In this episode, we'll take a look at the actions I like to keep in my primary toolbar in REAPER.

Thanks Myk. Some very useful tools you've highlighted! I do wonder if I'll be able to remember the meaning of all those buttons if I don't use them for a while. I don't mix all day every day, nowhere near it. In fact, I have made a custom editing toolbar, but can't remember off hand what buttons I created or what they all mean. So many options, so little time........ Maybe that's a good selection criterion: If I can't remember what a button does and it is not directly obvious after trying it once: get rid of it.

I don't mess with the toolbar as much. I just learn (or assign) hotkeys. I like that cue mix action though. 🙂

My problem is I want to use the same hotkey for a few things 😂 so the toolbar is helpful for me to not have to bind non-intuitive key presses to some things

there're native actions Move time selection by time selection length they've been there since as late as the last v5 releases, Lokasenna's scripts are older there're native normalization actions now as well

That combined with the web remote so the performer can control his or her own mix is fantastic

@@LetsTalkAboutReaper agreed. I use the web remote from my phone when self-recording drums because my mix room is upstairs and the drums are in the living room downstairs. Saves a lot of stair climbing!

Great job. I will have to try a couple of those toolbar buttons out. The solo with the dim was really interesting and I know I could find a use for that. Also what theme is that you are using there?

The theme is LCS Flat 6

@@LetsTalkAboutReaper Thanks, but it was different than the one that you have. I found out that the one you are using is the LCS Custom-R6 version. I like how it isn't too much different from the stock V6 default theme so I don't get too lost. Many themes I have seen/tried look great but I'm lost on what button is what on some of them and always switch back to the default I find.

A tangential question: I notice that you have markers aligned exactly with your region start points - which is exactly the way I want to work. Is there an action to quickly set up regions from a list of markers, but also keep the markers? I have seen an action to convert from markers to the regions but it removes the markers as part of that process, and that's not ideal for me - I want both.

I do it manually. I tend to add the markers first just to be able to use shortcut keys to jump to the markers. After I am happy with the placement of the markers, I double-click the space between markers to create a time selection, then press Shift+R to create a region from the time selection. I checked ReaPack this morning and didn't see an action to automatically create regions between markers but it may have been due to my search filter. You got me curious to go looking though. Lemme see what i can find.

I found a script that "kinda" works in ReaPack. Script: cfillion_Insert regions at markers and vice versa in time selection. This will create regions between markers. In my testing, it worked even without a time selection to affect a whole project. Not perfect but definitely faster than manually making all the regions.

there's options to dock a toolbar and change its position in the right click menu. if you have trouble with it, hop on Discord where we can share some screenshots and help get it sorted.

Something weird was happening with the ducking of your background music. The level came up when you solo'd the bass track.

Yes. There are a couple of options for scripting I found os.execute And reaper.ExecProcess I've never used them, though. I'd recommend hopping on my Discord and checking in with the folks who hang out in the Scripting section for more assistance with this one
