I’ve got a gold U2 that I bought for 350 bucks a couple years ago. One of my go to guitars for playing at home. I tune it down a half step, and use it for SRV/Hendrix and it sounds great! Also works really well for the more experimental psychedelic side of things.
I think the quirky Danectro sound works very well for six string electric, but every demo I’ve ever heard of their old longhorn bass (if that’s the one he uses) sounds utterly horrible to me. Maybe he does a bunch of post production to make his sound good or something, but generally I think they sound way too thin and gutless as basses, like somebody playing bass lines on a banjo.
@@darwinsaye that's entirely fair enough. I do like the sound of the bass he uses (very unique), but in all fairness I've always preferred the sound generated from either Strat Basses (Jazz & Precision) and the Musicman Stingray
They’ll always be my first pedal brand to me. The food series plastic pedals - I remember I got the milkshake chorus, grilled cheese distortion and the fish and chips eq pedals out of the Sutton music clearance bin around the turn of the century for about £10 each.
When I found out that Jimmy Page used a Danelctro on Kashmir, I had to have one. I found a local guitar shop that had only 1 left... they said " Its a black one, we are sorry it's the only one we have" well I said "that's the one I wanted" and Oh yeah just like Jimmy Page had. Danelectro's are very different and I love them
Yeah...Jam it, Dagan..those lipstick pickups...nice! Throw a Nichols "66" fuzz/drive pedal into the front end of Your amp, and they blossom, big-time. The 59 Devine. The next guitar to try is The Triple Devine
I'm currently on the hunt for my own Danelectro and am torn between the '57 and the Purple Sparkle Blackout '59. This video came at the perfect time, but it didn't help at all :) A Purple Sparkle Blackout but in a single-cut style '57 would be perfect. Add in the "wave" F-hole and double the "thin" strings for 9-string and it would be dream come true. Great playing as always
Great guitars for that surf sryle music of the 60s and for things like Tommy Roe covers where you need that kind of twangy pop sound. Danelectro, Silvertone, and a few others were a way to get started with nearly no budget and often came with a solid state amplifier as a package deal much like a Fender Starter pack today. You could oreder them from places like Sears and Montgomery Ward. I have played some vintage Dan and Silvertone guitars and some of the 60s Harmony electrics that by today's standards would be considered chunky clunky toys but they have an addictive uniqueness to them that strats, teles, and LPs are not going to replicate. Hey Paul Stanley has signature Silvertone model guitars so you can’t say that professionals turn their noses up at such companies. Danelectro was instrumental in amplification and the creation of effects pedals so if you dig early Zeppelin albums just know that Jimmy Page was rocking Danelectro pedals as well as guitars to create some of the iconic songs over the first two albums. I for one am glad to see them resurrected both in the instrument and pedal segment. Oh and if you can find an early 50s Epiphone amplifier for sale grab it up because it was made by the original Danelectro company and they were coveted by traveling blues and jazz players back in the day.
These are beautiful especially the purple! I had a couple of these in the mid 90s the setups were kinda crappie but I heard they're much better now! They sound really good!
