Anyone who doesn't think Ms. Tierney is not beautiful is blind. She is perhaps one of the most beautiful women ever on the Silver Screen. Drop dead gorgeous!!!
polyprinz I thought I was one of a few people who still said that phrase" drop dead gorgeous!" It is an apt description of someone, who is quite besutiful, handsome depending on the person, saying it. She,certainly had her shares of positive and negative life experiences in her life, and from what I have read about her,did the best, she could with them.
She was the most beautiful actress and above all else, a true lady. She went through hell and back but she always kept her dignity and grace. Rest in peace sweet lady.
@@44032 Both Wrong , Ava Gardner Brunette, Liz Taylor Brunette, Linda Darnell Brunette, Hedy Lamarr Brunette, GENE TIERNEY Brunette. At least Tierney made the top 5. As for Blondes, Jayne Mansfield, Anita Eckberg then all the rest. Redheads, Rhonda Fleming, Arlene Dahl, Maureen O'Hara, Jeanne Crain, then all the rest.
That's your Opinion Connie, Ava Gardner was arguably the most beautiful brunette ever ,followed by Liz Taylor and Linda Darnell. I should include Rita Hayworth as well , she was a natural brunette but most of her career she was a redhead.
Ava Gardner, Liz Taylor, Hedy Lamarr. Linda Darnell, Yvonne De Carlo, Loretta Young, Gina Lollo, Sophia Loren, Claudia Cardinale and Rita Hayworth. Buddy , you've got clouds in your coffee if you think Gene Tierney was the most beautiful actress.
AwwwBennet. I hope she heard that. This was the year she stepped out on a ledge on the 14th floor in manhattan. She had been distraught but talked back in. Such a beautiful and broken soul. I’m glad she found a loving husband to help heal One of the best and classiest women on screen
She was one of the most stunningly beautiful actresses ever. She had much sadness and tragedy in her life, but at least her last years in Texas were happy.
In 1984, I saw her in a Houston supermarket. She'd gotten rotund, and no one else paid any attention to her. She looked wonderful in a simple brown pantsuit with a large black belt, flat heeled shoes, light makeup. There she was, pushing a supermarket cart like any other shopper, looking somewhat depressed because the store was packed, and she knew she'd have quite a long wait in a checkout lane. She pushed her cart into the aisle next to mine. It was unmistakable who she was. When she realized I'd recognized her, she dropped her eyelids, and I, not being a clod, didn't look at her again.
The unforgettable star of "Laura" , "Leave her to heaven", "The ghost and Mrs. Muir" and "Night and the city" was one of the most beautiful and elegant actresses ever to appear in the screen.
Well others have already said what I was going to say, which is that Gene Tierney was one of, if not the most beautiful woman to grace the silver screen.
Bless her. You can tell she's hurting here, there's like a certain sadness etched in her face. She was so strong to put up with all she went through and a great actress too.
This episode shows than when Ernie gets serious he can nail the identity of the mystery guest. I find Ernie to be a funny guy. With just the right amount of funnyness for the show. His tragic death was a great loss to all of us who like to laugh.
She is amazingly beautiful. In her twenties she was drop dead perfect gorgeous. Now I must go watch The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, 1947 with Gene Tierney and Rex Harrison.
I didn't see anyone address the fact that she suffered from serious bouts of depression for years of her life...Now that would take the bloom off of any rose...I felt so sorry for her!
From Wikipedia: "In late December 1957, Tierney stepped from her mother's apartment in Manhattan onto a ledge 14 stories up and stood there for about 20 minutes, in what was considered a suicide attempt." This is four months before that.
I see below that the lovely Ms. Tierney's almost too beautiful to be believed appearance is acknowledged and admired by one and all...simply breathtaking...!
Truly, one of the greatest beauties ever to come out of Hollywood. She was just 36 years old here, and hadn't made a movie in over two years since "The Left-Hand of God" with Humphrey Bogart. Ms. Tierney suffered from mental illness, and underwent extensive shock treatment after production on that film had ended. Just four months after this appearance on CBS's "What's My Line," in late December of 1957, not too far from the CBS studios, she stepped onto a ledge from her mother's Manhattan apartment, 14 stories above ground. From her autobiography: "“I must have stood there for 20 minutes....” I was totally without fear, and I thought, ‘What’s the point of living?’ ” "[What saved me] was vanity. I thought of what I’d look like when I hit the ground-like a scrambled egg. That didn’t appeal to me. If I was going to die, I wanted to be in one piece.” Gene Tierney, a chronic smoker, passed away of emphysema at the age of 70, on November 6, 1971. R.I.P., Eliza...
I am not sure I agree. She's only 36 or 37 years old here and she smoked cigarettes like a smoke stack. She aged so quickly because of it. In her 20's and early 30's, she was absolutely beautiful..one of the most beautiful actresses ever!
@@Tommiboy193 That appears to be the case. Her heyday was the 1940s, when her great beauty and talent were evidenced in top films like Laura and Leave her to Heaven, etc. Stunning.
