Wish I knew how to do body work..... We have a few Model T, A, 40s, 50s Fords and Studebakers laying around. While they are blue collar cars I still think their styling is great. Great show BTW I just discovered this and will be sharing with my Dad who is also a Classic auto enthusiast. We currently own a perfect 1932 Chevrolet sedan restored by my Great late Uncle Joe.

I've worked in car restoration, but not to this level! I have had the pleasure (no sarcasm, it was a privilege) to work on a restored 31 cadillac V12 roadster which had multiple issues with running and braking and was able to fix pretty much all of it to the point the care was not only drivable, but reliable. learned a lot about how companies designed ignition, charging and braking systems on that one. Great video, such a wonderful shop, thanks for making this!

Just amazed at the knowledge and talent. My dad would eat this up if still with us. Born in 1922 he saw so much of this development, well at least the post 1935 or so. Now I know why he talked fondly of this era. He only owned the common man cars of course but he knew of these cars.

That 34 Cadillac 355D (looks to be a 128" wb) town car brings back a few memories from the one I restored in the early 90's, it was quite the job to find some pieces like original tail lenses but was a nice car once finished.

If I recollect correctly, you said in this or one of your videos that you were going to put new innards in the third member. Is that sort of thing allowed in the antique restoration field? What sort of modifications and or upgrades are allowed so as not to be knocked points in a show judging? Keep up the nice work, it is appreciated. JIM

THAT MAN HAS THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD!!! RESTORING BRILLIANT ART; ENGINEERING; DESIGN; AND A WONDERFUL PIECE OF HISTORY SHOWING WHEN THE US WAS A REAL FREE AND UNENCOMBERED AUTO BUILDERS WITH NO RESTRAINT ON EMISSIONS OR SAFETY RESTRICTIONS. SUCH AS BUZZERS GOING OFF TO DRIVE YOU NUTS. I GREW UP IN THE LATE 30'S40S NEXT DOOR TO A FUNERAL HOME THAT OWNED TWIN 1937 PACKARD'S.ONE A LIMOUSINE V12 AND A HENNY PACKARD V12 HEARSE. THE LIMO ALSO DOUBLED AS AN AMBULANCE WHICH HAD A SIREN AND USED TO TRANS PORT MENTALLY CHALLENGED PATIENTS TO THE ASYLUM.I SNUCK INTO THE GARAGE ONE DAY AND CLIMBED INTO THE LIMO/AMBULANCE /THEY SAW ME DO IT AND AS I WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVERS SEAT THEY SET OF THE ALARM SCARED ME TO DEATH AND ISTARTED TO CRY WHALING AWAY WITH THE SIREN. ONE DAY THEY WERE GETTING READY FOR A FUNERAL AND TOLD ME TO GET IN THE LIMO AS THEY HAD TO GAS IT UP AND GOT A RIDE FOR A MILE OR SO AND BACK. LUXURY AT ITS BEST AS THE FLOOR WAS INLAID WITH 8 IN. OF MARBLE TO ADD WEIGH SO AS TO MAKE IT RIDE SMOOTH.

@claytoresto

My accountant would agree it is just a hobby. The truth is the restoration business is one of the worst financial decisions one can make. I spent $4M on the property, buildings, and equipment. On top of that, help is almost impossible to find. On top of that, parts are made out of unobtainium. But, I love the cars and this new venture into media and TV has sparked my interest. I formed a production company with some great people that have been in the media production industry for over 20 years. I hope to bring several automotive related shows to either the networks or right here on RU-vid.

Can't believe you have trouble finding decent workers ! Unless you're facing the same problems we have here in the Greater Montreal area: lack of interest of the younger generation to wrench, getting their sensitive lil' hands dirty! I know a couple of guys in their 40's who sure would love in such a clean, well organized environment as yours ! Being younger, I would ! Congrats !

Oh, there's so many people out there who say they can do work at this level. They SAY they can, but we couldn't even find people who could do the simplest of mechanical work reliably at the restoration shop I was at. You have to be damn comfortable around cars like this as mistakes are not easy to fix. As for finding body or painters, most are slobs or are so damn slow they're useless. My strength was in parts repair and refurbishment, electrical systems and engine assembly and troubleshooting. They weren't happy to lose me, but It was a family business and they treated people like crap.

Marc René Yvon Believe what he's saying on the difficulty of finding good help. Back in the 60-80's I apprenticed in plumbing, electric, and carpentry trade's under union regulations. So after going back for my engineering certification in my thirties managed renovation and remodel projects for hotels all up and down the east coast. From my experience it is barely one in ten If that of workers that actually have the knowledge to do their job correctly and can also be counted on to get it done in a timely manner. Ie showing up on time, every day, and not trying to pad the clock. The work ethic in our country has gone to crap over the past fifty or so years. There are multiple reasons for this I realize,, but it is how it is.

Highly impressive workshop, floors one can eat off. This should be an example to workshops with filty oily floors where one literally has to change shoes before getting into one's car. If done regularly, it really doesn't take much effort to keep a workshop and the floors clean.
