Andy Williams was the greatest crooner of them all. He sang in public from the age of 5 to 81. He had a four octave range and perfect pitch. He was handsome, talented, modest, charitable, encouraged new talent, a great family man, son, brother, husband, father. I bought his albums aged 13 and wore them out. I saw him live in concert in London. RIP Mr Williams.

I understand Andy was also an excellent barber. Just kidding, that was Perry Como. Andy Williams was indeed a one in a million talent and human being. I can't hear anyone sing Moon River w/o comparing it to him..

Hi, @meirwise1107, thanks for your comment. Andy Williams was very handsome, I didn't think about his looks back in 1963 when I was 10 years old, now that I see him again in these old RU-vid videos, wow, such looks and a great voice to match. Robert Goulet was on a very similar level as Andy Williams, in fact they both did an album together, with the song, "I'd Rather Be Rich"; they both starred in the movie of the same name in 1964. I miss those days.

Funny thing, I was just watching an Archive of American Television interview with Andy Williams and they asked him about his guest appearances on various programs, including this one. He couldn't recall it at all. He thought the interviewer was mistaken, so I decided to check it out. One of the most memorable disguised voices I've ever heard, and another great performance by Andy. I really wish it could have gone on a while longer.

Seems Dorothy got by with about four consecutive “no” answers re the cattle product. As an aside, these cattle scratchers are still in use today. The scratchers are impregnated with insecticides and can be strung up between two trees that are relatively close in proximity.

gomphrena -beautiful flower- Those were the type of “no” answers that John Daly usually answers with a “yes” because of the way the are asked, like “Yes, there are no ...whatever the question pertained to...”. I don’t know why John didn’t answer those questions starting with the “Yes, ...”. The panelists got good at asking ‘no” questions in a way to get “yes” answers.

This is the only episode in which Dorothy Kilgallen and Phyllis Newman appear together. At the beginning of the year, Dorothy missed 10 of the first 18 live broadcasts and taping sessions and Phyllis appeared every time in her place, leading me [and I am sure others in 1963] to speculate that G-T were grooming her just in case to replace Dorothy if Dorothy did not pull herself together. I wonder if hurt feelings or resentments surfaced behind the broadcast scene. Phyllis could have filled in for Dorothy in Spring 1965 when Dorothy injured herself in a fall and missed seven broadcasts and taping sessions - but did not. This is Phyllis’s last WML appearance until December 1965, when she and a bunch of other lady writers and actresses auditioned to replace Dorothy.
@philippapay4352
@philippapay4352 4 года назад
soulierinvestments - Just guessing on this and I really could be way off base at this juncture because Phyllis Newman became such a frequent guest on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show while he was still in NYC. But at this time she was having her babies with Adolph Green and on this show was pregnant with Amanda Green. She was also at the height of her initial successes on Broadway and certainly did not need the money. But she may have considered a regular spot here beneficial as exposure to the general public in America to promote all her acting ventures. I would think if they were considering replacing Dorothy at this time that Bennett might have put forward the widow, Kitty Carlisle, of his best friend, Moss Hart, who had died suddenly two years earlier as she may have been ready to consider some minor work again while rearing two teens without a father. But, perhaps not. Bennett did like both Green and Newman, too. It does all fit with Dorothy's increasing absences after her disastrous love affair and inability to complete the book she had promised Bennett on deadline due to an advance.

Elsie M. There is a comment by you, further down on this page, in which you wrote: "I must be the only one who dislikes Phyllis as a panelist! I do, however, love Dorothy's "bird nest" hairstyles of this period- so pretty." I wanted to reply to that comment, but for some reason there was no reply "button" there, so I'm replying here instead. I hadn't planned to say anything to disagree with all those who obviously think she's great, but I agree with you about Phyllis Newman. She's pretty, bright at times, and seems like a nice person, but she just annoys me as panelist for some reason, and I cannot agree with those here who have stated that she seems to fit right in on the panel. I don't think we're totally alone in this opinion though, judging by TomasTigre's comments, further up on this page. On the other hand, I cannot agree with you about Dorothy's hairdos -- sorry -- though I do think your "bird nest" description of them is apt. I love the icon next to your name, though -- is that Arlene with Jerry Mahoney?

SaveThe TPC Ahh, yes, it was pointed out to me by What's My Line? that there is a bug of some sort on YT preventing such direct responses! How odd! I'm glad I'm not the only one with these thoughts about Phyllis! No worries regarding Dot's hairstyles, though; I figure most probably dislike them! I enjoy their ridiculousness. And, yes, that is indeed Jerry Mahoney next to Arlene. I believe you are the one of the few to correctly guess that (usually folks go to the default, better remembered ventriloquist, Edgar Bergen)!

depends on what kind. if its made of vegetables, usually for people who are going on diets or want to be healthier, then yes. but traditionally, the noodles in spaghetti are a grain product for they are made out of flour.

I hate when panelists ask "do you like what you do?" to the contestants. How is that supposed to help them? I also hate that Phyllis always asks if the product would be found on the main floor of a two story house. I mean is there anything that would exclusively be found on the second floor of a house?
@WhatsMyLine
@WhatsMyLine 10 лет назад
Wow, that's a lotta hate. :) But I will concede that there's only one thing I can really think of that can *only* be found on the second floor of a house: the top of the staircase from the first floor.
@soulierinvestments

This question does two things. If the answer is yes, then we have something associated with kitchens or dining rooms or garages. If the answer is no, then we something associated with bedrooms and bathrooms.
@WhatsMyLine
@WhatsMyLine 10 лет назад
The house I grew up in had the kitchen and dining room on the second floor, and the garage was (of course) on the ground floor. Fairly standard, suburban split ranch house. So I don't think that logic quite works. Though I can't see the garage ever being on the second floor (I'll grant that), I would tend to agree-- without the hate-- that it's not a terribly useful question, nor is it when they ask "Can it be found in one particular room of the house?" I've rarely, if ever, seen that elicit anything very useful in the questioning.

Lars Rye Jeppesen - Right, because it was a long-standing tradition to address professional/show business women by the name under which they became famous. We see it with the mystery guests as well... everyone knew that Lucille Ball was married to Desi Arnaz, and yet she was still addressed as “Miss Ball.” The famous Mrs. George Burns was often called “Miss Gracie Allen.” :)
