I'm a Yamaha fan. I owned the RN602 and loved it. What I didn't love was the Music Cast software. If that was at the same level as Bluesounds BluOS player then that would indeed be a game changer for Yamaha.
The USB/DAC option is Unreal!! Songs that i had on heavy rotation in my life are unfolded with new details, and extremley Warm and Smooth, This is when i used DSD 256 music files. But playing songs on Tidal unfolds the songs in the same way!! I had a Nad 3020 before, but this machine has so many creative options. I just purchased a used SACD player very cheap, and cant wait to hear it, when the first SACD Disc arrives in the mail. I connected the SACD player with Toslink and Digital RCA, and via the remote control, you can easily switch between the indputs to hear the difference. I still have to get me some analog cables to connect it with. i have had the R-N800A for almost a week now, and im still learning. Next is a new turntable ;) Get one before they are sold out, this machine is killing it's competitors!!
Yamaha...always awesome. I bought an A-S 501 from Just Audio a few years back which is doing wonderful things for my analog audio environment. I am a long-time Yamaha fan. My son operates a CR-1020 that I purchased in the late 70s, & refurbished a few years back. I am currently refurbishing a CR-1000 to add to my analog audio gear. My main speakers are my 1970s purchased JBL L110s which I bought with the CR-1020 ...still amazing beyond belief. My digital/AVS receiver is also Yamaha...replacing old regularly failing Denon's & Onkyo's...hdmi failures, sadly.
If you want an indication to how good Yamaha is, I’m still running a CA700 from the 1970’s! Driving a couple of KEF concertos, it still performs brilliantly.
I was a sales representative for Yamaha hi-fi in the mid 1970s. I still have the CR 2020 receiver and NS1000M speakers from that period and they both work perfectly. I'm a big fan of Yamaha products,
@@LennyFlorentinehello i have an Onkyo tx-7000 and the power button won't stay depressed which allows the unit to be powered on i can hold it and it will stay on but as soon as i let it go it goes off. How can i remedy this problem do you guys sell the part and how to intructions ? I know how to take the cover off lol i see the button but dont see how to remove it. Thanks for your help.
Worked at a Yamaha dealer in the mid/late 70's. We loved putting the Yamaha receivers up against any of the other brands being sold at the time. They sold themselves. They were a bit more $ than the competition but that really didn't become much of a problem after the comparisons were over.
Timeless look! I bought a Yamaha amp in 1996 with CerwinVega! VS120 speakers and it was a great combo. At low volumes the loudness control was magical. I wish more amps had a loudness type option
I’ve been using various Yamaha receivers for years. I’ve grown accustomed to their control environment so much that I find competing items more difficult to get comfortable with, I guess this is just human nature. I’m sort of an old/new school guy so I still like real speakers, not the in wall or sound bar stuff. Right now my main unit is an RX-A2a which I really enjoy. I have an RX-A1040 in another location and my garage work area where I do hobbies uses a little RX-V485. They all do well. They all drive speakers I made. The to RX-A’s drive systems made of MTM mains with MT rear and separate powered subs I built. I only use 5 channels with subs, I don’t feel like devoting the space for 7 channels and such. The Yamahas sound great, I listen to classic rock, Brazilian, some folk and jazz and other genres.. love my Yamahas
Was looking for an inexpensive, but decent integrated amp for my wife's system (keeps her away from mine!). Bought the A-S501 Yamaha and she loves its simple operation and its pretty good sounding for the money.
