Tell us your thoughts on the Powell Dragon wheels?! Buy Powell Dragons at your local shop or here: shop.shredzshop.com/blogs/blog/powell-peralta-dragon-formula-wheels/
I have a question. How come for a skater owned and operated shop you charge for griptape when buying a deck online??? Or is it only the ones on sale for $60? Either way I'm sure if a kid came in the shop and bought deck on sale you'd throw in the grip too.
I have a set in 56mm and I have to say I am pretty stoked on them. They probably won't be your favorite park wheel, but you'll be glad to have a set in your arsenal- especially when you're going to a new spot and aren't sure what the terrain is going to be like. For me, they're my new grab-and-go-anywheres- they truly shine on those courser-than-normal spots like ditches, sidewalks, and DIYs. For me, an older guy, they're the perfect wheel for street skating.
Brought the kid some last week for his board and now i have them on back order for my derby skakes and skate board . Wheel envy is a real thing in our house and i only got a new set of bones bombers 103's ive had on back order for about a month for my park skate set up and picked the dragons up the same day i picked up my new wheels on a whim for kiddlet as he has been skating a set of hybreed for a bit . But....Ahhhhh. I need them now !! Lol, ive been stealing his board at the park and letting touch my zero board as i dont let him use it after he flat spot a set of 101s on me, hence why he had hybreeds on his boad and the guy at our local skate shop had stashed the last set of the dragons aside for me cos he knew i was coming in and the kid always gets something when i order gear for myself. Umm , thats a first....me stealing his stuff now.... My new wheels better come in soon because if he flat spots my new bowl bombers , ill kill him . Lol
bro,Im a big dude, that's been skating for 30years,and I have literally snapped 100s and 100s of decks, brand new decks, friends decks,4 decks in one day....So when Powell brought out the flight decks, that a car can run over,it changed my world. After decades of thinking any flip or stair gap I tried was "bolts or break". Now Im just hucking shit like I was 16 again, I got kickflip melons back cause I didn't have to worry about stomping on my tail. I couldn't agree with you more
Levi Switzer is no longer a person but rather, a skate spirit that can posses anyone it comes into proximity with. Scientists have yet to understand this debacle.
powell peralta has always been my fav company. started skating back in 1987 and first board was a hawk which was outfitted with some oj2s. but also had a pair of bullet 66s which were like ramp wheels. and i still have those but haven’t skated for 25 yrs. good to see powell is still innovating
It honestly feels like when you invest in "pro" wheels for the first time. I've spoiled myself for years now when I stepped on these it instantly felt incredible. I bombed a small crusty east coast sidewalk hill no problem just to test them. So far so good
Yeah I've known since the mid eighties that 92a-95a is the sweet spot for wheels. I call "wheel rebound" "power band" Power band means how well a wheel grips and then slides once the wheel heats up as it starts to slide. I had a pair of cross bones that I got from a friend that were 92a. I rode those suckers until they were 50 cent piece size. I can't wait to try dragons. I wish they would make em in black though.
you can dye them. there is a video on here you have to search wheel dye or something its out there and x bones were the shit i got some the 1st year they came out with 95a. they were pink or redish
So the flight deck is THE best deck and Dragons are THE best wheels? I'm thinking certain companies are praying that George isn't working on a secret brand of trucks.
His Mini Logo trucks are pretty solid. They aren't for everyone but I think that they are a nice middle ground for someone who wants a hybrid between an Indy and a Thunder.
I’m wondering if they’re working on them…. Zach Doeling has been riding some crazy longboard style reverse kingpin trucks and I’m curious to see who makes them.
love these wheels, finally something to ride around town that also slides very well! at first I felt stupid for giving in to the hype, but after like 10 minutes on them, I was surprised the hype was actually justified. didnt ride them at the skatepark yet, because I have F4 for that. but these really are the ultimate hybrid wheels so far! they get me over the shittiest ground, where my F4s are basically stopping after 10 metres because of the vibration.
Just got myself a pair to test yesterday and skated them for about six hours. These wheels are like cheating! They slide when they need to slide and they grip when they need to grip. And somehow they soften the impact. Nine out of 10 from me.
once u skate g slides or dragon wheels if you then watch dudes skating normal hard wheels they kinda look like idiots pushing hard to go slow and be loud and bumpy, i dont care if its austin gillete orsome other pro pushing their little ass's off and going nowhere it just looks so stupid, or watch reynolds land some buttery frontside flip and then only roll ten feet and at 4mph from the friction looking like he's on a wallmart toy. skating changes once you ride a soft slide powell wheel, its a huge differance in fun and feeling.
the revolutionary releases of both Dragons and Dragonskins + other updated formulas from PP and PPDH this year are incredible and still hitting hard enough for a lot of people to not be aware of just how radical these upgrades are to the market.
