Thank you for doing this. I have an anxiety disorder and tomorrow I'm going for my first covid test because I was recently exposed to someone with covid. My anxiety levels are going nuts, and it's a HUUUUUGE help to have a visual in my head of how the process will go. Thank you!
@@cielo4242 You will get your results 3-7 days of you DO NOT get the rapid test. If you get the rapid test it’s 1-3 days. Hope this helped and all goes well 😊
This doesn't seem as bad as the other tests I've seen where they shove it down through your nostrils to your damn throat. That gave me anxiety just watching it. I wouldn't mind taking a test such as this one.
Thanks, Ethan! Your video de-mystifies the process and it doesn't sound that bad. I feel sorry for folks who had an earlier test; they were more uncomfortable - : 0
I just did mine. You do NOT have to stick it in all the way to the back of your nose. You only stick it in like an inch, just like the man in the video did. It made me sneeze like 6 times and it was uncomfortable, but a lot better than I thought it would be. My CVS gave me everything in a brown paper bag that I threw away afterwards. They called me on my phone to walk me through the process. It was really nice.
Alloverdaplace you don’t have to go in deep at all, that’s the point. I got this test and you do it yourself to keep it from hurting! It was super easy
Typically self swabs are anterior nares which are only required to be inserted half an inch for 10 seconds on each side. Plenty adequate according to the CDC.
At my CVS Test, they gave me an actual Brown Bag with all the materials so I didn’t have to give them back a basket... Also Wipes to clean the box where you add your test. The Basket could give contamination?
@@Chelszzang93 I had a family member get a test at CVS and it took 11 days to get results. That was 2 weeks ago so it might take even longer now. This was in California by the way.
Thank you for this! This just helped me relieve all my fears....I really didn't want a doctor or some stranger shoving a long cue tip into my brain like what I've seen on the news.
The other videos made it look so painful. Its no laughing matter but I try to laugh through my anxiety. I bet it would hurt me like hell hecause Im too sensitive to begin with.
Sounds like a way to make you WAY more susceptible to getting covid 19 if you dont have it.. Scratching the inside of your nose where bacteria and viruses enter just making it easier to catch it. I refuse to get tested
That is not how my covid test went. When they did me it felt like trying to put mascara on my brain. It had to have been more than 3/4 inch into the nose.
It’s interesting how differently tests are done. I had my first one today and they said it would be about an inch up my nose, swirled around 4 times in each nostril. I can’t imagine doing it myself like he did!
Yeah the self administered tests don't require you to put the qtip all the way up there like the ones that aren't. Probably because if they had people trying to shove qtips that far up their noses they would likely injure themselves. They are slightly less accurate though, since they don't go as far up as the nurse administered ones.
There are two main types of nasal self swabs: anterior nares and mid-turbinate. They depend on the swab material. Mid-turbinate a lot of times is inserted 3 inches while anterior nares is only 1 inch. The CDC says even less than that is required for both
@CFH GIRL Just went and, wow - it tickled for sure, but it was also like a clawed monster picking my nose LoL. Yep, I had to do my own as well, just said 'go in until you feel resistance'. Okay. LoL. Holy crap, yellow jackets, eh? Are you country, farm or just an unlucky city woman? That many says nest, and country's best place for all that. Yes, best you got some testing with your symptoms juuuust in case. I hope all goes well for you, and best wishes!
Why is there two different styles of insertion, "feels like it touched my brain deep" and less than inch deep? Please someone explain this disparity if you can. Thanks.
They are collecting specimens from different areas. I believe nasopharyngeal specimens are considered better but this seems to be an anterior nares specimen. It appears these can be done by the individual his or herself. They have the different testing options available for view on the CDC website. I know that at least some physician clinics are gathering nasopharyngeal specimens when they test. This is all as far as I know and I can't say with 100% certainty. Cheers and inform yourself as much as possible!
I just did one and I was told to continue to twist while in the nostril for 15 seconds. Good luck everyone and I am happy the OP took the time to make this video.
I just had a PCR test in the UK today, i had the complete opposite experience, they left you to do it unsupervised and weren't helpful at all. I just hope i done it good enough.
@@romalinarose9009 So they hand you a swab, and they tell you to put it in your nose about a inch in and do a circle motion. I know this is weird but if you put your finger in your nose and push it as far as you can that's how far it'll go. The good news is that you do it yourself, and in human nature you won't hurt yourself. Btw unfortunately I have tested Positive
Thanks Ethan! My dad is in Raleigh and did this and i wanted to see what it looked like! I grewup in raleigh but live in israel, small world i just searched covid test cvs and its a raleigh guy! hope you are healthy!
I’m actually pissed, the CVS that tested me was the only one with “available appointments” closest to me. I still drove 1 hour to get to it and then there were 9 cars ahead of me. My “appointment” was at 12:10 and needless to say I was early arriving and late leaving. I thought the little sign that says “appointments required for testing” wasn’t bullshit, because there’s no way you can schedule 10 people at the same time by accident
Wierd???? I got tested Monday at my doctors and they just did a nose swab on both nostrils nothing too deep took less than 10 seconds and that was it???
I took a test this morning , it was slightly uncomfortable but not painful. The nurse didn’t stick the swab all the way up my nose, only about 1 1/2 inch and for 10 seconds per nostril. Quick and easy.
Im glad I ran across this video. I have to do this exact test at a drive thru soon & I have incredible anxiety about it. There are so many videos talking about people being stabbed in the brain by the swab it scared me lol. This looks simple & painless.