ive had yamaha,s since the early 70's. i still have alot of vintage gear. i just love the yamaha A-S1100 integrated amp, i picked up about 6 years ago. it sounds divine! if you get a chance , pop the hood on this one. you wont be disapointed. by the way. great video
My Yamaha AX-495 is a bit cheaper model but sounds great and provides good power I got it somewhere cheap from a farmers flea market I only cleaned it now I own it more than seven years it still works great
I have a few pieces of Yamaha Hifi, A-S500 and A-S701 amplifiers, CD-S300, CD-N301 cd players and two T-D500 tuners and have stuck to stereo since my RX-V640RDS AV receiver became faulty after 17 years service. One amplifier and one tuner have had repairs under warranty but otherwise they have also been very reliable. I will be keeping all of my current Yamaha hifi gear as I find they all function very well, with to my ears, a balanced if ever so slightly dry sound compared to some of my other equipment. There are two areas that concern me though. Firstly, my current amplifiers have two fixed tape outputs but I notice that as you go higher up the new range, these fixed line outputs seem to be disappearing making their integration into my setups more difficult, feeding Tascam and Sony cd recorders and Nakamichi and Aiwa cassette decks, whilst also linking into another room where the volume is controlled separately in the other room which obviously can’t be done with only a pre out on the amplifier. Secondly, although Yamaha have their MusicCast system, they don’t quite seem to keep up to date with the requirements of third parties resulting in (not just Yamaha but some other manufacturers) falling out with vTuner meaning I now have to pay vTuner directly to get internet radio on my CD-N301 and now on even these new receivers Yamaha are due to give out a firmware update just so you can get BBC Sounds internet radio (I accept this is only really of interest to UK residents or overseas listeners who want the BBC on internet radio) but it seems a little worrying that known issues with changes to streaming methods weren’t incorporated at launch date. I realise that the UK isn’t the biggest market for Yamaha but they have served this market for many years. I also have two Yamaha guitars and a Yamaha THR guitar amp so you can’t say I don’t rate their stuff highly. Great video by the way, it’s good to see a group of single manufacturer products side by side so we can see what we’re getting for our money in different price categories.
Love yamaha…. For over 20 years i have on one surround receiver - the Yamaha rx-V3000Rds. This brand just delivers quality. Next is gonna be the 1000 model on review here. I dont Think there is anything outthere that Can beat it👌
If your going to show us under the hood. I want to see the output device arrangement on the heat sink and the location of the bias diodes in relation to the outputs. Yamaha has had a problem with crossover distortion because of bias in the past.
Impedance is between 4 to 8 ohm ,if you are using only a pair of speakers if you use two pairs of speakers impedance is 8 to 16 ohm .Watch specs from the amplifier manual .
GREAT VIDEO!!! What would you recommend for my setup: I only have two front speakers, 685 S2 and an AS608 subwoofer. Those speakers seem to like power. I like to see the USB files on the TV screen...thanks!)
I wish they would make the USB port a standard feature on ALL their home receivers and integrated amps , I have so much music on flash drives it's a deal breaker for me from this point on.
I'm not a Yamaha fan, but I am Yamaha-friendly. That company has maintained a well-deserved respect and remained true to its principles better than most of the other popular marques.
Do you have this Yamaha yet? If yes please try connected some external DAC to USB port. I want to check that this port will be works with other USB device like DAC or Raspberry Pi 4 device. Thank you
I have the R-N803D and think it is very good. I like to opgade to the R-N2000A, it is a big jump up i price. So my question is, is it that much better in power and sound performance? My speaker's is 87db. I know it is much better in building quality and parts.
@@LennyFlorentine i know, superb quality. But It is rated at 90w and power consumption 250w witch is kinda low. How does it feel playing on bigger speakers in det JBL l100 range? My rn803d I rated the same, actually it has more output power. I'm playing on Technics sb10 It be a no brainer if it had a little more power, and to sub outputs.
It's interesting to note that a motorcycle company branched out decades ago and started designing and building pro audio equipment as well as home stereo/surround/theatre audio equipment!, have put a lot of their speakers through the paces !, great quality, and thanks for your videos 😊
@hmmmmmm69 I think that the tuning forks symbolized the perfect tuning of the company, I could be wrong, but I do remember seeing Yamaha motorcycles in a showroom as a kid when my dad was looking for a motorcycle. I think Yamaha then devirsefied into audio equipment in the late 70's, early 80's
Yeah they made pianos then one day with left over piano parts they made a motorcycle but the olden kind wear you had to mix the gas and oil yerself but thet didnt to good so they just make stereos now
These integrated types usually send me packing towards an AVR for more included power, even if I am only using two channels of it. Just not a fan of sub-100 watt amps at these price points, VU meters be damned. Love Yamaha products, just have found ways to get more power with all the features I could possibly need for the future and, enough power to handle just about anything I would want to upgrade to.
Hi, recently bought used Dynaudio Focus 340 speakers for my home, currently paired with Yamaha RN803D. Speakers are great but still needs more power, can someone recommend better receiver. I am missing Chromcast feature on Yamaha....like Naim has. Thx
hi guys, looking for your opinion. i have a Yamaha AS-801, currently paired with LS-50's and KEF 8"cube sub. how would the Linton's perform with this Amp compared to the KEFS. i also have a set of PSB 40 mk2's that i purchased back in the 90's. thoughts. also enjoy your vids
You had me until you started recommending expensive audio jewelry type cabling. Just because you get a “2000” doesn’t mean you need to pay more for cabling that adds nothing except a black hole in your audio budget. Good quality, solidly built cabling doesn’t need to be expensive. After all, you hook it up once, then it disappears behind your audio rack.
