"Of course, it's frustrating," admitted Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak, as he addressed the Premier League's accusations of financial irregularity against the club.
City were crowned champions in May for a record fourth consecutive year, but their achievements have been clouded by the 100-plus charges levelled by the Premier League in February 2023. A hearing is set to start in November.
On Monday, two days after Khaldoon's interview with City's official club channel, it was reported that City are fighting back with a legal challenge to the Premier League's associated party transaction rules (APT).
These rules were put in place to ensure that commercial deals between a club and other corporate bodies linked to club owners are done at a fair market price.
Although Khaldoon did not specifically discuss the case, he did hint that the league's restrictive regulations may stop City and other clubs from spending heavily on new players during the summer transfer window.
Khaldoon also discussed the future of City manager Pep Guardiola, who has one year left on his contract after eight years with the club.
Any decision, said Khaldoon, would be taken together, to find "the right solution that works for Pep and works for us".
