Very nice. I’ve added a ketchum release and a hook sharpener. These are great little packs. The Loon rogue mitten scissor clamps are the best I’ve found. Had some of those shortys and found them a little difficult to work with size xl hands.

I use a NutSac ManBagDammit EDC bag which is much larger than that little pouch. Strap over my right shoulder so it rides on my left out of the way of my rod hand. Holds all my stuff like multiple fly boxes, lines, tippet, float gel, all neatly arranged along with a bandana, phone, keys, wallet, license, Leatherman Micra, pair of forceps, a Buck 112, small fero rod, a Zippo lighter, pack of Marlboro 72's, and with room leftover for a cheese and jalapeno sandwich, a tin of Nuri sardines, Japanese chopsticks, a small flask of Hornitos tequila, and with room to spare. On the outside I have attached to the d rings of the strap a connector for my Dragontail small tenkara style net, and a zinger for a Ketchum release tool. I have a cheapness pair of nippers that have a hook sharpener and needle that I hang around my neck on an old fly line. On another note, my favorite tenkara fly is not tenkara at all. A size 16 or 18 floating Griffith's Gnat. I've caught fish with tenkara style flies but that little fly catches everything from trout to bluegills. It was a total smoke show for grayling in Alaska. Okay. I'm out of breath now. Love your videos long time! Mahalo!

I moved to Northern Utah three years ago and have been enjoying the outdoor activities. Mainly camping and lake fishing. Tried some streams but much luck with the poles I use. Thought of Fly fishing and once I saved up enough bought myself an Orvis fly rod setup in November. I didn't get to use it do to work so it just sat in my room. Started thinking of taking it out and was browsing around how to videos when I came across yours. After watching these I am conviced I will do much more Tenkara fishing than Western Fly fishing. From reading your website, you say you are pretty new to this and I was wondering, do you have any pointers to tell newbies like me that could save them money and time? Techniques? First timer Equipment? Type of stream or rivers to hit up first to practice in?

The Nissin Oni lvl line is definitely the brightest I’ve been able to find. The difference after I moved from Dragontail’s brand was night and day. So much easier for me to see.

Same experience here. I bought one spool of the Dragontail stuff, made a bunch of lines out of it, and then stopped using it once I realized how much harder it was to see.

I'm currently setting up a similar pack. I intend to attach the pouch to a tenkara tube sling. My thoughts are the tube being straight will stop the pouch from swinging down.

I know im splitting hairs over here, but could or anyone give suggestions why the yonah simple pack would be better than the zimmerbuilt strap pack? to the point of costing $20 more? I know there are some design differences but would love to get some feedback. I only plan to make once purchase as I dont get out as often as id like to so Im sure this will be lasting a loonng time. Cool little pack! Been watching some of your vids solely for entertainment, im now beginning to be interested in tenkara. I currently do the majority of trout fishing with spinning gear, I have two fly rods but have found that fly fishing doesn't really fit my minimalist ways....tenkara however may be perfect, now I have a quick question, what is the difference in a level line and a furreled leader?

I've used it with the Tiny Ten, the FoxFire, and the Shimotsuke Kiyotaki 180. I use about a foot and a half of tippet with it. I use it for the tightest of tight streams, the ones that really only allow bow and arrow casting into tight holes.

I noticed you have several different lengths of level line on your spools. When would you use for example a 5 foot line versus an 11 foot line or 13 foot line?. By the way, that might make a good video. I love your videos. And I think I’ve purchased Just about every color of yarn that you sell. Amazing. Thank you.
@TenkaraAddict

I'd use a 5 ft line on a tiny, overgrown creek where I'm only doing bow and arrow casting and a 13 ft line on a river where there are no casting limitations. Thanks for buying the yarn!

@@TenkaraAddict Got it. It seemed a while back, maybe a year or two ago, you were kind of partial to the Idaho Killer kebari and Utah Killer kebari. But I'm guessing it's all about placement and presentation. You are definitely, from what I have seen, the modern reigning king of Tenkara. I dont have the means to get in as much travel as you do but I do hope to someday be able to work a river or stream like you. I know you're a humble guy, but you have gotten really good. And thank you for always replying, I could imagine you're a pretty busy guy. Alaska is still in the works I hope.

Ok where do I start? I've been a trout fisherman my entire life. I've had amazing luck including a 13 lb rainbow caught on a 7x tippet ie 2lb test line. The problem I've had is everyone always asks bout my bass fishing since obviously that's much more of a challenge. My response has always been I'd probably be a bass fisherman if I could afford a boat. Well guess what, I got a stimulus check and said why not and got a boat. To be honest I had a bit of trouble transitioning I mean I knew nothing about bass. But in the end I started catching bass. I've spent so much on rods reals lures etc and spent almost every day on the lake. In the end I had a blast,bass fishing is awesome. I gave it an entire year focusing on the lake and the bass. I loved it but dangit I missed the trout streams. Lake fishing is well on a lake. Trout fishing is or can be on a high mountain stream you just hiked to a amazing day without the fish. To say bass take more skill and finesse is simply not true. In my opinion being able to stalk a trout in low water with a ultra lite rod is akin to elk hunting or turkey. I feel it takes skill unheard of to finally get that fish to take. So many factors to think about not the least of which is just not being located. Bass you have your endless lures your fishfinders your technology. Trout you get back to nature with a pocket sized kit and a tenkura rod and dangit I might just love it better.
@TenkaraAddict
@TenkaraAddict 2 года назад
Is bass fishing supposed to be more of a challenge? I have no idea. I don't bass fish. But you should definitely try out tenkara. It's a lot of fun!

I will use that line card system! What a space making idea! You continue to demonstrate minimalist....endeavors. Gear-less. I remember when you found those forceps! They were hanging on a branch, evidently they got snatched off another fisherman. Person. Angler. So I wouldn't get too attached to 'em. Just say'n...😁.