I like Yamaha kept their trademark square buttons and rectangle knobs for their modern receivers. They can blend in with their classic audio equipment from the 70's.
Im a Yamaha girl myself. I own 3 receivers from the 90s, an 80s Amp, an 1990 dual tape deck and a late 90s 5 disc changer. I think Yamaha is one of the more quality gear out there. I love that they incorporated the meters. I love meters. Also those Mission speakers are mint.
It’s because they’re the largest music company in the World…they’re the 800lb. Gorilla.. they just bought Ampeg bass amps and Line 6 digital guitars and amps
I have owned a Yamaha RX-V661 AVR for 17 years and it is performing just like if it was brand new. A few days ago I opened it and blew it out for the very first time. I trust the Yamaha brand 100%
I've been buying only Yamaha since 1992 but my brother got me into the brand back in 1983 with his R-70. They were always some of the most reliable and best sounding audio. In these laters years they also seem to have some of the best looking equipment in the vintage appearance. As for speakers, everything I hook up to them sounds predictably great but my speaker preferences are quite expansive. In my vast experience, Infinity speakers are usually their best pairing.
@@alphacapoI guess in a way it kinda does but not where it’s noticeable to the sound, it overall lowers the sound when you turn up the loudness and then if you turn it up it makes it sound more impactful at low volumes.
@Brett1334 I have an A s501 coming and I haven't really seen anyone demo the variable loudness. People) are saying use it as Main volume control but that's not right. I would think u use it to fine tune the volume and cut brightness all in one. But only for lower volume listening Is this correct?
@@alphacapoI think it all depends how much you change the volume of your music, I pretty much change it once and then leave it, it’s only meant to assist ideally for low level listening but I don’t think it matters, even when I turn it up most of the time I still leave the loudness dial turned on most of the time because it really adds an ‘oomph’ to the bass and in my room my speakers always need a bit of a boost.
@Brett1334 ok ...to me it takes the music and makes it less in your face if u use it sparingly loudness between 10 and 11 o'clock. Turn it up loud like say 9:30 or 10 o'clock volume on direct mode then dial back the loudness to 10 o'clock or so and switch between direct mode and tone controls and it kinda smooths out certain recordings making the mids less in th face. Also dial back the bass a bit to balance the sound back outIf your having conversation with people and want to be able to hear eachother clearly. Use this setting and the music will still sound great. It takes the bark out of the music. direct mode when u want music in your face and mute for I'm in a phone call or something important.
I've been using the Yamaha RX-Z9 since 2007, still works and sounds great. It's been paired up with Definitive technology speakers. I recently purchased a RX-A8A and haven't yet set it up yet, but looking forward to hearing it once I do. Been a fan of Yamaha since 1994.
Is the r-n800 going to put out the same power as the a-s801 integrated amplifier? They'RE both rated at 100wpc. I know sometimes receivers power isn't the same as integrated power at same wattage specs
Hey Lenny. What would you advise me, RN-2000 or AS-1200 with a separate streamer? I'm not sure how long Yamaha will update the software for the inbuilt streamer, but I'm worried that eventually it might become an issue. It's mostly for music, but movies and series as well. HDMI arc is certainly handy, especially since I'm minimalist. I know those two receivers are for different purposes, but what's your take? Cheers. Saxe
Still very happy with my trusty Yamaha R8 receiver (85 watts per channel) purchased in June 1985. It drives my beloved pair of Altec Voice of the Theatre speakers purchased in August 1975. Hope these components last me for the rest of my life.
