I get that he's sorry and regrets everything but sorry doesn't bring that woman's life back. He can be sorry all day but it doesn't really matter and I don't care if "this isn't the man he truly was". That's the man that he was when he killed someone

The justice system is supposed to be built to rehabilitate people also known as teach them a lesson for their actions. If they are presumed as safe to society than they are given a 2nd chance. This was not an intentional killer, this was an accidental killer which in the eyes of the law and pretty much any human being with empathy and a basic moral compass would presume an accidental killer can learn from their mistakes. The justice system is so fucked up because of people like who you want to “lock people up forever” because of accidents. If your sister, brother, mother, father, best friend, or etc was in his position you’d be weeping for them to have a second chance especially if you knew they had a great heart and would learn from a horrible mistake that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. The poor girls mother and family forgave him & keyboard warriors who have never been put in such a situation are so quick to judge. Find empathy in your heart, it’s very important. I pray for her family and everyone involved. Such a sad situation.

The truth statistically as far as all data goes far more people are killed by aggressive and excessive speed drivers. Drinking and driving is far more demonized than truly objective investigations show. If you are an aggressive driver and you drink while driving you are definitely more of a threat but we have learned to accept dui as the most aggregious which is more aggregious considering how many people kill people with far less consequences.

Beautiful person was taken from this world by a very negligent decision. 3-10yrs is beyond merciful. I've always thought that a sentence should match the time for the victim to be healed. Involuntary murder, should be a life sentence (20yrs) and then/if released, should have a probation as to where the individual can't have a normal life. Not sure how to do that, but if a person hurts someone and their crippled for life, that person should serve a sentence and then upon release, be "crippled for life" trying to adapt into society to be reminded every day of their actions as that victim has to live with their circumstances every day...make sense?

I don't have to think about it. I'd rather be alive and out of prison than me and my dog burned alive. Btw I believe the parents also have it worse being as they get the life sentence. Think about that.

Maybe the suspect would feel bad, sure, but you know what feels worse? Dying in a burning car for a crash that was entirely preventable. I wouldnt go as far as the others in this coment section and call Ruggs a total p.o.s but what he did was still EXTREMELY selfish.

Drinking and driving isn't a mistake. 4 + 5= 8 is a mistake. He should have got 30 years. Problem is 90% of society has probably drove drunk so its viewed as not that bad of a crime, we all have done it.

You thought this was lenient? With a blood alcohol level of .126 above Florida's .08 limit. Donte Stallworth killed a man. He plead guilty to a DUI, and was given a sentence of; 24 days in jail, house arrest for 2 years but allowed to play football in the NFL, a settlement with the family to avoid a civil suit, 1,000 hours of community service and 8 years probabtion. he played 3 more seasons in the NFL immediately after this.

@@CassidyPresley-o2k If the judge is a democrat there is hardly and repercussions and if the judge is Republican the defendants life is ruined. My uncle got arrested for dealing weed for a third time in his 62 years of life last year and got 14 years in prison (we live in Montana). There should just be some sort of middle ground in the law honestly, regardless of state. It seems like the punishment is a slap on the wrist or a life sentence, My uncle will only be able to see his daughter and grandkids from behind bars until he is likely dead just because he smoked weed to deal with back pain instead of using pills and sold some to his "friend" who got caught with possession and snitched on him for a lighter sentence. Meanwhile this guy got 3 years (tops) and killed a person and her dog while driving insanely fast while drunk. The USA legal system is just a total crapshoot and depending on the day or where you are when arrested it's a coin flip. The law should be more clear-cut.

I hope that you turn to common sense and understand what you actually see instead of what you hope for. Only later did he develop this "guilt" you know, when it came time to sentence him. And do you think less of me than you do of a man whose irresponsible actions led to someone burning alive? Are you sure that I'm the one who needs God? If you say this to me, what would you say to him as he sat on that curb asking for medical attention while someone else was burning alive?

Whatever he thought he was doing. Chosing to drive while drunk and driving too fast is not just a mistake. He chose to do this and I will always wonder why the hell someone would do that. I wonder if these people even understand that enormous danger that it brings. The fact that the young woman got burned alive with her dog is just horrific. It even makes me scared thinking when I am driving because god knows if this would happen to any of us. 3 to 10 years is nothing for what happened to her...... He should be lucky that he is still alive as well. He could have been in a burning car..... sadly enough it happened to the innocent instead. This is why it makes people so angry is often the innocent people get killed, not the drunk drivers. The reason why he has a low sentence is because of who he is and the money he has. Other people would have had way more....which makes it worse.
