I actually understand what the coach meant. In life you guys haven't lost enough or had to deal with losing. Basically you haven't dealt with adversity enough, but with this out of context quote it sounds bad.
@@mattk8810 I'm not sure his point was to accept it. His point may have been that they're not use to losing, so they're handling it poorly. You can lose and still be dignified and show resolve. As someone said, this sounds like it was out of context.
In the wise words of warren sapp from Tampa. " You wanna go party, u can go to Miami. Got the kids with you? Lets go to orlando go to disney. Or we could stay in Tampa and go out to eat. Florida is the best, whats not to like"
It's not often that an offensive lineman gets much credit. Once he got past the idea of being part of a losing franchise, it must have been kind of cool to be consistently recognized as the best player on the team.
when it comes to gambling, i think losing is like 10x more powerful. i could win 500 bucks (a decent amount of money to me) and forget about it by the next morning. i lose 500 bucks and it haunts me for a week.
As a Dolphins fan, I’m with the rebuild but we have to win at least one game. Don’t want to be apart of the 0-16 family. Although two 1-15 seasons is pretty lame as well
Who cares. Secure the first Pick. (Browns Fan here) no shame in it. Other teams are not to far off from you guys. You win one you’ll end up winning another and screw yourself out of the top pick
Also a Phins fan. I think we'll be a force to be reckoned with with Flores after this tank year. 2021 will be nice. Can't wait to see what Williams and Gesicki can do with a solid offense and more years under their belts
@47 47 Considering I'm 36 and I'd likely be rich and retired by now....I'd get over it pretty quick. Instead I have to work another 30 plus years...yeah...so much better and TOTALLY NOT depressing lol
@MewTheWild Yes, they are absolutely competitive. Well most of them probably are anyway. But if you think for one second, more than 1% of them would still play if the pay was 100k or less a year you're outta yo mind.
If I made it to the NFL and I was signed a decent contract I wouldn’t care if I went to the 2016 Browns, or the Jets, or even the dolphins id be grateful because I’d be making millions
I live in the UK, they showed the colts pretty much every week on channel 4. They probably thought they had Manning they'll be good, he got injured. I had to watch Painter and who ever the colts rolled out.
Was part of a lot of teams in baseball and football where we were not that good and alot of players didn't have the same emotion when we lost as I did and that was super frustrating culture to be apart of. They would always hang out, drink and all that after games and I was like we just LOST the game I really don't feel like doing anything. At that point practice becomes pointless.
Probably wont see this BUT im a big fan of the podcast listen everyday at work on pandora (normally on the day after). Keep up the great work! Maybe talk some Philly for me? Appreciate you getting me through the grind. Podcast fantasy Mock draft in the future?
Another thing dealing with Miami is this. Are you going to lose everyone that you did have bc of the way your trying to build. Does everything your losing outweigh what you'll actually gain.. I mean the way their going about it, is pushing what they did have away! So is this ultimately going to be a botched rebuild regardless?! The way its going they aren't going have anything left to add too. It's a complete tear down and restart..And that would take alot of losing for a long time. I don't see them attracting any good Free Agents the way this thing looks.. especially from the outside looking in.
in most and the best soccer leagues around the world, the bottom team or teams get demoted to a lower division if they finish last at the end of the season. I wish the NFL had this too, because at some point the worst teams dont even try anymore just to get that number 1 pick or close to it. or at least do away with the salary cap if you plan to give the best picks to the worst teams.
I'm from central Europe and I hate the way soccer leagues work. Yeah, the fight for not going down a league is exciting, but I'd rather have a competitive league where more than a maximum of 4 teams could win the championship. In the NFL there are about 6 teams that could maybe win the Superbowl this year. If I watch soccer, I know either Bayern or Dortmund will win the German league again. Top heavy leagues are more interesting to watch long term
@@Dominik.S. A league is more than just "who will win it" though. Clubs trying to avoid relegation means that they scrap for points in every game. Which leads to amazing upsets etc and makes the end of the season exciting at the bottom as well as the top.
@To Release is To Resolve You would make it two divisions of 16 teams. Then a series of relegation/promotion playoffs at the bottom alongside the Superbowl playoffs at the top. Removes the ability to tank a season because it'll lead to you dropping out of the top division. You'd also need to restructure the draft somehow.
@To Release is To Resolve like Oxcart pointed out, the league would have to be structured differently it they were to implement relegation. Divide the league, create new teams, etc. If football is as popular as the tv ratings say, then there will be enough people to create more teams in more cities. I just dont like that the worst teams get rewarded the best draft picks. Or imagine coming out of a powerhouse college team just to play for the Browns or the Lions. Talk about dreams crushed, hehe. There is no perfect league, as Erd Nuss described how you get a two-horse race in certain soccer leagues, but I am against the idea of rewarding bad teams. There is no incentive for the team owner to change his team, and the fans suffer in the end.
