I hate to be that person but it's not good to get new school supplies every year. I know they deserve it but sometimes it's good to re-use stuff rather then buying new stuff every year and if they get sick of their bag why cant they trade with another sibling ?

I am out of high school and college with my Bachelors degree but I still miss going back to school shopping. I love school so much that I now work in a school!

I grew up in New York State and always had back to school lists sent home for supplies. But now living in Vermont, my son’s school doesn’t do that. The school buys all the supplies as to keep the classroom equitable for every student regardless of their family’s abilities. Our school just requests that a water bottle and backpack are brought, but if a student doesn’t have those they will provide them with ones. It’s nice that families struggling don’t have to add that expense to their budgets, but at the same time it takes kind of the fun out of showing up with all your new notebooks and pencils. We still buy stuff for at home. But a lot isn’t taken into school, because if it’s deemed a “distraction” it will be sent home. And often time extras from home don’t fit in their desks anyways. I know in middle level they have so many more notebooks and books, so pencil sharpeners, fun erasers, markers or colored pencils, etc just won’t fit in the desk and it will be sent home because it will noticeably slow them down between lessons if their desks arent super organized and/or messy. I’m torn. I like the fun stuff and creativity showing in your supplies, but being equitable and efficient is important too. It’s interesting seeing what other families are doing for back to school.
