I have lived in Taiwan for 30 years. The per capita traffic death rate is the highest in Asia. What I have learned to do when riding a motorcycle here is: 1. go a little slower than the others. 2. Stay close to the right side to keep people from passing on your right. 3. Let everybody else have the right of way. Don't let your ego get you hurt. 4. smile and be polite to everybody to avoid physical confrontations. 5. if you have any doubt about the safety of a certain maneuver, just forget it. Better to around the block than to make a U turn in front of a Taiwanese delivery truck. My filipina and I plan to go to the Philippines in a couple of years. She has warned me about potholes and stray dogs.I will keep that in mind.

One of the best interviews I've seen of yours yet. Great guy and liked how he could walk you through the collection and talk about the pros and cons of each bike. Brought a smile to my face when he said he used to own Moto Guzzis. As a fellow Aussie that's been obsessed with V7s and Californias for decades it's always great to come across someone that appreciates such a niche marque with a great history.

I am this guy, I am Australian, I have ridden bikes all my life, he is right Australia is a great country but its boring , especially when your older. I had been livng in the Philippines for years before Covid and now just returned as Mark has done, I used to enjoy big bikes in Australia but now I prefer enduros especially here. I have been telling people for years how great the lifestyle is here, Marks 500 is my type of bike

I own NMax V2 now and I modified it to 230cc (more torque and top speed) and I LOVE IT. I’ve owned Earox in past and it’s not comfortable on long ride and also during pandemic I bought blindly Xmax (it’s a big bike) and it was too high for me as my foot was never flat (my height 176cm) it’s just wasn’t safe imo especially due to my driveway is tiled in slippery tiles and when it rained I almost drop it few times. My personal opinion after test driving all Honda and Yamaha motorcycles that NMax is the best. P.S. I also own a car because there are times when I travel with my girlfriend and her family and we are more than three

Hi Mark, I got a Yamaha 125cc Mio Gravis three days after I arrived in Duma last March. Paid a welder to attach the bucket on the back. It's all I need. My gf and I enjoy scooting around Valencia area where we live. Eventually we will scoot the whole island. Love it here. Soon my household goods will be arriving from USA and I'll get the house all set up including a jungle jam room in the basement for visiting musicians and parties. I'll have you and Jen up sometime in September probably. Thanks for all the great vids.

That's good advice. I must admit, the perils of driving there are a little nerve-wracking for me. I'd hate to get in a smash-up and break both my legs or worse. But I do love riding motorbikes, so I'd probably go for it, but take it easy and try to stay off the roads, as you say, after 6.

Guys and Gals realize you will not be going over 80km per hour in the Philippines. 4 lane concrete highway in the countryside , well, that right lane? Yeah, there is a sleeping dog or a farmer drying rice on it . Those wild two lane roads going up the volcano, yep, just around the bed a car parked in the road. Not to mention the many trikes, big slow trucks, etc. It’s not Australia, not The US. The best feature about a motorcycle here is fast acceleration for passing. That’s about it .

I say, that I have seen more of the Philippines than most Filipinos. As me and my bike get older, I tend to drive a little slower now. When I go on rides with my friends with the big H-D, I definitely have to pedal a little faster to keep up. I like that last bike in the background that you never showed off. More traditional style. The Kawasaki Vulcan 650 is a real rocket. More important than speed here in the Philippines is good safe braking. ABS. Anyway, I enjoyed the video

as a local myself, here's our horn etiquette: 2 beeps means asking to pass through. 1 beep is a reply good to go. 3 beeps to "nope you can't", also a "respectful" warning honk to those who wanna merge the main road and when you're on a trucker's blind spot. long honk is your usual "wtf". some smug raider/sniper riders are quite cocky, they'll race you if they see you on 400cc's just saying. if you're a bike junkie, I suggest you stay in bigger main islands like luzon or mindanao. you can do bigger loops here. btw that bristol there is the real head turner hands. up.

That power posts on the extension road is the result of bureaucracy. The DPWH take cares of the road but the electric posts are either under local power distribution or multi regional like MERALCO. The DPWH road contractors are not allowed to touch those posts and they are happy about it. The power distribution companies will take their time in transferring their posts. Since it will require money for them to move and unless they are forced to do so expect that they’ll be there until the end-of time.

Exactly Mark... you want to run that motor. I ride a 2021 Yamaha MT-09 SP. What a perfect bike Mark! I'm still in the US unfortunately, but I will be visiting in September. Any chance either one or both of you want to meet up? Please let me know. I would like to meet you both..