So, I had a test done and it wasn’t bad...the first time. I tested positive and recovered (thank God!). I had to get a second test done before I could return to work, and that test was horrid! It hurt, my nose bled quite a bit and I had blood drainage in the back of my throat. I also had a headache from it for hours afterwards. So, I’m not sure if the girl didn’t know what she was doing but my second test really hurt. I’m kind of thinking she did not do it correctly or with improper technique. Either way, there was a HUGE difference in comfort from my first test and my second one. Anyone else experience these issues?
Yes. Mine was like this. Nurse inserted it deep into nose and twirled it for about 5 seconds. When she pulled it out, blood started to stream out. I had to spit blood into the garbage can because it was leaking into my throat. Stopped after about 2mins. Very unpleasant overall.
So my nose swab this morning at CVS minute clinic was twice this size. But thanks for posting (you def wouldn’t have wanted to see mine). I studied before going because you know...anxiety.
Thank you for the video. I’m getting my first test done tomorrow. Fully vaccinated and I don’t have symptoms, but I found out a coworker of mine tested positive. So I was nervous and wanted to see what it was like. Hope you’re well. x
@@sarahn.2296 I don’t mind at all. It was fine. Didn’t hurt. Results were difficult to wait for, but they arrive soon enough. But wear a glove. You have to lift a door on a metal bin and they give you an antibacterial wipe. So I’d rather have had a glove ready. The person testing right before you could be positive, so I don’t trust one wipe.
@@andrewlew89 thanks for replying. I have my test scheduled for tomorrow morning. I had a nasal swab (this kind) at a hospital a year ago, then I had the brain-tickling one a few months later and is was excruciating, I'll never do that again. I'm worried though because everyone in these videos say that their results are all negative and I'm worried that the tests aren't going back far enough. Logically I know they are but I get scared of getting a false negative.
I went Tuesday and it was so so easy. The one I went to gave me a paper bag, and the swab was longer and kind of pointed. They make you put on gloves first, then do the swab while they count 15 seconds in each nostril. Then you put it into the tube and break the end off, and seal it in the bag. There's a little door to drop your bag, and they gave me a sanitizing wipe to clean that for the next person. When I pulled up, they needed my DL number, asked if I had insurance (I don't), and they got everything ready. Sje said she would copy my ID but she didnt. It took under 10 minutes. Easy peasy
Wow that's way better than I got today. Guy took 20 seconds to rush me thru the instructions then gave me the kit and told me to roll my window up and do it. Think I did OK.
God I have this debilitating fear of doctors and medical procedures. I was abused by a doctor when I was small so anything of this nature makes me have panic attacks and fear vomiting. I'm living my personal hell.
I have a phobia of vomiting that gives me a lot of anxiety about medical procedures as well including the COVID test. I feel like I’ll be alright as long as I get to do the test myself.Know you’re not alone with the struggles
Just wanted to post cause i know how terrified i was by this test after all the comments on videos like this about the pain etc of the nose swab. I took the test today, mind you I live in Norway. The nose swab was nothing but alittle tickle going in and out. Ones it was in I felt nothing. The mouth swab was harder just cause it made me cough. All in all, not bad at all. But of course it could all depend on the person taking it and the one performing the test.
Owen Wehmann it seems like the ones they make you do yourself is a lot less painless than the ones that doctors insert into your nose. I also noticed the procedure is different.
I just had my first test today (employer requires it weekly) in case we’re back in the office next week. Super uncomfortable. The national guard is doing it in my area and they did the actual test while I was in the car. I can’t imagine pushing the swab up that far myself! Bring tissue! If your eyes don’t water it wasn’t far enough up. Even now, 6 hours later, I still have a runny nose and didn’t before the test.
I guess CVS uses different methods, my CVS test didn't use an ordinary small Q-tip swab. It was a long one with a fine bristle end. They also didn't use a zip lock bag, which can easily open.....not good! They used an adhesive strip sealed bag! Don't understand why they gave the guy a pack of 4 Q-tips when he only used 1, wasteful.
Revelation 13:16-17 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.
Just got tested. Our nursing home had called for a mobile covid test unit. Aka a Big White van😂 Walked in, scanned my personel badge, got swab done by a nurse, and walked out the back door. Quick and easy. Results in 24 hours. 🤞🏻
That’s not how I was instructed to insert the stick. Instead of going up into my nostril, they had me hold it straight, and insert it into my nasal cavity.
Same, I just got one today. It wasn't painful exactly, but when I did mine I got super lightheaded and couldn't see or hear straight. The worst part was they had me hold it in each nostril for 15 seconds.
I had the test done today. It was intense, they shoved it so far in I don’t even know how it goes that far, I had a strong instinct to rip it out, but I had to resist! It’s crazy that the are letting him do it himself, why did they have to jab me so hard and deep if you can just do this? 🤣
They're possibly not quite as accurate if you do the self administered ones like he did (about 10% higher chance of false negative, according to studies so far), so I guess some places are choosing to still do the swabs that go deeper.
@@Odiekins Thankfully, so far, the chance of false positives with all forms of covid tests is nearly zero, and even when they do happen, they are largely due to human error (such as contaminated surfaces and the like) and not a flaw with the test itself. Unfortunately, because of the nature of this pandemic and the need to get things to market quickly, the FDA (I'm in the us) has had to allow emergency use authorization, which means they aren't going through the rigorous vetting process they would normally go through with the FDA, and we're having to learn some of their limitations on the fly. But we are really very lucky to have access to relatively accurate testing so quickly in the face of a heretofore unknown virus, and improvements to testing to make them faster, easier, and more accurate are being introduced constantly. Overall, all forms of covid test appear to be very accurate and false negatives are much more of a concern than false positives, both in terms of probability and consequences.