GENE is in her more mature yearz here but still bueautiful. You cant appreciate her beauty in black n white . She had the most incredible green eyes. Prefect bone structure and features. Go back and look at color pics of her in her 20s. None can compare! Classic beauty
The talented Ernie Kovacs was killed in an automobile accident, as a single passenger 5 years later in 1962. His then wife, Edie Adams spent years paying off his tax debts (Ernie was against the IRS taxation system; Ernie spent years being garnished 90% of his wages by IRS liens, while working in film and TV.... Edie also raised both of his daughters from his previous marriage, their other daughter Mia, born in June 1959, during Edie and Ernie's marriage died in a vehicle accident in 1982.
@@dorothykilgallenwasmurdere1653men contribute 1,0000000000x more tax than the female population do and always have. The rich successful heads of corporations, the world class footballers, the ones that work in business, law, finance and the such literally keep the world financed while modern women sell themselves on Onlyfans for £8 a month tax free. But, that’s a typical female though. Absolutely worthless, contribute nothing and live life on easy mode on the backs of successful and hard working men of this world. Now, you just be a good little woman and stick the kettle on and while we men build sky scrapers you can build us a nice sandwich
Gene was 36 or 37 here, still young! But she had undergone some 27 shock treatments to try to alleviate her deep depression. Gene appeared on WML a short 4 months before stepping out on a window ledge 14 floors up, subsequently being placed in another clinic. I would say what we are seeing in her face is severe stress.
Two real golden age icons on show here. Only my opinion but Ms Tierney one of the most beautiful women ever to grace a movie screen and Ms Francis with the most seductive voice ever.
Only Virna Lisi and Hedy Lamar come close to the beauty of Gene Tierney. My favorite Gene Tierney movie is "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and then "Laura" then "Heaven Can Wait" and then "Leave Her to Heaven"! I am a Merchant Marine and her opposite of Rex Harrison as Captain Greg is one of my all time favorite movies. Her husband Oleg Cassini was an incredible talent in his own right and a heavy influence on the style of the 60s when I was growing up. She is also a tragic figure having contracted measles from a fan while pregnant. She played opposite of some great leading men (as per the aforementioned movies) Rex Harrison, Dana Andrews, Don Ameche, Cornell Wilde, etc. etc.
The barber school instructor is a match in handsome to Gene Tierney's eternal feminine beauty. He beats Yul Brenner for sheer hairless skull beauty, plus great teeth.
She was an absolute KNOCKOUT......& beyond that she was stunningly beautiful on the inside also and i loved that about her.. I watch her in movues and am mesmerized by her eyes
Gene Tierney, so beautiful Hollywood came after HER (while on trip to Los Angeles Gene and her family happened to visit a famous movie studio for a tour and she was spotted). The rest, as they say, was history
Hedy Lamar, Claudette Colbert, Ingrid Bergman, Vivien Leigh, Linda Darnell and Gene Tierney: they were- at least to me- the most prominent actresses from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Wit, talent, class and beauty... all rolled into one- Gene !!!
25:10 Bennett says "Gene Tierney is the most beautiful girl we've had on this program in a long, long time." This in a month that featured Jayne Mansfield, Jane Russell, Edie Adams, and Zsa Zsa Gabor! :)
I’m totally with Arlene Francis on the misleading answer. “Is this an animal we would eat?” “No.” Wtf!? It’s a *pig*. The 2nd most consumed animal in the world after chicken.
@hopicard Oh, Gene Tierney was beautiful!! Such natural, real, and clean lines and look to her. She started in Films at age 19 or 20. I watched some of her first movie. She looked like a totally different person than how she looked in say "Laura". She was young, and all "raggedy", dirty. Play a poor gal.
Gene played a farm girl daughter of real hicks who (Gene) kept chasing after Ward Bond whenever he showed up at their shack. Classic bumpkin girl...all sex, dirty face, and the enticing poses she struck were killer. John Ford film.....I remember Bond turning a car over by crawling under it and lifting it over on his back.....
John's comment at the end indicates that it was difficult to get some people to get the polio vaccine, just as we currently have problems getting people to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Despite the difficulty that John mentioned, polio has since been eradicated from almost every country in the world. It is only found today in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
1957 would be a tough year from Ms. Tierney. According to wikipedia: "In late December 1957, Tierney, from her mother's apartment in Manhattan, stepped onto a ledge 14 stories above ground and remained for about 20 minutes in what was considered a suicide attempt.[14] Police were called, and afterwards, Tierney's family arranged for her to be admitted to the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Kansas. The following year, after treatment for depression, she was discharged. Afterwards, she worked as a sales girl in a local dress shop with hopes of integrating back into society,[14] but she was recognized by a customer, resulting in sensational newspaper headlines. Years later, she would make a comeback of sorts in 1980, with her last appearance in the television series Scruples, which I remember well
