The great racing driver Al Unser sr. had an Aerostar; I saw him fly into SAF in the 80s, it was hard to miss him, with his tail number of N500AU!

We were not miked. Audio being recorded by the camera which was out in the wind. Sorry about that.

Such a beautiful aircraft, wish I could afford one! So who will be the first to take a clapped out Aerostar and completely restore it including a conversion to twin turboprops? What I would do if I had the means. I saw a conversion to a single TP somewhere on here but if it were me I'd want two PT6's. Hey, if ones going to dream, might as well dream big! Thanks for the great content Eric. 👍

Bobby Allison put Allison Turbo engines on one once. It didn't have much range and later on he landed it gear up. So that was that!

Excellent to see you will be flying and making videos. What are the pros and cons of the electric AC as opposed to engine driven?

Electric is much heavier due to the big compressor motor, plus it pulls about 55 amps requiring large alternators.

The weight savings is not that great. It is the difference between an approximately two hp motor vs plumbing and Freon to the right engine. And the weight being in the tail section actually helps my W&B on a 601P. Standard alternators have trouble with the load of the electric a/c at idle. Newer NAP or Plane Power can handle the load at idle. The real benefit of the engine driven a/c is better cooling. Neither cool like a car a/c. Both systems have their pluses and minuses. Each have supporters and detractors.

Yes, That does include the gross weight upgrade. If you spend the money on a good airframe up front, you will spend less on your "progressive restorations" which some people call Annual Inspections :)