This is the only video I've seen mention the higher rebound, which I think is the key thing most people arent getting, they arent as soft as a cruiser wheel but ride as smooth as one, they dont sacrifice too much of the feel of a hard wheel, they are in the perfect sweet spot, but its also different to any other 93a, the speed and effortlessness is insane, I actually get less tired on these than on my cruiser, after just 20 minutes on these I felt like skateboarding has changed forever and just doesnt know it yet. When people realise how good these actually feel street skating is gonna get even more insane.
🙏 Stoked you enjoyed the video! Love seeing all the reviews on these with different takes and opinions, they definitely seem to be a game changer and super well received.
My guy who owns a skate shop , known him for 30 years, gave me a set of 58mm for my McGill setup. I was skating the 64 g bones. When I switched it gave me an absolute shock. I could slide way better. They are smooth and I could gain so much speed effortlessly that I had to bail before running into another kid. The board kept going by itself all the way up to the top of the 6 foot bank. I’m going to have to get used to the footing and balance of my skating again, lol. But it is all worth it ❤
Did you already try the SP 93? If yes, how are they compared to the dragons? I've heard they're not as good as they seem to be harder than 93a but I'm interested if that's true.
I need to get some of these. I only just got back into Skating, and in my 40's now. I always liked wheels that were a little bit softer, due to skating a lot of rough surfaces. I got some 52mm big heads, as it was a wheel I actually knew. Sure they will do for now, but going to pick up some 50mm Dragons, ASAP.
I love these wheels so much. I have the roughest pavement outside my house and cant make it to a skate park most of the time. They feel so much better than my f4s, have yet to try them at park but god so good for my terrain
I genuinely didn’t believe one bit of the hype until I actually tried the wheels, now I’m ruined I’m stuck with the dragon formula cause nothing compares
I've been skating 10+ years and here's my take: are they perfect? No. Am I going to be able to go back to anything else? Also no. Eventually they're going to make a size and shape that I find perfect, but the wheel formula itself is incredible and might be difficult to improve on.
today was the second day of skating the 54mm dragons in the streets 🐉 and I'm in love! i have been skating stf 103a for years because I need to slide and i have been ridin the oj juice wheels on my cruiser for rough spots. the dragons combine the best from both. I never want to ride the 103a ever again after trying the dragon formula and to be honest I think i don't even need the oj's anymore. dragon formula = best wheels out there 🙌
These will be a game changer if they are that good and versatile I always liked Santa Cruz wheels Bullets back in the day were my fave 😎in a 95 d I also had a set of the Road Weapons they were fast on big hills dangerous fast even 😂
Ive got them i like them. But theu dont replace my conical f4 53mm mainly cuz of the shapes and that theu actually dont feel right on smooth concrete to me. Love em for rougher ground though.
Over 30 years on bullet 66 Santa Cruz. Nothing roars like them when you're sliding. Still can't bring myself to putting on those little wheels. Sidewalk rocks are real
I just got these wheel. First ride on them on asphalt, I thought “man these feel like cruising wheels”. I then did a power slide but shifted my weight like I was riding soft wheels (because that’s what it feels like), my board slipped out and now I have an injured wrist. These wheels are crazy.
Would they still give more grip (like soft wheels) on very slippery surfaces such as indoor wooden ramps? Or would they behave like hard wheels and slide out quickly
I've only used them on asphalt, so, couldn't tell you. But, if you look on Ben Degros's channel, he rides them on a wooden mini-ramp. I don't remember if it was skate-lite, or what it was. It was an outdoor ramp. He said he thought they were slower on that surface.
They definitely have a little more grip on super smooth surfaces, but it’s not full cruiser wheel grippy. They still slide for tail slides and reverts.
The advertising will have you believe that they grip on ramps "when you need them to" yet slide on ledges and in general--this is where I start getting skeptical. Even if there's some sort of AI that magically decides when to slide and when not... I wouldn't want that anyway tbh.
I was super skeptical as well. Especially since I’ve tried other brands that claim similar things, but they ended up both sliding and gripping poorly rather than doing one good. The dragon wheels are the real deal though. They’re not full cruiser wheel soft, but they’re still way softer than hard wheels, but still slide just as good.
These Dragons sound like the Ricta Coulds I have, 55mm 92 or 93 hardness & they are Awesome at the Skatepark or on the Streets. I recently got a set of Spitfire 58mm 99 dur & the ONLY place they're good is at a Skatepark, other than that they're Useless, Rough, Slow, Vibrate your Soul...I also have 2 sets of Super Juice 55mm 78dur and they are the Fastest wheels on the Street & at the SKATEPARK toooo. I also like the way they look, the SUPER JUICE, very 1970's Vibe....
Most RICTA clouds are much softer than these (78A-92A), clouds would be better for pebbles (although nothing is pebble proof), but clouds are super sticky so you won’t be able to do lots of tricks like blunt slides with a cloud. So I guess depends on what you wanna do with your board, strictly cruising, or tricks etc.
