Session beers are in demand now, mostly because people want a good thing and that offers the best of both worlds: low ABV beer with plenty of aromas and no compromise. #CraftBeer101 #SessionBeers #LowABV

Nice video guys! Good information. I've wondered about the peculiar name myself. Hey Max, can I have the name of the store and the reading material recommendations that were talked about when I was over at your place?

I’ve seen 5% with session on the label though, not only under 4%. Personally, I think for most non-essential jobs where lives aren’t at stake (I mean it shouldn’t apply to surgeons or anything), the workers should be allowed to drink 3% without being bothered.

Would agree with that, it always depend on the individual affected. It’s still somewhat of a grey area when you look at the laws surrounding the situation!

Another great video guys. As to your point about Brick Brewing, they are behind two very well known brands - Laker and Waterloo.

@bringyourempties 5 лет назад
Ohhhhh that’s who they are. Thanks for pointing out, it’s actually quite big brands in the independent scheme of things. (If they are still independent)
@meltingtomato

@@bringyourempties They are, in the sense that they're not owned by another big brewery, however they are listed on the Toronto stock Exchange, so they aren't the smallest player in town. They are independent, just like Moosehead is, but given their scale, there's a reason Laker is with domestic beers, and Waterloo with "national craft" (a meaningless term to differentiate vis-a-vis Ontario Craft Brewers) such as Mill Street and Creemore, at least at my LCBO.

Alright, sounds a lot clearer now for my little Quebec head haha. Thanks for the info, cheers!

@@bringyourempties Thinking about it, I'm not sure I can think of a Quebec-based brewery that quite fits that same profile as Waterloo Brewing (large but independent). Les Brasseurs RJ is probably the closest example, but even then, the product mix is different.

so, given all that, would a Gose or any other kettle sour ale be considered a session beer? I feel that the tartness/sourness of such beers acct diametrically against the concept of easy drinking and balanced.
@bringyourempties
@bringyourempties 4 года назад
Agreed on this point, wouldn't qualify Gose or Berliner Weisse as a session style of beer but would qualify them as "sessionable" when well balanced and not overwhelming with the tartness of the beer.

@@bringyourempties so how do you differentiate "session style" from "sessionable" exactly?

Different between session ipa vs a hopped up pale ale ?
@bringyourempties
@bringyourempties 5 лет назад
Really quick: it would be the ABV volume. But again, depends on the recipe. I would say the Pale Ale is supposed to have better mouthfeel and a stronger malt background.

Definitely has mostly to do with the malts used. A pale ale starts out with 2 row pale malt, and will have some sweeter malts as well. A session IPA will likely have pale 2 row, but can also have Pilsner malts or maybe even some oats for body. The goal of a pale ale is to have some balance , and American Pale Ale will have balance with the hoppy edge. While the session ipa should be really light bodied and low abv with a perceived ipa flavor. So to get the Hopped up IPA taste brewers typically do not use Cara malts or other sweet malts in the Session IPA’s. I work for Destihl Brewery, we make a seasonal session IPA called Soundboard.

Thanks for pointing extra info Brandon. The brewer half of H&B is busy at school this morning. Extra brewer help is always appreciated. There’s a lot of intricacies with malts and it’s definitely something I need to learn more about it. Thanks for the great info and cheers!
