I will take responsibility and explain the true difference of this cameras and which camera should you choose for uw videos based on your needs and skills: Ace pro has better colors out from the box, basically if you are not into color grading and want some decent footage ready to share, just no questions go for Insta 360 ace pro. Action 4 has a huge benefit for content creators who are more in control of the image colors, as action 4 offers "10bit d-log" this monster is for you, but as this person you already should've made the choice :D also in action 4 you can lock shutter speed manually to follow 180 degree rule, this might be useful for achieving cinematic motion blur. I personally moved from gopro to action4 recently and action 4 d-log videos in DaVnici Resolve just impressed me with the color range i can work with.
Thank you Danny for your comment. Just a few corrections based on my use and experience; - Ace Pro does indeed have better colors out of the box, but also better colors in general, especially at depth. Shooting in LOG isn't going to magically bring out colors that the camera never registered in the first place. On land however, I completely agree that shooting in LOG & 10 bit is highly useful, however underwater there isn't much need for the extra dynamic range to begin with. - You can use manual exposure on both cameras, making it easy to follow the 180 degree shutter rule if needed. However doing so on action cameras isn't always recommended. Action cameras rely on electronic stabilization, which in turn need higher shutter speeds to function optimally. So if you are capturing footage with lots of movements, typical of underwater, letting the shutter run high will probably give you better results. Cheers for highlighting this for me, there's always things I wish I had included in the video after the fact haha.
There's not really that much to it. Leave white balance and exposure on Auto. For picture profile, there's 2 presets for underwater you can experiment with. I often just go with standard tho. The Leica presets are cool for underwater too!
This is a smooth review!! Loads of good information here! Now...I'm in the market for reading tablets. Can you please make some review videos on those?
feel like this review is slightly biased. mostly because the vid provided for the action cam seems much worse compared in other vids and the affiliate link for the 360.
No video is provided, every shot in this video is captured by me. I also explain in the video how I capture it, using the recommended settings for both cameras. The end comparison result is for you to visually judge. You don't have to reach the same conclusions as me. However, if I went back to reshoot it, results would be the same.
@@Sheeeerkhan I always take action cameras as is with no housing when going for snorkeling, as I won't go deeper than the maximum rated depth of 10 / 18 meters when doing so. However this will in theory facilitate your cameras death quicker haha. Constant exposure to salt water does no electronics any good, even if it's rated for it. Going scuba diving I always put them in the housings however!
Haven't had a chance to compare them to the GP12, but neither cameras gave me issues with overheating at all. That's testing them in the tropics in 28-32 degrees celcius temps
thank you for the video. i have a question, for the best underwater setting with an action camera, what kind of tray and dive light do you recommend? do you have a single hand tray (with dive light connector) that you can recommend?
I'll link the action cam tray I have, it's great www.backscatter.com/Backscatter-Wide-Double-Handle-and-Tray As for lights, I'm currently working on a review of the lights I currently use, which pair really well with action cams. Will be out soon 😁
At the time of making this video, there was no red filters available for either model which is a shame. There should be options for red filters out now. If you are taking either camera scuba diving, I would get a red filter. In the shallows doing snorkeling and duck diving, I wouldn't bother. Hope that's helpful :)
