Very good review. I went thru their AMG and sent in my pack due to the DEATH SQUEAK. They sent me an email and said they cannot repair it but will replace it with this 2022 version. I chose the black one. Im bummed it wont have the flap that says osprey anymore if i decided to go without the brain of the pack, but im happy with the other changes they made. Especially the easier way to adjust torso length and the zippers, and of course the FREE rain fly! Thanks for the review

I just got mine and scratched my head about the "missing" top flap for a few minutes. Then I took the "brain" off and thought to myself, maybe it's meant to be mounted upside down if you don't need the extra space? Yep. Unmount it, unthreading the buckles in the back, and remount it upside down. There's your flush top flap. You can still put some small stuff in there if needed but without the floppiness. 🙂

Great video!!!! Your old pack breakdown.... Mirrors my own experience quite a bit. I got a large Alice pack in the late 90's. Was issued one in the army. After getting out, I kept doing 2-3 day hikes and camping trips with that pack. I'm getting a bit older now and decided to see if these new-fangled packs are actually worth the cost. A couple of years ago I got my hands on an Atmos 50. That thing was a game-changer. I'm giving that to my teen son, and I'm stepping up to the AG 65. Your review helped me make my mind up. Thanks for sharing!!!

Thank you for this video bro ,I've been wracking my brain as to why my top lid only had 1 lid unlike the other versions of this pack ,I was searching every zip to find a second lid but my pack is the same as yours .....Great video & very informative ,thank you from 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿✌🏻

Very informative and honest video, thanks a lot. When you eventually have used this pack for a lot of miles, I would love to see some kind of follow up review to this first impression, and hear your comments on f.ex the hip belt velcro, if it holds up, or gives way as the pack gets a lot of miles on it, and the velcro has been under prolonged periods of strain.

Thanks for the comment on the ‘missing’ flap to cover the main compartment when the brain is removed. Not sure why they got rid of it as now there is a reluctance to remove the brain as it makes the pack more vulnerable exposed and less pleasurable to look at.

You're welcome. Perhaps they thought the included rain cover would suffice for going without the brain. Would be nice if it were a convertible day pack like the aether plus, but those are also beefy packs.

Good overall review. I was curious on the updates. Definately some improvements, but really feel Osprey should have kept the top flap as an option to the top lid. I use it often on my older model and this seemed pretty essential to me. Seems to be the only major downside. I've used mine 50+mi at a time and they carry very well. Good solid bags with a good garuntee.

Agreed ...I was digging the new version and color ...then he got to the brain and saw it didn't have the flap ..for me it was like the needle scratching over a record lol ...that actually was the deciding factor I probably will not get the new version ...I never used the brain on the one I have now lol
@preacherbeeman3437
@preacherbeeman3437 Год назад
@@irishluck7461 I wonder if the cover on your old pack would fit the new pack?
@confusingbits
@confusingbits Год назад
This version has a cover included so the integrated top flap is not as necessary. It is however ‘uglier’ without the brain now. :/ No ‘duplicate’ top flap is also lighter.

Any guesses in if the updated mesh that goes on the back would provide more air? The older version has bigger holes in the mesh and “looks” more ventilated.
@confusingbits
@confusingbits 2 года назад
I don't have the previous model for comparison, but I can't imagine that one would find a significant difference in breathability. There's full airflow back there.

Nice pack I have the older version. Did you consider the aether 65 if so what made you choose the atmos over the aether
@confusingbits
@confusingbits 2 года назад
No, I didn't really consider the aether, and I didn't really need a longer duration pack. I'm glad I didn't, this is more than enough pack for me. I wouldn't want to carry more. With the Atmos, I was mostly sold on the recommendations of thruhikers that I found talking about gear. Many said the atmos was a safe choice. I did consider the new Exos, but I was unsure what features I would need including fit adjustments. So in the end, I just chose the more flexible option.

Great review! Thanks for that! I'm in doubt about which size to pick, because I'm 1.84cm height and my torso is 49cm. That's nearly the upper limit for the s/m and the lower limit for the l/xl. Which size would you recommend based in your experience with the bag?
@confusingbits
@confusingbits Год назад
I think Osprey's fitting guideline recommend trying the smaller one first. I was in the same boat, and didn't know that until after I bought the large one. I can't say that it has been an issue that I have the large size though. At least for me.
@InstrumentAaa
@InstrumentAaa Год назад
I’m the same size and a L/XL was definitely the better fit. The S/M was way too small for me.
@mikeb.9341
@mikeb.9341 Год назад
Thanks for the reply! I already bought s/m size few weeks ago. Honestly, it's all right since you can adjust it. However, the adjustment is in the limit for me. It's nothing that you will do all the time, so I'm happy with it.

Can a large smartphone 6,7" fit in the side pockets on the hip belt?
@confusingbits
@confusingbits 2 года назад
I believe so, but I don't have one to confirm directly. They are quite sizable pockets.

Do the zippers at 33:22 go into the main part of the bag or is it separate?
@confusingbits
@confusingbits Год назад
Yeah, the zippers for the 'sleeping bag section' are to the same main bag compartment as the top drawstring closure. There is a collapsible divider between the two sections so that you can make them one big section if you wish.

@@confusingbits sorry should have been more clear but i meant the ones on the side🙂
@confusingbits
@confusingbits Год назад
Yeah the 'front' side pockets, also mentioned at 6:10, are completely separate from the main compartment and from each other, and I believe unique to the 65L vs 50L. There are also some 'side' side pockets mentioned at 8:00 that open to the main compartment, which I believe are new to the pack this year.

This was just a first look, not a review, please check out those other videos I linked for more authoritative reviews. My extremely early opinion is that it is very high quality pack, and I'm happy with my purchase so far.

hello, what is your height and weight? How many days are you hiking? What is the size of the backpack? thank you
@confusingbits
@confusingbits Год назад
I'm about 185lbs and 6'3" tall. The bag size is the L/XL. I should note that if I continuing losing weight, I will need to go to the smaller size, and the belt is nearly completely drawn on me. I was on the edge for my torso length, I should have probably went a size down.

Does it squeak?
@confusingbits
@confusingbits Год назад
I’ve heard complaints about this, but no, I haven’t experienced this. However, MS is really humid. I cant image that it nots something fixable with graphite or talcum powered. Any frame pack can squeak.
