Have you tried adding flexible resin like Tenacious? I would be curious to see how figures with different amounts of flexible resin compare to Kenner star wars action figures where the arms and legs are a bit rubbery compared to the hard plastic torso

Ya was thinking that myself. Almost feel like certain joints should be printed with a flexible resin and then the joints can be glued into a harder resin.

And yeah that's Sabine! I love her I found PLA a bit brittle when I used it for my X-men prints - of course that could have been the settings or the brand of PLA, I've ordered eSun PLA+ which is supposed to have a little more give. Personally i'd use PLA for D&D figures too and just file them down, we had problems with a resin printed figure snapping before.
@3dPrintedSoup
@3dPrintedSoup 2 года назад
I’m going to try ABS, that may be allot less brittle than PLA. I like the detail you get from resin but yes, it can be snap, especially when you drop it. Thanks for watching:)

Hmm the amount of supports and therefor residue of material is extensive. I wonder about the percentage of material that went in to the supports, on the whole print? Would you please also provide such information. Thank you! - PLA less detailed. - Raisin more detailed. - Both have various after printing needs. And both substances have their specifics as for constructing the figurines and assembly methods. Very interesting video. Thank you for producing and uploading!
@3dPrintedSoup
@3dPrintedSoup 3 месяца назад
The supports are a necessity to print shapes like this unless you split the parts in 2. The actual support structures are very thin so don’t take up allot of material. Plus you print the PLA parts with solid outer shells but 20-25% density in the middle. Cheers for watching

I really want to do something like this, but for obscure Sonic characters that won't get made in the 2.5" little figures they make. That's one of the reasons I'm getting a Printer, in fact. I'd love to put the STLs up for other people to use but I'll mostly be cannibalising other people's figures.

Could this be a design error? Meaning that the pegs need to be suited for either material since the manufacturing process is different maybe it just needs adjustment to tolerances and shapes of the pegs to fit the material properties best, since machines print at different resolutions my guest is the resin will always have a better fit/tolerance. (Check the articulated icons prototype) however it looks like you are using only peg joints, how about swivel, ball, and more complex joints in a more articulated figure?
@3dPrintedSoup
@3dPrintedSoup 3 года назад
Hi chino. This is a 5 points of articulation model in the style of the old SW figures, as such the joints are peg and hole and not ball and socket or more complex types of joint. I definitely agree that adjustments to the design could greatly increase the strength of the pegs, however I wanted to print a popular model using the same settings in PLA and resin to see which I preferred. There are also hundreds of types of resin and pla out there, not to mention ABS and other filerments but I only have so much time in my day ;) thanks for watching and your great comments

@3dPrintedSoup
@3dPrintedSoup 2 года назад
Hello, thanks for your question. Store bought quality action figs are of a very high quality, you would be looking at a very high end/high price industrial machine to achieve a store quality type finish. Personally for good quality prints I use the prusha mk3 as it gives amazing detail and prints a diverse range of materials, not up to say hasbro or mcfarlane toys quality, but as I said, you would need a very expensive printer and that's not what I do on my channel as of yet (maybe one day). Hi, it was printed using the fine settings on the ender 3. As for painting, PLA does not take paint well unless you have base coated it using primer- I use a couple of thin coats of filler primer, I then sanded any lumps or rough bits and then base coated with a coat of white spray paint.
