What's going on with Brighter Shores?

I'll drop a video when I feel like we have received substantial information about the game, such as gameplay footage or other announcements that I feel are important for people to know of.
This might not be the typical video you would expect for an upcoming MMORPG but I feel like people have the right to question things, especially when we just simply don't know shit about the game and are getting news about things that don't really matter to people as much.

This video might not be what you guys expect but even if I believe Andrew has good intentions and want to make a good game, there's a chance it might not go as planned. I will remain skeptical until we have seen footage that is worthy of being displayed. Edit: Looks like I was right in my prediction of Brighter Shores being delayed to September or EVEN later. I don't know about you guys but I'm really hyped for Brighter Shores and waiting the game. For me this game is like a breath of fresh air when I look at modern MMORPG

Think Andrew Gower has shown little as he never really needed to publicly share things prior to launching a project. RS classic simply existed, Funorb quite the same, as there was never really a period of time where things needed to be shown ahead of time. He doesn't feel the need to really share much asides what he is currently working on as in a way that is how it has always been. Even many RS1 and 2 news post were structured in this way. Playerbase wise it will never beat OSRS, but Brighter Shores does have the opportunity to beat RS3 and essentially become a RS4 in a sense, or even the true RS3 version as what is currently RS3 has become far removed from his influence and original vision.

I see this comment frequently, but nobody explains which aspects of the game didn't align with his vision. So, what is it about RS3 that he dislikes or feels doesn't match what he envisioned? Will skills actually be useful, or will PvM dominate the game, causing loot drops to devalue skills and their associated items? Will updates just devalue previous items and skills? Will there be a player-based barter economy without an automated Grand Exchange?"

@@wazup3333 MTX, PvM overshadowing skilling, overcomplicating everything instead of keeping things easy to understand. He also is quite minigame heavy compared to modern RS due to liking game design, commonly adding multiple minigames a year compared to both modern runescapes often adding less than 1 per year at current rates as skilling bosses and raids don't count. This seems even more likely with how he changed the servers for Brighter Shores to have no world hopping system, so a given minigame would pull from everyone interested in the minigame at once rather than a dedicated world. This is also very likely how he will handle PvP in Brighter Shores, in that most if not all of it will be via minigames, though most of this would likely be excluded from launch as the last time he did an MMO the only thing it launched with was 1 on 1 duels until later down the line.

@@TacetTheTerror what's mtx? I don't think it's possible to have everyone in a mini game in the same world? It was mentioned that when a room is too populated you will be forced out into an alternative room, but doesn't this defeat the interaction factor of many players?

Reminder that hit EA game apex legends released fully complete the same day it was announced. Devs don't have to explain every mechanic to us before launch for it to be good. The fact his communicating at all is a great sign.

Well I mean if you want to make comparisons I can give you a list of 100000 games or more in recent years that have completely failed on launch. I can also mention other games in the same genre that have not been released yet, that have provided way more gameplay footage than Brighter shores. It's not really an argument. I am not saying that people are entitled to know these things, but people definitely have the right to question Brighter Shores, especially when most of us don't really know how its going to play out with 0 gameplay footage.

Ngl if this game is released on mobile alongside PC i can see it retaining a relatively healthy player base. It won't be industry defining but i can certainly see it being about as popular as Albion online But if they're only going to rely on PC gamers to carry the numbers for a game like this, it really isn't going to cut it. They'll be in for an awakening 😂.

it's like a cross between the sims and minecraft. I don't think it will do well due to the puzzle piece mode room stuff but best of luck to Andrew and his team.

I know RS had the grid system, but i dont like how much they leaned into that. BS looks like a tabletop game, i think even OSRS looks better graphically and gameplay wise in terms of modern gameplay. We'll see, i might be surprised.

Yeah but my implication was that instead of July or August (as many of us in the community believed), it would be delayed to late september. Either way, we were also expecting to have the closed beta by now, but nothing on that part either.

FYI those TODO's don't really mean anything. Programmers often use "TODO" as a marker to check something later in the code, it doesn't necessarily mean its something that needs to be done.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the room to room concept either, or forcing people out of rooms due to population. I like the fact that so many people can in be a crowded place like rs

I like RS so much and Andrew decides to make this not an openworld + class based. Meh 😥 I will still try it out ofc, maybe he made it work but just off those two significant things alone I'm less hyped. As for releasing when expected I guess there's no way of telling.
