I think ww2 fighting knives is a great introduction to collecting military. I'm new to collecting and fighting knives and bayoneys are my thing. I can easily identify them and know that they aren't fake. Unfortunately I learned a quick lesson that the leather scabbards are often times worth more than the knives themselves. Got a good deal on a wwi trench knife but saw that the scabbards are around $400 if you can find one.
Thanks- Yes, I agree! - the knives and bayonets are a really great facet of the hobby. Good point about the scabbards - very true! especially (as you found out) with the WWI ones that were not as robust and didn't last as long as the knives, making them quite scarce. And though not faked as much as some of the other pieces out there, you still have to watch out for newer made ones and some that are modified by unscrupulous dealers- but there are plenty of great resources out there to help you know what to look for.
Thanks for the feedback! this one was done in a bit of a time crunch- and one of our cutaway cameras failed- but we will try and do a better job of showing the artifacts going forward- as a side note most of these will be on the website soon! Thanks for watching!
