Vikings carried all kinds of tools, equipment, and snacks with them when they were out an about, just like us!
Thinking of putting together a Viking impression? Have a look inside my bag and see what everyday items a Viking might carry around.

Very fun! What I've got in my bag is a trusty knife, some sewing tools (in case repairs are needed), a wax tablet, a light shawl, and often a little snack like a boiled egg.

Having found you during Cocovid and watching back through your older stuff, I really love this style! The Viking impression but with modern language and slang is such a fun juxtaposition. Would love some more of it!

Oh dear me. I’ve stalked your entire collection of videos and will have to wait now for ye old videos yet to come! Keep ‘em coming! Hmmm... will you be joining the You Tubers who teach us how to make historical clothing? Modeling the newest (oldest?) in medieval cloaks? Or tell us more fun facts and stories from all of your years of research? You can go anywhere you want to and it will be brilliant! (I almost said, “awesome” which would have notified you that I’m American.) 😁

My god, that chocolate reminds me of the coins we tried to eat on the minibus back from York some years ago. I don't know what they even were originally (not chocolate?), but they tasted kind of like wet leather smells.

A wooden or horn spoon, some leather thong, a bone needle, some linen thread, a jaw harp, and a licorice root. My knife is on my belt and I have a small pouch with my flint, and amadou. The steel is on a cord and hung on the belt next to the pouch. Sax is on a separate belt, usually behind my back but sometimes across my lap

I'm not surprised that the chocolate was a bit stale. I mean 'authentic viking chocolate' would make it at least 1000 years old. Just a bit over the best before date. Thought that I'd make my way through some of your first videos to make sure that I've seen them all. Thanks, Jimmy.

Serves you right, the taste of old chocolate! I wonder just how much better this video would have been if one of those sparks had caught something... this is where the old chocolate retribution comes in. That is a particularly fine knife and sheath.

I have a cup, a wooden plate, iron cutlery and a linen napkin for lunchtime, firesteel, flint and tinder for a camp fire (and yes, sometimes I use them to make fire), a Jorvik pan flute, a comb and spare fibulas. I store everything in my cotton shoulder bag... By the way... is there any evidence for shoulder bags in viking age (probably made from linen or wool)?
@marastuff9256
@marastuff9256 3 года назад
I have met soooo many people carrying flint and steel ... i have never ever seen anyone use them. Just never. When ever i ask them about it they show me how well they can do the sparks. I must have been misinformed about fire making part since apparently apparently making sparks is the primary use
@TheWelshViking
@TheWelshViking 3 года назад
Spot on! The flint striking the steel makes a spark, which you then catch in tinder, then when that’s lit and glowing you can put fuel on it. Used to be a tough task, fire lighting!
@marastuff9256
@marastuff9256 3 года назад
@@TheWelshViking I actually made some tinder, the one that is made from mushroom because those people used to tell me they didn't have any tinder and that's why they didn't do more than the sparks and i thought o well then i shall carry the other half of the fire making-kit but up to this day no fire has been lit in my presence. Sooo ... its really just a fancy accessory isn't it?