Thanks for the video. What amp would advise to pair up with a pair of Heresy 4 ? Being a Yamaha fan, I currently have an older YamahaS701, running a 2.1 setup with a Yamaha SW1000 sub & polk audio spkrs. However I was advised the Heresy is a brighter speakers ie horn mids & do need a warmer and better amp to run it. They have suggested suggested to pair them with a warmer amp ie Arcam25, Hegel H95. What are your thoughts? I do like the Yamaha S2200 or the above mentioned N2000. will these suffice or do i looks at other. I would greatly appreciate your response. cheers
I bought the r-n2000a. It's a bargain. Toroidal transformer, huge capacitors from high end manufacturers and a reputable 192khz streamer. I don't need much more than that! I think the r-n1000a will become the best bang for your buck solution in hifi. It's all you need to get the best from 90% of speakers. I got ns3000 speakers which are an unsung hero of the Yamaha range. 90% of the ns5000 with less volume and surprising base clarity. I'm yet to hear better speakers than the ns5000 - incuding $100k+ speakers. Yamaha takes natural sound very seriously! Every time I try and explain this setup, natural sounding is the best way I can explain it! I haven't heard the new speakers, but they have much the same tech as the 5000 and 3000. I disgust they sound great. Yamaha trickled down tech from thier high end amps to the new amps, the r-n2000a had much the same tech as the AS1000 range. I suspect they've done the same with the new speakers.
Yamaha, bought my first reciever in 1977 using my savings from cutting lawns and fixing bikes. Still have my Yamaha turntable from 1978. Love those VU meters!!
thank you for the great video...I own Yamaha R-N303...Would you think it's worth to upgrade to Yamaha R-N600A or Yamaha R-N800A? Not that I don't like R-N303,but what is your opinion?
Yamaha RN 602 is the best! Entey level but never the sound and feel. You are not missing out. Im really glad that Yamaha gave me the four way conbectivity to enjoy music. I use CD, Vinyl, Bluetooth, Wi-FI (music cast playback). My music playback is covered. Looks clean because because its just one box. (John Darko would approve) Looks are important. Pair them with Yamaha NS 1000 M. You will understand the whole Yamaha philosophy behind their sound signature. Mid range forward, life like vocals, and just the right amount of bass that you can control. Because Yamaha has tone controls! They understand that not all rooms are the same (duh) and some recordings are just bad.
I own an rn 803 paired with some kef q350s and my problem is the amp does no keep a bluetooth connection. It really pisses me off when I want to play quick music. I've sold yamaha products for over 6 years. I went with the rn i03 for the musicast tidal connection. The bluetooth does not work tho. Be warned.
I’m definitely a Yamaha fan, I have 9 Yamaha receivers/amps dating from the 70s to now, but I also love the sound and look of my Leak 230 that I proudly purchased from Just Audio ! 😉
Great round up. Are the dials and switches metal on on these? I assume the 2000 is but the 1000, and 800? Also, it would be great to have a dedicated video on the room correction feature; like where it makes the most sense because I get the impression with room correction its going to be highly dependent on the room as to how much its going to benefit you.
Anyone know the tuning fork logo is different between their music products and their powersports logo. Look at my avatar as the motorsports/powersports logo. The forks extend to the outer circle.
I still use my Yamaha A 500 Amplifier bought in 1984. Now it is in combination with my 25 years old Mackie mixer and 25 year Tannoy studio speakers. The amplifier has been on 24/7 except when I have moved.
Hey this Spencer’s customer from Tennessee, tell that dirtbag I listen to the A-s1200. I have audio engine DAC jbl 100s it’s amazing. I have monster sansui from 1976 with E715s, the Yamaha is very close to it
That’s very difficult to answer, I use the turntable with the sansui it runs 715 bass and low monster. The AS 1200 and jbl don’t have that mushy sweet low of old set up, but if you been listening to anything else, the bass and purity of as 1200 will blow you away put tears in your eyes
@@scottycrystalpugh8299 I finally bought a 1200. Plugged the headphones in. Played 3 tracks that had NO bass on my headphone amp: “Mars, The Bringer of War”, “Norwegian Wood” and “Honky Tonk Woman”. THERE BE BASS!!! Very pleased. I did not realize how BIG it was out the back. Had to buy a whole new stereo rack.
It's incredible how difficult it is to find specifications for these things, even on the Yamaha website those data are buried. And then when you find the data they are presented inconsistently.

You or someone should do a video featuring some the other receivers. There were so many other brands out there and all i see on most videos are Pioneer, Marantz and Sansui. No one shows any love to McIntosh, Tandberg. Luxman, Dokorder, Concord, Nakamichi or Carver receivers. Back in the 70's some that were in the military would go to the PX and pick up a off brand receiver and have it shipped home or bring it home when they were on leave. Remember Vector Research? Nikko, or Soundcraftmen. I'd love to see more videos with these other brands from history.
