As someone who worked for a leather accessories designer, I'll go one further and explain that tumbled leather is typically poorer quality leather that they texture to mask the faults. The AJ1 Defiant Couture took so much heat for the stiff, smooth leather when in fact that was the finest quality shoe leather ever put on a Jordan. Look, I like tumbled leather too, but don't get it twisted, it's not better; quite the opposite.

There is a difference. Although minor, the small details make them that much more genuine to the 85's. I love OG cuts for any model, over any new version. For example, the shape & cuts of XI's from 2007-2015. People were so brainwashed by the banana shape, low cut patent leather, wrong facing jumpman, that many still prefer it. Maybe people were still too young OR weren't into Jordans prior to 2003/2004.
as an amateur leather quality checker, nike's tumbled leather is actually worse quality than this smooth leather making this some of the finesst leather ever put on aj1s
As a og at age 51 I remembered how the original Jordan 1 came out in 85 and these new high 85 cuts bring back alot of great memories. Was able to cop these along with the neutral greys and I love wearing them. Looking forward to getting the high 85 Georgetown's as well. Great video and review!😎👍
I see people online complaining about the leather quality of the '85s, but to me, it feels like the best Jordan 1 leather quality they've ever put out there (I don't own the New Beginnings pack nor any of the 1985 OGs). These '85 versions have sturdy, thick leather that you need to break-in to mold to your foot. The leather you would see on a nice Red Wing or Frye boot or a Schott leather jacket. I'm extremely grateful for my pair...
Guys, give it up wit the opinions and hate. Its over bruh; they flew, arguably the hottest drop of the weekend. Yea I'm not giving 600 up for em (or even over 3) but I'm def not gonna pretend to not like em; they are FIRE.
So glad they finally fixed the size of the swoosh. The things that bothered me most about the "newer" Jordan 1s are the curved collar and smaller swoosh.
This is a OG colorway, Jordan wore these in a few games as a PE. The leather is real genuine high quality leather and is better quality than any Jordan 1's released as those have soft tumbled cheap synthetic leather that's low quality. Real high grade Leather is supposed to be thick (Animal Skin) and requires to be broken in like a Clark boot.
Lies no they wouldn’t if you saw the lines for these and most people that they were a GR until last minute announced they were limited. Even SNKRS went down from people trying to get them. Believe me they weren’t sitting at all in anywhere!
Good thing you pointed out the dust bag not being color safe. The first thing I noticed when I received my pair yesterday. The tissue paper being wrapped around the shoes made complete sense after seeing the black dye stained on the white tissue paper and inside the box.

those 8.5s look like they fit you better than 9s. I go down a half size in all my 1s now, just a much better fit. These will work even better with a snug fit once that real leather breaks in imo
It wasn’t easy to cop and I live in Chicago. Easy shoe I was able to cop during all star weekend in person were the Jordan 3 chi at a Nike store in the southside of Chicago

Nike accidentally sent me two pairs of this shoe. Im going to keep em on ice and see what they might be worth in a few months. Super clean shoe but chances are I'll sell both pairs and buy an equally nice pair that isn't as much.

On the original jordan 1s front 85, they had the numbering for size. It also has a serial that I dont know what it's for, but the letters at the end are for the factory.

Thanks for the insight on the dust bags! I got a pair last month in August from Nike Sneakrs App in Europe, when they had Sneakrs App day and restocked a bunch of sneakers. I got exclusive access to a pair of Jordan 1 85's and copped them. When they arrived I saw on the numbering on the dust bag was 29990/29999. So I think that the rumor you mentioned is true.
This new 85 hi original cut and materials are fucking incredible! I paid resell for these and I do not have buyers remorse. If and only if the 85 hi from the beginnings pack drops below a stack then I'll grab them also
I like em, but there is 1 thing that bothers me and i saw this on the hotel-footage in Chicago (and i thought it must have been the lighting) and i can’t unsee it now...the swoosh is just a little brighter shade of red and that just annoys me way more than it should
mrniceguy67 honestly, I have $7,859.51 in an account I use ONLY for clothing and tech. I already had these and could buy several again if I wanted. The fit sucks, they look clownish and the colorway isn’t good at all. 700$ for these makes no sense.
I wish I got a pair on all star weekend cuz those are just too dope and I prefer the 85 cut to the mower ones for whatever reason they just look cleaner to me
I think the color way makes the shoe different from a standard Bred J1. This might be because Nike wanted them to be recognizable and not just blend in.
What’s different is that they suck. I bought them, touched the plastic “leather” and sold them for $400 profit ($650 total). Now I bought the Chicagos, and I’m happy.
The way the laces sit on the shoe looks far better on the typical style 2016 breds. I cant stand the laces on the 85 pair. I didnt stop me spending loads of british pounds on resale tho. 😉
Tumbled or not, the leather is bad, CW is weird, "super limited" and hyped but it's a disappointment all in all. I would not buy this for retail let alone resell. Thanks for the detailed review.
I honestly think that these won’t drop again because if they plan on doing this again people might get angry that they did re-release this pair but not the other ones. The numbering is also for a reason so yeah. Just my personal thought about it
The toebox on the OG 1985 pairs varied from pair to pair based on the factory, but some of them came like this model! Eventually, they would bottom out with wear and the leather getting older and come to resemble the flatter, wider shape you see on the Retro Highs from 2015+
This shoe looks like bred version of chicago The white parts of the chicago except the mid sole colored black and the black swoosh on the chicago painted red and then there u go... You got the reversed bred PS: u can just say it's the black version of the air jordan 1 from the new beginnings pack
I have this but the version in the back says ''Since'' 85, ( bought them at the nike outlets about 14 years ago ) color wise they are still great and they barely have scratches, the white rubber part at the bottom has some glue stains due to the soles that came off i just have to put the soles back together and try to clean the soles with some good solution for that but other than that they stil pretty wearable, i do want to sell them some day in the near future, do you have an idea of the ones i am talking about and if yes, for how much you think i can sell them for?
i want these and the red and whites, but imma be patient i have a feeling they’ll both drop again...especially the red and whites if not that would be a super shitty on Nike’s behalf
