for posting the video.
I played shuffle board on that court behind it was the rec. center where they had square dances and bingo and all kinds of activitys all the time. Port O' Call and Trailer Haven were always completely seprate. The mail room ....i walked and rode my bike there to get mail many many times. My Grandparents lived full time there from 1972 till the mid 80's. when you pan from the mail room back twoards the shuffle board courts you will see a giant norfolk pine tree looks like a christmas tree
Port O' Call let me share some memorys with you. Yes both plots of land were the old N.A.S. The land is owned by the Melbourne Airport Authority . The people who lived/visited Port O' Call were Airstreamers to the core you had to own a Airstream to be part of the WBCCI which is the Wally Byam Caravan Club International and they leased the land from the Airport Auth. and the sold seasonal leases to the members which most of the people were snow birds
Im going to try to put as much as I can tell you about this area you are looking at . The first place you were at on Eddie Allen "wow" that is the recreation center for trailer haven mobile home park "we moved there in 1971" yes i lived in trailer haven .
I had an airstream in Port O Call for a couple of years before they closed down. We were very sad that they closed and I have always believed that it was a mistake for the airport authority to close it but they owned it so we had to move. Now the land sits there without generating any income to my knowledge. Sure do miss that place.
