As a complete beginner, I got DaVinci and it was actually very straight forward to understand it took a couple days to get used to it and when I wanted to add a new effect or something I looked up a tutorial and it was very easy to learn I really recommend it especially over something like filmora
@@Idontknow4 holy hell a year sure does fly by. I’ve just been using Hitfilm, but learning the bells and whistles of video editing wasn’t as difficult as I thought, that is until I really start diving deeper into it
I started my channel a couple of months ago and as a N00B editor I went with Davinci Resolve. While it is very overwhelming at first with all its features, it has been a lot of fun learning new techniques everyday to improve on the quality of my videos. Great Video Sam, keep it up :)
I've been using Davinci for a few weeks and it's crazy how much you get in the free version, and how easy it is for the basics and with spending some time learning I have got maybe 3% of the tricks down! XD
I really like Cyberlink Power director because it's damn easy to use and I also really like Vegas. I hated premier but I think I can probably get behind Resolve. Good video.
What are your thoughts on Sony Vegas? Surprised that you didn't cover it in this. It's the program I've always used, but I know it has some limitations.
Vegas is a powerhouse much like premiere and it's really amazing. Personally I've used davinci, Vegas, filmora, final cut pro and premiere up until now
Started using Resolve coming from Sony Vegas and It might have possibly reawakened my desire to make videos! Thank you for taking the time to speak on the matter, great vids as always.
I have Hitfilm Express & DaVinci Resolve installed but I think I might go with DaVinci Resolve ultimately. Seems easier to use, many thanks & keep up the great work.
Kdenlive is another option on Linux. Getting resolve to work in a debian based system is a pita and if you just want to try something out, kdenlive is way easier to get going. If you're wanting to use Linux specifically for resolve, it's way easier to just use centOS. Skip ubuntu/mint/popOS because they use a different way to install programs.
I just need to add this. If your 12 months of "support and updates" end in Hitfilm Pro, they still help you out if you have any issues, so technically that is not true. It happened to me, all of a sudden i could not add any effects without the program crashing. I asked for help in their forums and then i contacted support and they helped me out until everything worked again. So, if you are afraid of losing support from the devs, rest assured. Also, the community in the forums is great!
Ty for this. I do have to say though any of the Mac only options have a $1500 price tag attached. Makes me sad boy but I loved this ty for taking the time and being such a helpful and awesome dude.
Yo Sam, what about premiere elements (no sub) ? or some funnier stuff like pinaccle studio ? I think most people want to use this like photoshop. Just couple of tool that can make 90% of stuff we need ;)
Just came over from the "H" Channel I'm fairly "new" to Video Editing. I don't have much experience with those apps other than Hit Film and Resolve. I agree with your break down across the board. I'm not a fan of "subscription cloud based apps". I don't like where Adobe has gone with their direction. As a musician, first - I'm not really interested in Roland Cloud based VSTs either. Same reason.
It's alright to be biased towards Final Cut Pro I learned the bulk of my editing on FCP and I absolutely loved it. Almost bought a Mac just so I could use it
I use OpenShot Video Editor to create my RU-vid vids and to create clips for both RU-vid and Twitter. I find that it has what I need and there are plenty of tutorials for it. It also has Blender plug in for 3D titles
Odd you made this video. I am happy with FInal Cut Pro on my Mac but I was looking for an app for my PC and I downloaded Davinci Resolve yesterday and love it!
Pretty neat video! I've been using OpenShot for video editing for a while now (there's only one video I published that uses OpenShot, but that video wasn't the only thing I used it for), and DaVinci Resolve 16 seems like it's really worth using. I think I'm gonna try it out.
Thanks Sam, this video is fantastic. Is there any way you can go further in depth on third party plug ins for Final Cut Pro sometime? Or is that more of something I should ask in your discord?
So you aren't a huge fan of Adobe, what do you use in place of Photoshop? I agree the pricing model is a bit absurd, but I feel like the integration of all the programs makes up for that for me personally. But if there are other programs to replace them and such then it may very well be worth it to switch it up!
Picked up Davinci Resolve based on your recommendation, and its been working great for a while, but now it won't open and no amount of fixes have been working, so I am back! Round 2!
