Thanks so much for the kind words and support, I really appreciate it! It’s been a pretty slow burn with growth around here but really happy with our little community, we’ve always got a great group of people in the comments.

I used to use a sea to summit lightweight towel and I used it for about 2 years before it no longer worked and started to smell all the time. I switch to a Turkish cotton towel about 5 years ago and I will never look back. Way better absorption. It doesn't stick to your skin and it still dries really quickly. I use it everyday, not just for travel.

I’ve heard so many great things about the Turkish towels, definitely need to try one

Great gear and great presentaion from Josh BUT for us in Europe the US ‘adventure’ outdoor clothing is really not an option. First:none of the clothes/brands are on sale in Europe and second: if we import them from the US we pay heavy taxes and import duty. Yes, jealous of the great US gear and the US leads the way. We do not have many sites on YT with European quality gear. It is a pity. No blame on Josh - I look on in envy.
@joshfenn

Such a bummer that this is the case, I’ve been wracking my brain for a while trying to figure out some way to include stuff that everyone has access to - hopefully I’ll figure it out someday. I’ve got some European brands in the mix from time to time but maybe I’ll research a few more options and see what I can come up with
@mikej243
@mikej243 6 месяцев назад
Europe is the birthplace of hardcore climbing. Visit any climbing associated shop in Europe and they will likely carry your ‘adventure’ stuff because climbers and alpinists demand it. Black Diamond sell durable equipment, prAna has comfortable fabrics, Patagonia has ultralight gear; many shops will atleast try to stock these essential brands. These things can also be purchased second hand and discounted because their performance lasts beyond the first owner.

Search for a reputable and affordable freight forwarder/shipping company in your country that ships from US. Use their service. Im sure its cheaper than buying then shipping it direct from US or anywhere. It might be slower since what they do is ship stuff in bulk (your item plus everyone elses) but its cheaper alternative than paying custom tax.

Thanks for the videos Josh! every couple months I have anxiety over my travel gear as I basically live out of my suitcase and duffel bag so it gets very hard to keep to the basics but your videos always give me hope haha. Keep up the good work!

I always include am Amazon essentials moisture wicking lightweight hoodie that has a sun block 50 rating. It oddly keeps you both cool and warm. Mine does not have the Kangaroo or secret pockets...So Jealous of course. btw....I live for that moment in the videos that the Paper white kindle reader appears! I am really interested in the travel router now that you have featured it twice. I do not travel as much as I used to do.... But it makes so much sense. i followed your lead on the Toothpaste tablets. I really do like using them, on the road or not. Another good video Josh.

I had been using the REI Sahara sun hoodie for a couple of years before this one, really nice to have the extra features! The paper white is still going for me, I’ll upgrade to the new one at some point but just can’t justify replacing this one. Curious how much longer it’ll last! Thanks for the kind words and support as usual, I appreciate it!

Great info on the TSA max output for chargers, I didn't know there was one. I travel with Darn Tough socks. Can't beat the Warranty. I always put a small flood flashlight in my bag in case I have to rummage through in flight. An in depth on the Anker products would be welcome.
@joshfenn
@joshfenn 6 месяцев назад
TSA doesn’t seem to enforce it much from what I can tell, but always good info to know to avoid having an expensive battery confiscated. Darn tough’s have been great to me but checking out some alternatives has been nice, I’ve been really happy with the WORN socks too so far

Love your videos friend, keep up the great content! I use the Sand Cloud Turkish towels and find they don't need to take up as much space as you'd think. When I take them out and about, I usually fold them maybe twice or three times? They lay pretty flat so I would have it on the bottom of my main travel bag. I've never been in a position (yet) where I haven't been able to add a bit of wiggle room in my bag. Though I will admit, depending on the size of your bag, if you start to fold it even more then the thickness does start to build up to get to the smaller dimensions.

Thanks for the info, Josh… curious about the two hoodies, though.im guessing one would do double duty, freeing up space for something else. My vote is always for a UL puffy, or a hat and neck gaiter. Your thinking?
@joshfenn
@joshfenn 6 месяцев назад
The loggerhead hoodie is more of a t-shirt with long sleeves and a hood, more for sun protection in place of a t shirt instead of providing additional warmth. If the temps were cold enough I’d definitely go with a UL puffy, but the paka hoodie + rain shell covers a pretty broad range for mild weather. Always just depends on the trip for me! Always have an active mid-layer and puffy for wilderness backpacking but pivot around depending on the trip for regular travel

I've owned two Henley shirts and and button down from woolly. I love the feel , but the tears ended up running pretty aggressively. Currently got a duckworth long sleeve Henley and it's been by go to sun shirt with knit it's very breathable , but the feel isn't anywhere near as soft .
@joshfenn
@joshfenn 6 месяцев назад
That’s a bummer to hear about the tears! I can definitely see the possibility with the looser knit style of it compared to some of my other merino shirts though. Haven’t tried duckworth but I’ll have to take a look! Might be worth checking out proof or unbound for you too, even softer/silkier than the woolly but a much tighter knit - you probably wouldn’t have any issues with them

Great video! I’m curious to hear your thoughts on runners vs good year welt boots for travelling. I almost only wear boots nowadays but after a week long trip of walking in Montreal my legs were tired. I might have to ditch boots all together for a pair of sneakers.
@joshfenn
@joshfenn 6 месяцев назад
The boot purists definitely won’t agree with me, but I’m generally going towards trail runners or sneakers for most travel. I’ll do boots only for winter trips but with comfort and convenience in mind sneakers tend to work better for me.

Do you carry any sort of flashlight? I’ve always found either a flashlight or small AA or AAA headlamp handy. Especially if it is the right angle type. Also, any t shirt suggestions for those of us who are allergic to wool?
@joshfenn
@joshfenn 6 месяцев назад
I probably should have carved out more time to discuss in the video, but I do still have my usual edc items (minus blades) for traveling so a flashlight is generally with me. Always nice to have! Tough break on the wool allergy, I used to be when I was a kid but grew out of it in time but developed a ton of other stupid allergies haha. Synthetics and sink laundry would probably be the way to go, or I’d check into tencel. Not sure if they make tencel tshirts but the fabric is incredible - I have a set of bed sheets and a Henley with it.

Interesting to hear you can edit 4k. I got an m1 mini and Mac Pro when they came out and even though everyone said it would do it I was never able to edit 4k, let alone 6k. Any kind of aftereffect in da Vinci would crash the m1….especially denoise. Also shoutout OG Kindle. Mine is also 10+ years old.
@joshfenn
@joshfenn 5 месяцев назад
Fellow old kindle owner, I love it! My wife has the newer model and it looks great, but I might just be stubborn enough to see how many more years I get out of this one before upgrading. The 4k editing is as painless as possible, still blows my mind after a few months. Feels like cutting 240p or something, zero hesitation with my a7IV footage. I have a (non max or pro) m1 Mac mini as a server computer, it does get a bit stressed transcoding 4k for my Plex library but I expected it somewhat for the standard chip instead of the pro or max.

Darn Tuff blends seem to make them too sweaty vs socks w more Merino in them. Always surprising to read/hear how many ppl wear them then tell you about their bluster managdmdnt systems. 😂😂. Better socks exist. Nice to see you exploring othervoptiins. Japanese Tengui towels are great to travel eith as an option.
