I think you did a pretty darn good job on outlining the options out there & I agree with your selections. Unfortunately these aren't in my range of builds. I only build aircraft that saw military service in the preparation for or in active military service during a conflict from 1930 to 1980.
@@MannsModelMoments - maybe he means if there's 4 or 5 more F35's in 1/72 then it's only party objective, or did you use a price limit or some way of choosing those you did include?
This is a really REALLY good video man. I wish we could have this sort of content for more model kits with different variants so people could choose what best fits them, instead of finding bad surprises from time to time.
First rate!! Great that the Airfix starter kit actually rates so well. I would translate that into being most likely to actually be completed, which is great for a starter kit. Terrific comparison. Note: Right channel sound was screwed up.
Excellent video, thanks. I'm glad you call out the presence or absence of a pilot figure; as someone who prefers to build "in flight", I get tired of having to chase down after-market pilots. And while stands are not as important (I tend to make my own), it would be nice if reviews could call out things like open and closed gear and weapons bay doors, too.
Excellent and comprehensive comparison, having built the Italeri F35B, I was disappointed and intended buying the Academy. This video only cements that. My only thoughts are that the Airfix starter set can't really be considered a proper F35B kit, anyone who builds it expecting a result to the same complexity as the others would be disappointed. But I get why you've included it.
The Airfix kit is definitely aimed at a different segment, to be sure, but it's a great base for a good price and could easily be brought "up to standard" if someone wanted that sort of challenge. It certainly compares favourably for what it is, and it's ideal for new modellers where the other kits would probably overwhelm....the Hasegawa kits probably being ok but very expensive for a newcomer. I hope Airfix release the kit as a separate stand-alone model with an additional sprue or two to enhance the engine, include pylons, stores and maybe a better ejection seat. There is precedent for this sort of release with their Sherman Firefly, so let's see!
Fantastic comparison video, this will really be useful to lots of modellers. I'll be steering anyone I hear trying to choose which kit to get, to this video.
The music is panned right whilst the voice is panned left. The voice level needs raising a lot as well. 'Autoplayed' into another RU-vid video and nearly blew my speakers.
I have the Tamiya boxing of the Italeri B.......you get a pilot, Tamiya style instructions and decals with all the RAM tape. Same price here in NZ as Italeri too. A light sanding should take care of the raised detail..........something the 1/48 uber kit has too!
Currently working on Italeri F-35...I notice a pattern that they get you to paint and detail parts that won't be seen IE the engine..just wastes a lot of time and paint/glue in my opinion. A good option however for those who want to display it as if it is having maintanence or something - to be honest I notice this pattern with a few warbirds.. I recently done the Revell Lancaster and that was the same, had me detailing parts that can not be seen when built as "ready to fly"
Thank you for an excellent video. Going into this, I was leaning towards the Italeri/Tamiya F-35b. At video’s end I shifted strongly towards the Academy B model. Saving me a few bucks, perhapsI should donate to this channel? I will watch you other videos and decide.
I just recently found you channel and I really liked it, have you ever considered doing a video on bandai kits, specifically Gundam kits? They are really beginner friendly and Id like to see what someone with you skills can do with one of them
Excellent and informative video, thanks. I think the Airfix as a starter set is great value for money and produces a decent result. One question. I'm pretty sure this aircraft has a brownish tinted canopy, do any of these kits have that?
Thank you! Yes, several of the kits feature tinted canopies, and some have a choice - I'll feature them in the individual reviews as I did with the Airfix Starter (which does not)
I really liked this in depth and frankly quite interesting comparison. I noticed the far left audio until the last 15-20 seconds. Lol. Oh well! My only gripe is hearing decals pronounced as deckles. But I have a feeling that’s a regional thing as I’m not familiar with how most brits pronounce decals. In the US, almost everyone says dee’ cowls. Anyway- I loved the video!
Yeah, you and a couple of others have pointed it out - there was an issue with the audio input file which I've fixed and will upload an audio-fixed version
On the pricing, unfortunately the Airfix have become overpriced where I am in Atlantic Canada due to shipping costs from the UK. Ironically it's cheaper to get stuff from Japan and Korea...
@@MannsModelMoments it really wouldnt look out of place in a maacross line up...for example the fictious YF-21 from macross plus which would later return as the VF-22 from macross 7 are very similar when viewd from certain angles to the real world YF-23
I think it’s a bit unfair to include the ethics kit. In this review. It is basically a starter kit it is not designed to compete with the accuracy. Part count deco sheet of the other kits is designed for a whole different audience. I.e. the novice starter. What’s the build something that’s not a Spitfire
