I was seriously considering getting dedicated cases for my PO's, but I think simple, inexpensive survival boxes will do. The pocket operator is most at risk not while I'm using it, but when I'm transporting it.
I've bought and used all of these except for the survival box thing. The MPO XS is definitely the best of the bunch. Not only very protective but helps immensely with the ergonomics of the device. Makes it feel much more premium and usable. Another to consider is the DichStudios case. It's a lot like the PavelX case but has been around longer. BTW, for anyone who is looking for an option, at automotive parts stores, you can usually find very small rubber hose caps. They make excellent knob covers for these PO's and you can get a small package of like 20 for a few bucks.
Hell yeah. That MPO XS case is a thing of beauty. The cost on the second hand market is pretty insane mind you. I'll check out DichStudios! I think when I did this video ages ago they didn't ship to the UK, or were out of stock or something, but jmmmMmmMm
This review is invaluable, thanks for taking the time to make this video! I'd actually love to see another review down the line if you happen to spot some new/unique cases, pocket operator cases is like sneakers in the US for me haha
@@StephenMcLeod there are those great wooden cases for the pocket operators. at least they look great, maybe not that great to use. cremacaffe.shop/products/po-kit i hope beatmakers boutique makes some 808 design cases. just ordererd my mpo xs today, they just got restocked :)
PS Don't get your hopes up that the MPO will give you a MPC like response since it's not at all the same mechanism. Yes there are grey pads hich touch nice but they have to reach the tactile button underneath where the MPC has sensor plates. Some times this rubber on the MPO feels a bit off. In the end its just what you get used to ofcourse but hey.
That's an exemplary review ! Thanx. I just wanna say that I bought 2 used POs that came with the original cases and i think they're ok. They stop the things sliding around coz they're grippy. You can see the lights if you look from above. Buttons work fine and feel ok & they have the various original symbols printed on them. Keep up the good work. 🐂💨 💨 💨
Thanks! Yeah. I don't mind the original cases. I picked up a few used POs with them included, and they were good enough - just not the best option for the price!
I found that using any case with hard plastic buttons on POs that have a built-in mic for sampling results in every sample having an annoying loud click in the end of it. Of course you can and should trim it out, but it still uses up a fraction of a second of available sample time. And using only line-in for sampling fixes that also.
I bought four of the MPO-XS cases - the new black ones. I am not gonna scalp them. I got 4 because I am going to reverse-scalp them. AKA give two away. I will keep two for myself. The first one is going to Freebeat.
The pink lipstick into the pink background was slick dude! 🤩 Always love your quick intros, this one especially! That spillerphoto Commodore 64 case is super freaking cool as well, I love that one! (Also, you missed a couple replies to replies from me, one on your intro vid and one on my latest vid lol No biggie at all man, just wanted to mention them but not take up your comment section here with all that! lol) Always looking forward to the next one!! 😃🐀
Ah damn, thanks. I'll take a look. RU-vid seems to lose comments a lot. I don't understand why. They don't appear in my video manager thing. Will check and reply!
Yeah. I think part of the reason for that is that each PO has slightly different functions on the buttons... so that means this case can be used on any of them.
There's one on eBay right now for 200 pounds. Hopefully Beatmakers boutique does a bigger run. If not, maybe some enterprising human is working on their own version of something similar.
Very nice comparison! I recently got the PO-133 and absolutely love it. Dropped it a few times already on my travels with luck being no damage. I have seen all these cases prior but really appreciate your thoughts. I like the BMB case been waiting for a restock (fingers crossed).. the only thing I was worried about with those squishy pads was the response from the trigger buttons. It seems you think its even better then the naked buttons which is reassuring.
They just restocked the BMB case! In black though. It sold out really quickly. Did you manage to grab one? The squishy pads on the BMB are the best out of all the cases imho.
The official case not being partly hard plastic makes it a rather poor case overall. The device still gets squashed when in a bag. They're also kind of expensive for just being rubber.
Actually the BeatMakersBoutique case is right on georgeous, but also the most clumsy case to use, since mits all rubbery it has a terrible user function. I think the playability is the best on the TE mown case and the xpowerdesigns, and ofcourse no sleeve art all lool.
I’m just really upset with the standard for “protection”. If it’s got a nice faceplate and backplate but the sides and internals are basically fully exposed, it’s shit. If it covers the screen, it doesn’t matter, because the contacts inside of the device will corrode over time, which means a lot more to me. Ideally it would be fully enclosed but it’s sadly not an option. I hate to say it but the pro case really offers the most protection.
yeahh! let's buy more plastic products!! i love plastic! and fxck the ocean!!! or anything that live around me! (we are so cool .... look how we manage pleasant coloring visual in our video, we smart creative sensitive people. )
@@StephenMcLeod o sorry i thought for a minute stopping plastic waste was a thing and alacrity (not sure that s a word in english ahah) toward promotors of shiny plastic stuff could be a position. Guess i live on the moon or something. Don't mean to start a fight with you anyway, i admit it was quite an out of the blue statement from me. So, "weird"ok i've been called that before. "Misdirected" i may need your help to figure how
