A lot of people can’t afford to start with a full frame camera....and you don’t NEED one, it’s nice to have yes.
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography 5 лет назад
It really depends on what kind of photography you are doing. For this video we addressed wedding photographers and in that case I COMPLETELY disagree. Most of our weddings are at night and crop sensor cameras can't handle that high of ISO and give you a good quality image. In addition, most wedding photographers who start with a crop sensor camera eventually upgrade to a full sensor camera. By the time they do that, they have spent $500-$1000 more than they should have. A good used full frame camera will cost you just under $1K so if you spend just a little more you can get a camera that will last you a long time. The crop sensor camera in the beginning of my wedding career actually hurt me and my business more than it helped. Long and short you can go cheap and pay more or get the right equipment and start off right. So for these reasons I say you NEED one. Also, we have started to get brides asking about our equipment and asking if we shoot with a full frame camera, they have even said they walk out on photographers that don't have a full frame camera. Hope this makes sense and if you have further questions please let me know.

Great video Meredith. I think one of the most important things you brought up is quality over price - in the end, cheap products usually end up costing so much more than buying quality in the first place. My favorite piece of equipment is my 400mm, f2,8 Canon lens.

If I can chirp in here. A 16gb card isn’t such a bad idea, especially when some cards might start playing up. Having all ones real estate on one 64gb card is a little risky in my mind.
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography 5 лет назад
We completely agree... we know some people use cameras that the files are so large a 16gb card only holds about 200 images. Considering we shoot close to 2000 in a average wedding, changing your cards that often can get tedious. Very good point.

(1:05) Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with that first point. You absolutely do not need a full frame camera. There are a myriad of photographers that are successful using APS-C cameras, Fuji immediately comes to mind. Even Micro Four Thirds, particularly the OMD E-M1 series, or the Lumix G9. The only two lenses one would need all day, are the Leica Nocticron 42.5mm/1.2, and the M.Zuiko Pro 17mm/1.2. Technology will not make someone a talented photographer, however, a talented photographer can take amazing photos with a smartphone... Good points until you have to print a large print or take pictures in a dark cellar with no windows. We experienced this situation a few times so we agree to disagree.
@superzero4250
@superzero4250 2 года назад
@@MeredithRyncarzPhotography A dark cellar, though an interesting choice of location, should require a simple lighting set up, and any good camera should suffice. After all, photography at its basic element is the crafting or manipulation of light. Thus the photographer becomes the artist, otherwise, one is simply recording a moment in time which would make one a photo journalist. As for Large Prints: Here are some relatively short example videos that deal with the issue well enough… Printing big from Micro Four Thirds. @MeredithRyncarzPhotography
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography 2 года назад
@@superzero4250 the cellar was a wine cellar that did not allow floor stands so I could only use one on-camera flash and they would not allow more than one photographer in at a time. Very difficult even with a full sensor as there were no windows and only an exit sign In regards to printing, I can tell the difference when I print large which is a big thing for me. Some of my clients can't tell but I never want to take that chance. It only happened to me once when I was using a crop sensor but once is enough. Lastly, crop sensors have come a long way in the past decade. They are almost on par with full-frame cameras but in low light situations, I have found on a wedding day, full-frame tends to give me better low light capabilities. When you get down to it now, it really just depends on what you need the camera for as to what sensor is required.

Well I can only afford a d610 and 50mm or a d7200 and sigma 17 to 50. Can't shoot weddings with just 50mm, and a zoom lens would be more perfect for getting far away stuff without missing the shot in the moment you're moving around to get it. Plus d7200 has better af. Dilemma Dilemma.
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography
@MeredithRyncarzPhotography 2 года назад
That is a tough one... I would consider the zoom. If I only had one lens on a wedding day I would probably have a 24-70. I can get my wide angle and some close ups. Its not ideal but its better than shooting the whole day at just 50mm.
