Excellent, I repeat EXCELLENT vid. I was looking for days for a vid that explained fully the Milwaukee M12 battery. I guess RU-vid’s algorithm jumps your channel. I had 2 old M12’s in a case of a tool I haven’t used in years. After making all the checks you described and all checked out the batteries still wouldn’t charge. I then charged the batteries with a NOCO 2 charger. Walahhh! They now charge. It should be noted that the charger recognizes both under and over voltage and won’t charge if either presents itself. Keep up the good work. Oh.....your vid sound quality on this vid could be better.

Is it possible to take one of those apart and solder a 12v cigarette lead to it to make a m12 air compressor corded for extended use
@jo9732

Would you consider taking apart a cheapo knock off battery for m12? The cost delta is so much I just have to try one for those batteries for low draw items like a screwdriver.

I have a couple 4 and 6ah milwaukee m12's and one of my 4ah decided to unbalance the crap out of a cell and wouldnt charge in 2 different chargers. it was flat (i mainly use it with the m12 soldering iron that chews up battery power for sure), Cell cluster 1 and 2 were both reading around 3.8v but cell cluster 3 was down to about 2.8v....... Any ideas how it became so unbalanced? I use a milwaukee m12/m18 fast charger, is it the charger? (i also have a standard m12 only charger lying around i could use instead, charge time doesn't really bother me, i've got enough packs), do the fast chargers potentially cause unbalance's in cells due to ....fast charging? I thought maybe bad cells but what are the chances multiple cells in that "cluster" on pole 3 going bad (as opposed to a single cell in that cluster dragging it down). Non the less, too fix it i used my fancy RC Helicopter IMax X400 battery charger, split the pack open (stupid simple for those bigger packs too, 4 screws and its done), attached it to the individual cell cluster that was down, selected Li-ion mode/single cell mode and bumped the voltage of that 1 cluster up to 3.8v also. Then hooked them up to the balance lead port and balanced all 3 cell clusters up to a bit under 4.08v, put back together and let the milwuakee charger finish it off. Will keep an eye on the pack over the coming week and see if that cell unbalances its self again

Thx for the video. I have a M12 compressor in my car, but I don't always carry M12 batteries. I'm trying to rig up 12v cigarette plug for emergencies. I can get spade terminals on the pos+ and neg- terminals of the compressor fine, but do you know how I can mimic the Temp "T" connection?
@Z3DZ3R0
@Z3DZ3R0 Год назад
Doesn't the compressor work without the "T" connection? What do you mean mimic? The temp connection is just a thermistor (a resistor that changes its resistance according to the temperature). You can find the nominal resistance at room temperature and put a resistance at the same value there as a bridge. I think 10kOhm resistor is used in by Milwaukee. Not all brands use the same. I think Bosch uses 6kOhm. If you do this be aware that you don't have any overheating safety, and need to monitor the temp by yourself. I saw this in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nd4fHFHj9AU.html

Good first vid there Shadow. I liked your idea of taking a blown up pic of the battery connections and pointing out what you were testing. It made it so much easier to follow along. Were you using a smart phone for the vid, and how did you get that overhead shot if I may ask? I'm re-shooting my shop tour then try and figure out how to upload it properly, lol. Thanks for sharing. Cheers mate.
@shadowzedge5793

@William Logan - For the video I used my GoPro Hero 5 Black but I did use my phone to control it as I couldn't see the screen. And for the overhead shot I used a clamp and various extensions to attach it to the camera.

@@shadowzedge5793 Sounds like you have your ducks in a row. I suppose that's the engineer in you eh, lol. I'm still on the fence about purchasing either new smart phone (since I only have a 5 year old flip phone for emergencies) or purchasing a new camera for vids. I can't afford to do both. Right now I'm using an old Canon Vixia HF M31 camcorder and the vid quality is kinda grainy. So, one step at a time.

Searching for this battery I can't tell if it got the seamless case with a screw in the bottom or the clipped version where you have to brake the clips. Is there any chance to identify those different case Versions. Because of the high premium costs I want to upgrade them with some Sony US18650VTC6 for better performance by my own.

If they are following suit as the CP batteries they have the same PCB but double the cells for a 3S2P set up. I just recently acquired a XC 6.0 and will be taking it apart to find out what's inside it. When I do I'll tag you in the next video. 😁

If there's nothing then why doesn't milwaukee make barrel style. Or can i take 1.5ah battery bottom and put them on a (3.0ah, 4.0ah or 6.0ah) pancake / flat bottom style batteries. Let us know. @johncoops6897
@johncoops6897 3 года назад
@@magicmanspaz - Ahhh, sorry that wasn't very clear to me. Here is a teardown and upgrade of the 2.5A version that I found with a simple 1 second search on RU-vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XuZp9w5CwG0.html He reckons that the 2.5Ah gadget contains a Samsung INR18650-25R cell - for THIS application you don't actually need an expensive "high-current" LG cell like he chooses, and you could use anything with sufficient current capacity like one of the 3500mAh 10A cells from various companies. The technical aspects that you need to understand are as follows. The USB device is rated for 5V 2.1A output, which is 10.5 Watts. Let's say that the BMS has the under-voltage cutoff set for a conservative but realistic 3.0V. Now let's assume that the internal boost converter has 75% efficiency at it's lowest input voltage (3V), so that means the input power from the cell is 10.5W / 0.75% = 14W. Therefore, the maximum current drawn will be 14V / 3.0V = 4.67A. So, any 18650 that is rated higher than about 5A continuous is suitable, a bit higher would extend cell life. So, any 10A Continuous cell would be OK, since this is a far less demanding application than what's needed for power tool packs.

is it safe to open a battery without discharging it?
@johncoops6897

Of course, the danger is when you short circuit what's inside. You cannot "discharge" lithium batteries anyway... doing that will literally destroy them, and they will never work again.
