The Lightspeed has been on my board for years and I don't think it'll ever come off. I remember the first chord I hit when I played it for the first time. All three knobs on 1 ó clock. When I heard that sound for the first time my jaw dropped and I just stared at my amp in awe. IN AWE!!! This pedal combined with an old Xotic RC Booster into a good amp set on the edge of break up..., that's it for me. ❤️
RC booster will never leave my board. I had to make a decision tonight to remove either lightspeed or RC booster. I also have a southland that is staying on. Pulled the lightspeed hoping I can cover some of that ground with southland and volume knob on Guit. Probably need a larger board.
Yes, it is that good... the Lightspeed and the Hudson Broadcast are my favorites from all the bunch I had over the years. Still have to try the Browne pedals...
One of my favourites. I have one on my studio recording board and another on my smaller gigging board... and yes - it SHINES when you put other drives in front of it... Welcome to the obsession 🤘
Great demo on the Lightspeed. Subscribed and liked! Awesome pedal that I use in so many different ways and it’s just perfection! It works so well with other pedals, amps…and amp pedals! Keeps that pure tone and just adds something special that makes it even better.
Here's the thing I realized about the lightspeed...at home it is a fine sounding pedal as are many others. But on stage it works so incredibly well that it has lasted the longest on my board, it seems to combine so well with every single other pedal I stack it with and on its own is a perfect low gain stage.
I run Hudson Broadcast into Lightspeed into Browne Protein. Soooo many good stacking options - the Lightspeed is always on with gain set at 10 o’clock.
I just got one and the verdict is still out. It’s very colored - hardly what I’d call transparent. The tone control is a more like high mid and pushing a Marshall voiced amp can get a little harsh. It loves most of my guitars but gets a little muddy with my semi (a 335). It is indeed very dynamic. Giving it a couple of days - getting fresh ears on it tomorrow.
Wow! This pedal would be a nice companion to my Dude pedal. This has the other end of the spectrum of tone for the organic ,punchy, yet clear as day OD that the Dude offers.
I still like my Timmy more but I do have a light speed as well. The light speed sounded great to me with a vox amp. Won’t ever sell it. But the Timmy is on my board currently as my stacking tool and I think the Timmy works with my fender amps I play more frequently a bit better
I completely agree with your experience. My Timmy kills with my Fender 79Deluxe, old Champ and ‘63 Vibroverb RI. The Lightspeed does nothing for me on Fender amps but kills on the Vox side of my 3rd power British Dream and is a great harmonic pushing “spice” pedal with a drive or Xotic Super Sweet in front on the Plexi side. It’s a great pedal that adds to amps with a mid range forward sound but it’s never a pedal that you stomp on for a solo by it’s self. I look at it more like a seasoning. That’s what makes it great with the right amp. Don’t know another pedal like it. Greer stuff is so great because they just go for a musical sound first instead of marketing and copycat stuff like Wampler and JHS. Check out an old Texas Voodoo if you can find one. A very unpretentious musical Fuzz.
Freq… in English is pronounced like freak. For the word frequency. Excellent video, I also do not have a lightspeed… but I definitely see one in my future. Cheers mate hope you’re well.
Good demo, this is how it sounds, I have one. I'm a little torn about it, I like the sound, but it tends to fight a bit with vocals in a mix due to the upper mids bump. Not a producer fave I would think. I like anything sus 2 in chords, probably reflects what I just wrote haha..
Take a Timmy v.2 pedal. Pull out the 50k bass knob pot and hard wire that spot with a 15k cap. Change another cap and you have an instant Lightseed. But before you are done paint some of the parts black and then pour hot glue all over the board to hide much of the circuit. This way no one will think you are a rip artist instead of a pedal designer. WTF!!!! The name of the pedal is appropriate. It is how long it took Greer to design the pedal.
No doubt the Timmy is also derived from something else. How many ground-breaking unique overdrive designs can there be? They’re pretty much all derived from something that came before.
I had the Lightspeed and the Carbon from Browne, just to check which one would suit me more. They both sound pretty good, but I went with the Carbon, since it can be brighter. Playing a Milkman and a Starcaster can sound dark, so the opportunity to add more highs when needed made the decision. If I remeber correctly, the Lighspeed has more gain...but they are both fantastic!!!
I love my Lightspeed. I tried the Southland, and although it has more gain, I didn't love the low end on it when stacked with other drives, so I sold it. I recently got an EQD Plumes and it pairs very well with the Lightspeed or my other drive pedals. Highly recommend the Plumes.
this is becoming the pedal of nashville.... this should be on every pedal board... by itself or to stack.... this is one of the best organic overdrives ever made....hands down
Anette Benning said in The Grifters.."I've kissed a lot of frogs and...." When I played this I knew what she meant. this is simply a great pedal. At any price. the only one I've played that is this good might be the Origin Magma57, which is something a player should check out.
Helpful demo, I have been curious about the Lightspeed for a while. Now I know not to buy it. Sounds flubby and lackluster. But great playing as always. Love the channel.
the"big deal" pour moi is the clipping, It has the best "clean amp on the edge of breakup" tone i have ever heard . The tone stack is rather shite, i find it a bit too dark for my taste, but it stays on my board because of the dirt- i just tap the high end on my 10 band eq a few degrees to compensate.
really curious what your recording setup is, im guessing you use IRs (hence the headphones), would love to know what kind etc, or maybe its something else all together
Lightspeed is flat with a tiny 2K bump, the BF is scoped in EQ, hence your feelings. I liked the Lightspeed into my Twin as it didn’t add mids, it was just a low gain version of whatever amp it’s in.
@@electricj5 I‘m not sure about the flat eq of the Lightspeed. I think it’s got a slight scoop and a tiny hump on higher mids (2k sounds about right). I could do a pretty good emulation of the Lightspeed with my Timmy though. So there’s no reason to have both. The Timmy is more versatile and cheaper, too…
What is the big deal most boring pedal ever.its a very over priced Special Cranker.which sounds better. I have a box by recovery fx.the electric. Both are better choices
