Great analogy using the water, never thought of that before. I have been a fan of high volt/low KV setups for years, at least since 2006, when I started playing with brushless setups. I have always found more efficiency with higher voltage lower KV setups, through less stress on both the motor and esc (Lower heat with proper gearing). I have recently discovered your channel (like today) and see some great insights and analogies that I never thought to use. Thank you very much

Ok I'm confused. I've been watching your videos trying to learn this stuff better. I would appreciate your recommendations. I just put a Castle Monster 8S/1717 sensored combo in my X-Maxx. I'm running mod 1.5 gears 15/30 Gens ace 5000mah 4S batteries. Weight with batteries is 23lbs. Question , what can I expect for top end speed, what HP and should I install cap pak?

Hey Mark, I love the X-Maxx, however, I do not own one and have limited knowledge about this model.

so what would be the current draw and power output of the 1100 if ran on the same 4s as the 2200?

Hey I have a question Recently I bought 12v motor speed controller from eBay My motor makes noise at the lower speed When check the voltage with multimeter I find out that the speed controller changes voltage not amp Is this how it supposed to be ? And if I want to change amperage output not voltage is there any solution to that ? Or I just have to deal with the noise? Thank you

So trying to wrap me head around this, the 1100kv on 8s unloaded is producing the same power and rpm as the 2200 on 4s unloaded but half the amps so would the 1100 run cooler than the 2200kv unloaded and then posibly under the same load as well. Seems my rc crawler 4s lower kv setups run cooler than my 3s slightly higher kv setups maintaining same gearing and wheel speed/rpm would I be right to assume that or am I way off

Great Video! If you change only the voltage (say 6S to 8S) on a given setup (so the ESC and motor are the same), I'm assuming the motor will draw LESS current for a given load, although the max speed is increased, so I'm might be confused. Does this make sense?

Current is equal to load or better understood as motor torque applied. Having the motor hit higher speeds forces the car to go faster. Faster speeds will require more torque from the motor since there is no gearing changes. More torque is equal to more current. Motor will draw more current as a result.

Another interesting video, another question! Let's say a motor is rated for max 38V and 52A. If I put 6S through it i.e. 22.2V nominal, can the motor ever draw 52A? Or will it just draw an equivalent proportion of that?
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 3 года назад
Hi Peter, thanks for the comment. The ratings of the motor are independent. 38v should be the maximum based on mechanically over spinning the motor. 52A is the maximum based on thermal limits of the motor. You can apply 10v to the motor and draw 100A from the motor essentially leading to burning out the motor.

I have a brushed off road jeep. I need convert it to brushless. Now it has 7.4v li po battery. What kind of brushless motor and esc is suitable ? I mean what kv motor ?

Idk if i missed something, but how do you get the kt value?
@mikcute9510
@mikcute9510 3 года назад
I tried some algebra and replaced the “1” 1/kv to 9548 (which is 4.34 x 2200) the formula worked with the 1100 kv, resulting in the same kt value as you said which is 8.68. Idk if it’s the correct method tho.
@RCexplained

There's a video on the channel going through kt. Kt is equal to 1/kv but you must convert to si units.

Can u do a vid like this about brushed motors slots turns volts vs amps and all those please im making my own brushed rc motors I don't understand a few things and i only ever get the answer im looking for from u

It's roughly the same as the brushless videos

The only problem is, even with a crap ton of research, finding the proper true KV of brushed motors is almost impossible. The companies that make them, are very tightlipped about them (even brands like Trinity and such). You'd almost have to have the proper motor reading equipment to get what you need