I do not know the intonation from that coach, but out of context, I understand his point. When trying to get better a something, NORMAL people lose and lose a lot and learn from mistakes and overcome adversity. I understand what Pat is saying and you should not just accept being a loser or think it is okay, but if you do not know how to handle losing... how to bounce back, learn, and improve... then he is right. You haven't lost enough to know what it is like. You haven't lost enough to appreciate when you win. You haven't lost enough to understand what is at stake. You haven't lost enough. I have. I play different games competitively. I have lost a lot of Madden. I have also been a champion. I have my name in the credits of Madden 2011. I play Magic: the Gathering. I have lost a lot. I have also won Grand Prix, qualified for nationals and the old pro tour, which stands for promotional, not professional. I never gave up and learned and fought and improved. I also coach and play American football in South America with adults. I have lost reps. I have lost games. However, we have also won every league championship but one. We have won games against other South American teams and our mini tournaments we hold in Feb the last three years. We also got our asses smoked by Mexico and Chile. We did not give up. We trained and got better. So... without context and intonation, maybe the coach was right. You had not lost enough.
everything Pat McAfee says about winning is so damn true. Having been on losing teams my entire time playing football and never having to win more than 4 games. yeah... everyone shits on each other and the environment is toxic. that's when i decided to stop playing.
This is why the nfl should adopt the draft lottery system. You got all these teams tanking for early first round picks. If those pick aren’t guaranteed then we’ll see these teams actually trying to compete.
Not sure how I feel about the draft lottery system. Like in the NBA a small market team the Pelicans lost Anthony Davis in a trade and then magically get the first pick to get Zion Williamson. Seemed a little fishy to me lol.
I play on a high school team that has only won one game in the past two years and that locker room vibe of people being used to losing is true and it hurts the team tremendously especially when ur extremely competitive and trying ur ass off to win and yet people on the team don’t mind losing it hurts inside and u feel Liek not even playing for that team anymore
What a difference 1 year can make, Flores took Miami from worst to really good in just one year. Next year it will jump up another rung on the NFL ladder. Miami is back, and it's back winning with all new, very young talent that is playing together as a real team and that is so much better to watch than a team with super stars on it, they have a bad day or het hurt and then the game is lost but when the team is playing together, helping the team win each weak, then you always have a chance to win. I would take a team of no names that plays together over a team that has a few super stars any day.
Sucking in a cold weather northern city with an open air stadium has to be the worst. Cleveland, Cincy, Chicago, Buffalo. Winning is way better if you play in these cities.
raxmarrone I do think that there is definitely a problem with the average “sore loser” mindset though. If it’s not done right, you’ll have dirty play or some sort of over-emotional response. Like the Steelers. Or Vontaze Burfict lol
Imagine being the best player in you Pop Warner, High School, possibly College teams and now you're on the practice squad for the Miami Dolphins this season? It takes a lot of mental toughness and passion to be an NFL player
I’ve followed Pat for awhile and started when I was an avid colts hater living in Indiana and all as a shitty dolphins fan.. seeing him blowing up makes me want to be a hater just for fun, but.. I fucking love this guy.
This was an older clip but if your going to have a show Pat, you need to do your research. Brian Flores is a straight shooter. He demands the most from his players. He continuously talks about improving and getting better each week. He's a players Coach and his players give everything they have. From 0-7 to 5-11 and two of those losses were by one point. They could have easily been 7-9 with a play here or a play there. They went 5-4 there last 9 games. They didn't Tank. The Dolphins have a really good young Coach who is a perfect fit for what they are trying to do.
I think the Browns and Lions are the biggest jobbers, but the Dolphins are getting there. I wonder how they decide which jobbers get close, but are paid to choke big time. Like the Vikings, Panthers, Falcons and Chiefs.
@@SouthernSkeptic Its called being a jobber to the stars, Teams with no rings that somehow manage to find a way to choke in the big moment. Eagles used to be this team
@ThePatMcAfeeShow Bert Kreischer just said that if given a month he could hit a 38 yard field goal, he just bet Bill Burr, and he wants you there.. Make This Happen!!!
My brother is a die hard Dolphins fan, since he was like 6. We grew up in Western New York, too, making it doubly strange. (GO BILLS.) As kids, he had a teddy bear he named Dan Bearino. It's fun to talk football with him, because of course he's down this year, but he's also already looking forward to 2020 and 2021. There's always hope when you have multiple first round picks multiple years in a row... and Brady can't play until he's 50, can he?
whoa whoa whoaaaa....Joe Thomas had every opportunity to go somewhere else. He clearly chose to stay with the Browns which is another character discussion all together.
Barry sanders must of really been calling teammates out. He was so tired of being so great and detroit so bad he retired when he had 5 more seasons in him. Thats y i say he is the best rb by far. No rb cant or will put up his numbers if they played with a team like he had.
If you're a good player and you were hoping to get to the Super Bowl probably sucks. But you're borderline player it's probably okay because you have a chance to play when have a better team and I have a chance. Also basically it's like an audition for free agency.