As a complete noob it's a struggle to find that Goldilocks starter. iMovie was too restricted. DaVinici and Cyberlink to much. I'm enjoying Hitfilm Express for my first few videos. The free plus what you learn next model is a great model starter experience (obviously way to basic for your God level skills). It's possible, probable even, that once it has taught me how to get to a medium level, I might upgrade to something more. For for working on my first five videos (to be published this month) its taken me from zero to beginner.
Sam I have a question for you. I’ve been studying design and I’m a all-rounded figure but i has this terrible habit of using after effects for almost everything. I edit my videos there and it’s a pain, it takes forever, but to be honest with you when I started using premier pro I found myself completely lost. I desperately need a software to edit videos quicker than AE but I don’t know which one fits my stupid habits since premier pro was such a failure attempt. Thank you
I see a lot of people touting Davinci resolve but I’d only use it if you have the paid for version and even then it’s iffy. The free version doesn’t have GPU acceleration for one but beyond that it has strange data collection policies
I started using Premiere back years ago. When I went back to college, I got a Macbook, and was able to get the student price for FCPX and Motion and thought "well, I will drop Adobe and use this:. I had a hard time finding tutorials on YT for FCPX (yeah, I probably didn't look hard enough), but I managed to use it for all my early game content editing. In January, I decided to give Adobe another go, but the more and more i start "re-learning" my way around Premiere, the more and more I miss all the plugins and just simple tools that FCPX has. So, looks like I am going back to the Macbook and FCPX
hi love the vid i use premiere pro to edit my vid because i got a great deal on all the adobe products i'm a student i got all of them for £16 pounds a month
tbh, if I ever get successful on RU-vid (I hope we all do!) I'll just buy Davinci Resolve studio and end it there. Premiere is so expensive and there's no lifetime option... Not to mention crashes
I used the CS3 suite for years but when they went to the subscription model I dumped Adobe like a hot potato. I really liked Ae but can't see myself paying them month after month. You asked what other software viewers would suggest so here's mine. For the past couple years I have been using VideoPad from NCH Software and find it covers most of what I need to do. Reasonably priced (~$40) and feature rich plus it's available for both iOS and PC. The companion apps like WavePad and DrawPad are great too. I have no affiliation with NCH just a happy user of their software. Don't believe me? Search YT for VideoPad tutorials, you'll see. Lots of bang for the buck I think.
Davinici Resolve would be great if it actually launched :( I've been crashing on boot for hours I've given up and went back to more researching for alternatives
@@NomicEXE nope. I saw another video that it has to be installed on the c drive so maybe that's what it was. I've given up and went with acdsee and if that doesn't quite work, I'm just going to bite the bullet on Adobe
Sam, I gotta say your scale here is confusing. You give one platform 5 stars, and then another 3, FCP 4... I'm with you on the bias, I learned FCP on version 5 (I'm old, you see) and I'm enjoying 10 now.
This was made years ago. I'm probably gonna be remaking this video very soon, considering there's more options out there than I listed. Plus, I can do better now.
There is nothing wrong with subscription based system is there is constant update changing the program and making it better and especially when it's the most popular editing software in the world among youtubers and editing companies, it's the same the same reason Industry standard is avid media which is ($50) and pro tools ($80) both have monthly subscriptions. And all adobe apps works really seamlessly with dynamic link and it has become a standard for editors and especially people working in a group. Yeah $20 bucks a month might seem like high for one software but for $52 you get like 20+ softwares and that's a great value, especially considering anything industry standard like Maya or 3ds which are like $200+ a month and cinema 4d which is like 60+ a month, so it's kinda childish to cry about subscription based system, when especially the computer you are using pushes most of their services and programs to be subscription based like itunes, apple arcade etc.
I hate Adobe because they are nothing less than gangsters who charge way to much for subscription. Over a 10 year period you will be sending that company thousands. However, the second you do work for another company 9/10 you will need to know how to use Premier. I haven't come across a single video company that uses anything else but Premier (Uk based). Dude I know is Jedi on Finalcut having used it since inception right up to 2020. He gets an editing job with a company in London and he must use Premier Pro even though he can do everything better with final Cut. He despises Premier and is looking for a job he can use FCP
